"Thankfully leaving is much easier than getting here…this sanctum is technically the core of our collective being" She placed a small kiss on Kagome's forehead and within moments Kagome was opening her eyes.
When Kagome came out of her trance the moon was high in the sky and she was greeted by a sleeping Rin and Shippo. She was about to speak when she saw Sesshomaru sitting against a tree a few feet away she motioned to the kids and he picked up Shippo while she picked up Rin. Her legs faltered for a moment but she quickly regained her balance. She looked to Sesshomaru, her words coming out in a whisper. "I'd like them to sleep with me tonight so don't take Shippo to his bed." She shifted Rin in her arms to get a better hold on her and began walking, Sesshomaru a step in front of her. "How long was I…gone?"
"About eight candle marks, the pups were worried." She sensed the question he didn't want to ask and answered it. "I was in my inner sanctum…my core. Requesting Midoriko's knowledge on something." He gave a barely perceptible nod and the rest of their walk was spent in silence. After reaching the room Sesshomaru deposited Shippo and withdrew to his quarters. Kagome laid Rin down gently and climbed into the bed, not bothering to change. She slipped between them and they both curled into her sides, she had an arm wrapped protectively around each of them. She didn't sleep, she just spent the last few hours till sunrise holding her children.
Kagome spent the next day in a perpetual whirlwind, she started Rin's training, the little girl proving surprisingly adept with tonfas, her own training, and any down time she had was spent in the kitchens or hanging around with the staff in general. That was actually where Jaken found her one day. In the kitchens teaching some of the cooks a few recipes her mother had showed her and putting together a menu for Shippo and Rin's upcoming birthday. The head chef Yuki was listening to Kagome explain how to make ice cream when Jaken interrupted. "Kagome-Sama Lord Sesshomaru requires your presence in his office." Kagome gave him an annoyed look before sighing.
"Yuki-san do you think you can manage teaching the rest of the staff? Oh and don't forget I'll need some volunteers to go berry picking with the children and I."
"Lady Kagome I was working here before you were a twinkle in your father's eyes, I can manage." Kagome smiled and walked out, Jaken struggling to keep up with her.
Jaken stood outside of the office impatiently while Kagome took her sweet time walking down the hallway, Jaken couldn't quite decide who he was scared more of…Kagome or Sesshomaru. His inner struggle seemed to resolve itself as he squawked for her to hurry up. Kagome shot Jaken a glare but quickened her pace anyways, Jaken taking a step back for every step she took forward and the moment she reached the door he was gone. "Cowardly toad." She stood in front of the door and flared her aura waiting only a moment for his response before entering. "You called Sesshomaru."
Inside Sesshomaru's office sat three Youkai she didn't know…which to her was amazing because she thought she knew every Youkai in the palace. "Miko…it has come to my attention that you haven't taken the final exam to become a healer." Kagome stared down the three Youkai in the room. Her gaze baring down on them until they refused to look at her. "Who are these three? I've never seen them before. Sesshomaru I don't feel comfortable discussing my business in front of strangers no matter how easy it is to get that information." "They are my most trusted advisors…you may speak freely in front of them." Kagome frowned. "Somethings aren't meant for others to hear Sesshomaru and you may trust them but to me they're just as low as any other Youkai walking around the palace…except I don't even know their names." Their backs stiffened as if this was the first time they met someone who didn't grovel near their feet. "Miko, you will treat them with respect befitting their station." One of them looked her right in the eye, a condescending look in his eyes a smug grin on his face. Kagome wasn't visibly mad, in fact she looked peaceful but her beast was raging inside at the look the Youkai gave her. She focused her aura on him, forcing him to bow his head, and he gave the air a small scent of his fear calming her beast yet making her sick. "You should know by now Sesshomaru that dogs and I are a volatile mix…and I'm pretty sure birds won't fair much better." She pointedly looked at the one who had slid into the corner who had glared at her from the corner of his eye. The only one she didn't practically smother with her aura was the youngest of the three. Although he didn't look at her he didn't glare at her or try to appear bigger…instead he seemed to shrink into the corner. "Crane…Dog. What are your names?" at first they were reluctant to speak but she increased pressure on them until they were gasping out their names. The Cranes name was Shou and she committed that in mind with his scent and face; he had fair skin and short white hair which at a second glance appeared to be feathers. The Inu's name was Aki and true to his name his hair was the reddish brown of autumn leave and his skin held a healthy tan, He appeared slightly older than Sesshomaru while Shou appeared younger, she knew if he or Shou stood they'd tower over her. "Aki-san, Shou-san you two shall refer to me as either Lady Kagome or Miko-sama." When they nodded she softened her aura and turned to the last Youkai. He looked like the youngest of the trio and was obviously a kitsune. She let her aura wash over him gently and when he looked up smiled. "You know you look exactly how I picture my son will when he's grown…you smell kinda like him too…what's your name? You can call me Kagome of course…but only because you remind me of Shippo."
"M-my name is Itazura L-lady."
"Itazura huh? How did you get to be an advisor to this stick in the mud?" They seemed to recoil as she spoke. "Miko." She could hear the warning in Sesshomaru's voice but honestly she didn't care. "You said I could speak freely around them didn't you? Now did you call me in here to play meet and greet or did you have a real reason because we both know you don't care that I haven't taken the exam yet. How much did you tell them about me anyways? Do they know everything?" Itazura seemed to exude relief now that Kagome's attention was focused on someone else, Aki and Shou were inching toward the door but Kagome's ire stopped them short. "Where do you two think you're going hmm? You are Sesshomaru's advisors aren't you? Advise him on how to deal with someone else's personal information then come get me so we can have a proper conversation." She turned to the door and walked out without another glance, her aura retreating all at once, leaving Sesshomaru to shake his head and once again curse himself for letting her into his household.
As soon as Kagome left she went to the gardens, taking in a deep breath as soon as she was out of the shiro. The flowers would be blooming soon and then they would have Rin and Shippo's birthday party. She honestly couldn't wait. She had timed their party with the spring festival and it was going to be magnificent. She had even been practicing with her fox fire in secret so she could make some fireworks. She had a weapon commissioned for Shippo, even had a messenger take some of her hair and a tooth to Totosai, Sesshomaru had even given a tooth. For Rin she had the necklace and also had some special weapons commissioned for her. 'I don't feel like that's enough though…should I have gotten them more?' 'Fear not I have something of my own for them.' Kagome was slightly surprised. It had been some time since her beast talked directly into her mind. 'Return to our chambers and look within the wall, third panel from the door.' Kagome was curious if not slightly wary of what she would find. She was thinking of all the possibilities as she walked to her room. The moment she entered she went to the panel and she had the decency to be ashamed that she never noticed it opened. Inside there was two small parcels. She opened the first one to find a circlet of black silver and one of regular silver and she could feel pride in her the handiwork. Why hadn't she remembered about this, she remembered about the girl… 'I thought it would make a nice surprise…' 'So you altered my memory?' 'I do it if necessary.' 'What do you mean if it's necessary what else have you made me forget?' '…Visions. Terrible bloody visions of possible futures that once you see you would never be able to sleep again. Every vision until you were ready to accept them again.' Kagome stopped for a moment. So her visions hadn't magically stopped they were being erased? How many lives could she have saved with those visions? How many things could she have stopped? Would she have shattered the jewel? Or would she have foreseen it? Would she have learned to control it by now? The more she thought about the what if's the more distressed she got until she had to forcibly shake herself. She had other things to do and wallowing in self pity would not help her. She only had a week to plan this party and not even Naraku could stop her from giving her children the best party ever!
