Since I was grounded and not allowed for storytelling, I sulked and was gloomy, didn't talk to my mom or ate breakfast nor lunch with her, as childish as that may sound, I can still pretty much remember that she slapped me. My mom, on the other hand, acted like nothing happened and was busy preparing for the Silver Bells Festival, it involves dancing and eating and drinking and exchanging bells, it's gonna take place at the town's square later this 6:00 pm and obviously, I'm not allowed to go.

The only thing that cheered me up is the prospect of Jack's company but he was taking too long, why is it that when you expect someone that's the time they choose to take their time? The boredom resulted to me filling my sketchpad with, well you know, sketches.

I got thinking, Pitch wasn't a dream. I'm not stupid to not know that he wants something from me and I'm definitely not stupid that he'll stop convincing me either by hook or by crook. And me dissolving his nightmares into real darkness? Pshhhhh! Whatever, let's just stick to my talent as story teller, 'kay?

Shifting my thoughts to something else, I thought about what would happened between me and Jack, and the more time I got thinking, the more uncertain and nervous I felt. Trying to think rationally: Jack is a 300 year old anti-social winter spirit and a Guardian of Childhood and I'm a teenage girl who happens to chance upon meeting him either by fate or mistake, I wouldn't know.

"Alice!" a girl's voice shouted.

I looked down the window, seeing Katie, waving at me, beckoning me to come outside. Just then my mom went out of the house, talking to Katie no doubt about me being grounded. She slumped as she turned around and I was sad.

An hour later, our doorbell rang and I was shocked that my mom called me, even more so to see who it was.

Jake.

He was wearing a gray sweater with a black, white and black checkered scarf around his neck and he wore black jeans, and his outfit complimented his dark eyes. He was smiling politely at my mom, and my mom returned the smile.

"Hello Alice" Jake nodded at me

"Hi" I waved my hand

Then he turned to my mom "So I asked her to be my partner for the Silver Bells Festival tonight and I didn't know that she was grounded."

I didn't know why Jake was telling mom about his girl problems unless…

"Did he really ask you Alice?" My mom asked me quizzically and suspiciously.

Jake looked at me as if trying to send me a mental message in which he failed.

"No" I answered.

A few dead beats of silence.

"uhhmm, I'm not-"

"She's coming" My mother cut me off.

"What?" I asked shocked.

"I'll be picking her up at 5:45" he said.

"Wait!" my voice close to shouting.

"She'll be ready by then and I'll make sure of it." My mom chirped.

"Wow, it feels so good to be ignored." I sarcastically said.

They both shot me a look then mom cleared her throat and said,

"I'll be inside." She went inside not bothering to close the door.

I crossed my arms "What are you doing here?"

"Katie told me you were grounded, in fact she pleaded me to ask you to the festival for the storytelling." He explained

"Ohhh, so that was your way of asking?"

He shrugged "You're still going right?"

"I am going, but not with you" my voice hardened.

"What? I just got you permission so you won't have to sneak out anymore, what's the big deal?"

"You didn't ask my permission."

He rolled his eyes. "Not like you have a choice, you're going with me or you're going with me."

"Hey North!" I greeted while dodging an army of yetis carrying toys from one place to another.

North was having rounds in his workshop, checking the numbers of certain toys and handing out a list. He turned around to look at me.

"Jack!" his voice boomed "What a surprise! Quick! Distract me!"

"Uhh?" I raised both my eyebrows at him

"Hahahaha!" North laughed "Now that was a good distraction, anyway when can you bring Alice over?"

"Why?" I asked curiously.

"For company of course! She'd make better company than the elves and yetis!" his Russian accent laid on thick.

"Sure, speaking of Alice-" I stopped myself mid-sentence, carefully choosing my words "she asked me about romantic things, do you know things like that?"

North's both eyebrows shot up. "Red is always good because it's the color of love, it's also a color of war and violence but it depends on how people look at it, personally it's love that's why I wear it all the time! And also a good cookie and milk wouldn't hurt, I always love a good cookie and milk when I deliver gifts for Christmas, lastly classical music are just magnificent and magical ! "

"Classical music?" I look at North incredulously.

"They are romantic things." North scratched his beard.

"But they're-" I stopped myself just in time then continued "unpopular these days."

"But they are beautiful" He exclaimed, his eyes widening urging me to agree.

After my mom enduring fifty of my tantrums, I am the least proud to say that she still had able to make me wear a dress. It was an above the knee, tweed sleeveless (much to my protest) gray dress. I swear my mom wants me to freeze to death (too bad I kind of got used to the cold). She even had the gall to get excited about me going with Jake and calling it a date. Psshhhhh as if [Author's note: in Filipino expression when you say as if, it equates to no way, it usually used when insulting someone for example, as if she'd look great in that dress] I'd want to.

"Have fun kids!" She waved "I'll be coming afterwards but I'll be giving you enough time to spend time together alone."

In which Jake only smirked at me after my mom went inside "Still not going with me?"

I ignored him.

A car was in front of me and unfortunately if you're a car lover, well I'm not. So if you're asking me to describe it, it's shiny, black and it looks like a car. There.

Jake opened the car door, turning the other way, smirking.

"Unbelievable!"

I bet he's thinking that I'd be impressed. I walked away and when he saw me walking away he chased me,

"Hey, where are you going?"

"Ask the map" I answered.

"Huh?" he was confused.

"Go and watch Dora the Explorer and then you'll know who the map is and then you'll know where I'm going!"

"Wait, why won't you ride in my car?"

"Unbelievable, Jake! The town's square is only two blocks away!" I was irritated.

"I don't get you, most girls would be impressed." He said

I stopped walking and looked at him, angry; he really thought I'm one of those stupid material girls? Estupido! God, help me put up with this guy.

"Seriously, like I care whether most girls would be impressed and if you really think that most girls would be, then you should get out more! You know I would be impressed if that car was really yours, if that was really from your own hard work but I guess that it was from you parent's money right? So here let me burst your own bubble, the achievements and successes of your PARENTS DOESN'T define your OWN."

"Says the one who doesn't get out more, if you had gotten out more you'd know and act impressed with me." I glared at him "Come on, let's ride, you're wearing heels you'd get tired. I know that girls often lecture me so that I'd be impressed with them but really, you're going over the top."

"UGHH!" I growled, shouted, my irritation

I threw both my silver heels at him, the first one hitting his thigh and the second one hitting his stomach.

Barefeet, I ran my way to the festival.

I flew thinking and considering the things North told me while sending blizzards [Author's Note: One for you Cheshire cat ;) with red sprinkles on the top] and stopping for some snow ball fights. Walking down the pavement of some town, I passed by a shop selling televisions, I stopped and looked at the display, there was a guy strumming a guitar while singing.

A bunch of teenage girls passed through me and I was still uncomfortable of that feeling, that feeling being engulfed by a strong wave of loneliness and hollowness gripping me.

I heard them talking, "… a guy who can play guitar and sing like that? It's perfect and romantic! –sighs- I wish a guy would serenade me like that."

That's it !

THE END…..
