Chapter 25
"Knock, knock," Clint's voice came from the doorway as he opened the door to their room.
"F off," Maria said, making Steve look at her smiling. Clint rolled his eyes.
"Can we come in?"
"No,"
"Yes, yes you can. Maria's just being rude," Steve said, looking at Clint. Maria rolled her eyes and laid back in the bed, resting her head on the pillow as everyone else came walking into the room.
"How are you feeling lady Maria?" Thor asked.
"Fantastic Thor since I have just gave birth," Maria said sarcastically.
"She is doing great Thor," Steve said, and Thor nodded, smiling. Pepper came over to Steve and asked Steve if she could hold the baby girl. Steve said yes and pasted his daughter over to Pepper. Tony, who was stood next to Bruce at the door leaning on the wall with his arms crossed, noticed who happy Pepper looked while holding Steve's and Maria's baby. They had been together less then Tony and Pepper and were already married and have a baby girl. Tony sighed and rubbed his face with both of his hands.
"You want a kid now or you just realizing that you and Pepper have gotten really no-where in your relationship compared to Steve and Maria's relationship?" Bruce more stated than asked Tony. Tony looked over to Bruce, letting his hands fall to his sides.
"I don't know how you knew that," Tony said. "But that is scary…" he said looking at Bruce, who just shrugged.
"I am a genius," Bruce said, smirking at Tony.
"I am the genius here," Tony said, pointing at himself with his thumb.
"And yet you couldn't see that all Pepper wanted to know was that you were up to having kids in the future," Bruce mumbled making sure no-one else could here them. Maria, Clint and Natasha all heard them, being agents and everything, but no-one else heard the two talking.
"I don't not want to have kids, I mean… it was all kind off sudden," Tony said.
"Really, you have been a relationship with Pepper for ages and not ever even thought about the fact that she might want kids in the future?" Bruce asked him, making Tony groan.
"I don't know… just… I… oh shut up Bruce," Tony snapped the last part, making Bruce smile but shut up.
"So have you decided on a name yet?" Pepper asked them. Maria looked at Steve as if to say you can tell them.
"Scarlett Rogers," Steve said.
"Oh that's a pretty name," Pepper said, smiling down at Scarlett Rogers in her arms. As Thor, Pepper and Steve started to talk together Maria looked at both Clint and Natasha.
"Would you too like to be godparents, I mean I am going to Phil as well but I thought I would ask you too now, seen as you are here," Maria said.
"I would love to be the babies godmother," Natasha said, who was stood next to Maria. Clint smirked. He was sat on the end of the bed.
"I would love to be the godfather of Scar. I mean I am a god after all," Clint said, making both women rolls their eyes.
"You're not a god Clint," both Maria and Natasha said to the archer, who stuck his tongue out at them.
There was a knock at the door and then the nurse came in. She smiled at Maria and Steve but then turned to look at the group of superheroes in the room.
"I am sorry to break this up but the baby and mother needs to get some more rest," the nurse said. The group all nodded and said their goodbyes.
"Thanks," Maria said to the nurse who smiled at Maria.
"No problem," and then she left. Steve placed Scarlett back in her bed and then went to sit in the chair next to Maria's bed, placing his feet up on the bed. He took hold of Maria's right hand with his left hand and closed his eyes, as Maria closed her eyes too.
Tony slowly opened the door to Maria's hospital room and stepped in. The only light in the room was coming from the small table lamp on the little table to the right of the room. Tony saw Maria asleep on the bed and took a seat next to her bed. Baby Scarlett was in the little baby cot next to Maria's bed. Tony sighed and looked around. He had been blackmailed into having to sit in the room while Steve went home to get some proper sleep. Tony heard a little cry and looked over to Scarlett, her eyes closely opening as she started to cry softly. Tony quickly glanced at Maria, she rolled over onto her right side but didn't wake. Tony slowly stood up and quietly over to baby Scarlett's cloth. Tony picked little Scarlett up and rocked her gently.
"Shush," Tony whispered as softly as he could knowing that anything louder Maria would wake, being an agent and everything. Tony rocked the baby from side to side gently as he walked back around to his chair.
"Shush, your gunna wake up mummy," Tony said. Maria smirked a little, still pretending to be asleep. Tony sighed in relief as the baby girl went back to sleep. He slowly sat back down, realizing that this was the first time he had held a baby in years. He looked down at the baby and smiled.
"Your gunna be in a messed up family you know," Tony started. "Well, living with so many superheros and so many cool people... Me the coolest," Tony said. Maria laughed and Tony looked up at her. Maria slowly sat up and looked at Tony. Tony glared at her.
"You don't say a word," Tony told Maria. Maria smiled and shook her head.
"I won't don't worry..." Maria looked at Tony.
"What? What are you thinking?" Tony asked her. Maria looked down at her baby and then back up at Tony.
"I was wondering if you and Pepper would also like to be godparents," Maria said. "I mean you can never have enough god parents right," Maria said and Tony blinked.
"Erm... ok," Tony said.
"Ok... is that it," Maria said, with a smile. Tony blinked and sat up a little, being careful of baby Scarlett.
"I mean yeah sure, I bet Pepper would love it," Tony said.
"Steve… you got everything back there?" Maria asked her husband who was carrying Maria's bags and the babies stuff.
"Yep…" He grunted. Maria smirked.
"You are the one that told me to put everything down," Maria said. "You won't let me help." Maria said as she pressed the button to the common room floor with baby Scarlett in her arms. Steve slammed the car door shut and made his way over to the elevator. The doors opened and they both stepped in. The elevator went up to the common room floor and when the doors opened they were greeted with-
"WELCOME HOME!"
Steve jumped a little, whereas Maria just sighed and walked into the room. Steve dropped the bags to the side of the room. Everyone was here to welcome the unborn home. Tony, Pepper, Natasha, Clint, Thor, Phil, Bruce, Fury, Ward, Skye, Fitzsimmons were also there. Steve hadn't actually met Coulson's team but it would be a fun time to start.
Maria handed the baby straight to Pepper, knowing the women was dying to hold baby Scarlett again. Pepper smiled at the baby in her arms as Maria turned and went to the bar slowly, not showing the pain she was feeling from walking. As she pasted Steve she put her hand up-
"Not a word," and walked to the bar where Tony was sat with a scotch in both hands on the island. Maria pulled out a bottle of red wine and poured a glass.
"Just had a baby and straight for the alcohol Maria... nice," Tony mumbled as he took a sip of his scotch.
"For your information, I don't drink a lot pregnant or not," Maria said, sitting down on the stool next to Tony. There was buffet food on the dining table to the side of them and a banner that hung from the ceiling saying welcome to your new home baby girl.
"Why does that have boy crossed out?" Maria asked, pointing at the banner. Tony looked up at it and then back down at his scotch.
"Clint painted it ages ago thinking that it was going to be a boy, turned out to be a girl I had to repaint it," tony said.
"What? You repainted it...Wow," Maria said, lifting the glass to her lips and taking a drink of the red wine.
"Yes Maria, I do do nice things that are helpful," Tony said.
"Oh I know, I just thought you would have made Clint do it, seen as he was the one that actually fuck up the banner," Maria said to Tony, who just shrugged.
"Still thinking about marrying Pepper?" Maria asked to Tony, who looked over to her.
"How do you…" Tony trailed off as she smirked at him.
"I saw the ring box in your lab that time I came down to see you and Bruce… ages ago," Maria said. Tony blinked at her.
"You have very good eye sight then. It was hidden on the top shelf," Tony said. Maria smiled and looked over to the group of people in the middle of the room surrounding Steve and the baby, all having smiles on their faces.
"You know it's the first time I have seen everyone actually smile at the same time," Tony said.
"Hey, don't try and change the subject," Maria said to him and Tony mutter dammit.
"Ok I was going to ask her soon but then you started to have the baby so I couldn't,"
"So your blaming on me," Maria asked, acting all shocked.
"Yeah.
"Great." She said, her facial features going back to normal. "So when you going to do it?" Maria asked, taking another drink of her wine
"Soon." Tony replied, downing his scotch and pouring himself another.
"And when is soon?"
"Just… soon. Don't worry I tell you first when I am going to. You're the only one that knows in fact not even Bruce knows yet. I mean Jarvis knows, but he knows everything… and I mean everything," Tony rambled on. Maria nodded and looked up as Steve walked over to them.
"What you talking about?" He asked, then kissed Maria on the forehead.
"Oh just stuff," Maria said. "Come on, I want food." She said, holding out her hand for Steve to help her to the dining table. She couldn't move that fast, since everything hurt, but she was tough so she would deal with it. She turned to wink at Tony who winked back and downed his full glass of scotch. He started to pour another one, feeling the ring box in his pocket as he looked over to Pepper, who had a big smile on her face. Tony smiled and took a sip of the scotch, before getting up and walking over to the group, his hand in his pocket holding the black ring box
