Chapter 25

Elijah had decided to throw a peace party between the different kinds. Werewolves, witches, vampires, they were all here. Becca looked out over the railing and saw people all mingling with their own kinds. Klaus and Elijah stood on the other side across from her, whispering to each other as they looked over the group of people below them. Klaus was up to something, she knew as much was true. He just wouldn't tell her what. Not that she expected him to just because she asked.
A familiar pair of eyes caught her as she scanned the crowd. It was the teen witch, Davina. The poor confused girl had joined with the witches. Genevieve was leading them. Her fingers gripped the railing at the sight of the red head. Glancing at Davina again, she realized she herself was watching someone. Following her gaze, she realized it was one of the wolves. A blond man she recognized as the man who'd lured Rebekah into the woods. She could definitely do better.
Moving on, her eyes went to Hayley, who had brought her pack here with her. Jackson, the other man from the party, was standing beside her, whispering in her ear. They were on guard, as they should be.
Then, there was another group. The vampires. Diego was among them, glaring at the blond wolf as he took a sip of his drink. Kol was among that group, flirting with the women around him. He seemed to be the only person truly enjoying themselves. She couldn't help but notice his eyes seemed to keep flickering over to the teen witch. Raising a brow, she watched on with curiousness. Now that was something she hoped became something.
As much as she was mad at Kol for what he did to her, she did care for him still. She wanted him to be happy and Davina was her friend. She deserved to be happy after everything she's been through. She might be a good influence on him too.
Her eyes flickered up to see Elijah leaving Klaus and joining the party, probably to maintain the peace between the vampires and wolves. As if knowing she was looking, Klaus looked up and met her gaze. She couldn't seem to look away from him. It was as if he was daring her to look away first. Her hand absentmindly went to her stomach upon feeling their baby kick inside of her. It was as if just knowing Klaus was near excited her. She knew the feeling well.
Klaus was the first to break their stare when Genevieve joined his side. Suddenly she was reminded he was currently seeing her and she felt foolish. She was seeing Thierry, she shouldn't be having a stare off with Klaus. "I feel like I'm watching Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time front row." Hayley's voice said out from behind her.
Blushing, Becca quickly turned around to find her friend standing there. Brushing her hair back nervously, her finger tips brushed against her bare skin where her rose necklace use to be. She missed it. Not because Klaus gave it to her, because it was her favorite piece of jewlery she owned. "Beauty and the beast." She mumbled, thinking of the necklace and the dress that had come with it.
Confusion crossed Hayley's face at the mention of the movie. If Becca could turn any redder, she would have on the spot. "Oh, um, Beauty and the beast, it was what we watched on our first date. Mine and Klaus'. It just became our thing after that. Sorry, it's stupid. He probably doesn't even remember." She said, glancing back sadly to see Klaus leaning over to kiss the stupid witch.
As much as she wanted to say it didn't hurt, she couldn't lie to herself. It hurt a lot to see him kissing her, even if she had been kissing someone else just the day before. "Can you love and hate someone at the same time?" She found herself asking as she saw them talking across the compound.
Hayley squeezed her friend's arm, trying to be comforting to her. She wasn't in an easy spot when it came to Klaus. It was hard to hate someone you were sharing a child with, lived with, and still cared about. "Love and hate have a very thin line between them. Come on, let's go. I want to introduce you to the pack." Hayley said, tugging on her hand. With one last look over her shoulder, she sighed and nodded before following her downstairs.
When they got down to the party, Hayley noticed Jackson had disappeared and Oliver was busy talking to Davina before going to dance with Sophie's niece. That seemed like a sticky mess she wanted to stay out of. "I guess they've made themselves at home. Come on, you can catch me up on what's been going on with you? How's the baby? Is Klaus being worse than usual?" She asked, her eyes flickering to her ever-growing stomach.
Becca rubbed her baby bump as she glanced around the room. It took everything she had not to look up to see if she could still see Klaus and Genevieve. When she realized Hayley was waiting for answers, she cleared her throat and shifted from one foot to the other. "Oh, um, the baby's fine. Klaus is Klaus, nothing new there. I, um, I went on a date. With Thierry." She confessed, blushing at the memory of their kiss. She suddenly wished he had come.
Hayley looked surprised at the news. She wasn't blind, she'd seen the tension and looks between Becca and Klaus. She'd seen their end and she'd seen the start to their new beginning. It wasn't going to be easy, she had no doubt that they still loved each other. As much as she hated Klaus, everyone deserved to have someone they loved. "Does Klaus know about Thierry?" She asked curiously, crossing her arms.
"He knows. If you didn't notice, he's not exactly single either. I just . . . I don't know how to feel." She confessed, looking around to make sure no one was listening to them.
Not that it mattered. Any one of the wolves or vampires could hear them and she'd be none the wiser. Hayley just waited for her to explain more. "He killed my mom, Hayley. Even if I've . . . accepted she's gone. He killed her. How could I even think of being with him again? Of still loving him? Tyler was right, I'm an idiot. My mother would be turning in her grave if she could see me now." She whispered, twisting her dress between her fingers nervously.
Hayley sighed, wishing she could fix her friend's problem for her. The poor girl had gone through enough, she didn't need this extra stress. It was between her and Klaus though, and she couldn't make the decison for her. "First of all, you're not an idiot. You've got bad taste in men, but you're not an idiot." Becca let out a sad laugh. "Second, you can't help who you fall for, Becca. It never makes sense. As for forgiving him, I'm not sure how that works. I think that's something you just need to do or don't do. If you even think there might be a hint of feelings left for him though, you need to tell him. It doesn't mean you'll get back together, but there's hope." She said, touching her arm as she gave her a small smile.
Hope.
It always seemed to come down to hope. Hearing footsteps, she looked up and cleared her throat at the sight of Elijah approaching them. As much as she wanted to pretend he hadn't heard them, she had a feeling he had. He held out a hand for Hayley. "Would you like to dance?" He asked, his eyes never leaving Hayley's.
Hayley didn't want to leave her alone, but she could tell the wolf wanted to accept Elijah's offer so badly. Far be it for her to stand in the way of their love story finally picking up off the ground. "Go, go. I'll be fine." She said, motioning for her to go. Hesitating a moment longer, she finally nodded and let Elijah lead her away .
Sighing, Becca took a second to take in the party around her. She only knew a handful of people here, and none were anyone she wanted to talk to. It was times like this she wished she could call Caroline and talk to her. She was always her get away car when her mother made her attend a boring meeting. Her blond friend wouldn't be coming to her rescue this time though. No one would.
She thought about going to find Klaus, but that was a conversation for another day. Her emotions were all over the place tonight, and it probably wasn't the best time to talk about whatever she was feeling when she felt so lonely. Her hand reached up to her neck again, forgetting the familiar charm was no longer there. "Now this is a sad sight." A voice said out, catching her off guard.
Her head snapped up, her hand dropping in surprise. A smile lit up on her face at the sight of a vampire she knew very well wasn't suppose to be here. "Thierry! Wh-what are you doing here? If Klaus or Elijah see you . . ." She was cut off as he pulled her into another room. "If they know you're here, they'll kill you. You shouldn't be here." She warned him as he shut the door behind them.
"I wanted to see you." He said once he was sure they were alone.
"But-"
He cut her off as he cupped her face and kissed her. Her body had tensed up at first, not knowing how to react, before she relaxed and kissed him back. Leaning his head against hers, he watched her as his arms wrapped around and the two swayed back and forth."But nothing. I wanted to see you. It's be fine." He whispered, giving her a quick kiss to quiet her worries.
He shouldn't be here. Not just because Klaus would have his head, but because she was just so conflicted. She liked Thierry, she did, but . . . but then there was her feelings for Klaus and it just made her head hurt. She didn't want to be this conflicted. She should want just Thierry and only him. He didn't kill her mom. He didn't call her to rub it in. He hadn't hurt her like Klaus had.
But he just didn't make her feel the way Klaus did.
She opened her mouth to tell him as much when a crash came from the main room. Sharing a look, she pushed him toward the other doors that would lead him outside. "Go! Please, just go. Klaus can't find you here. I'll call you." She said, pleading with him to just leave before he got caught. He didn't fight her, thankfully, as she pushed him out the door.
Once she was sure he was gone, she heard another crash and hurried to go find out what was going on out there. She opened the doors right as Oliver shoved Diego into the piller. A gasp left her lips when Elijah suddenly appeared and pinned the blonde wolf face down on the closest table. "This ends now." He announced. "I won't ask again."
"Oh, we'll end it alright." Jackson said out, holding a stake to Diego's heart.
Becca covered her mouth in horror. As much as she didn't like Marcel's righthand man, she didn't want to see anyone hurt. This night was suppose to be about peace, but this was the exact opposite. "What's stopping you?" Hayley called out. Both men turned to the woman in question. "Kill him."
"Go ahead, Elijah. Do it." Hayley said, moving closer as she kept her eyes locked with the original's. "I mean, it's not like he doesn't deserve to die."
Becca was so caught up in the scene unfolding she hadn't noticed Klaus joining her side until she felt his hand on the small of her back. Glancing back, she saw that his jaw was clenched. He was worried, and she wasn't sure what scared her more. How serious Hayley looked, or how worried Klaus was trying not to look. "Can't you stop this, Klaus?" She whispered, searching his eyes for something, even just a hint that he'd step in if need be.
Klaus' eyes searched the room, pausing briefly on Elijah. He seemed to be accessing the situation. She'd seen him do it before. He was seeing if this would actually turn into anything that he felt he would need to step in or if Elijah could handle it. After a moment, his body relaxed and a grin appeared on his lips. "Why would I? This party just got interesting." He said, sparing her a look to see her glaring at him. "Don't give me that look, love. It'll work out in the end."
The two were locked in a stare for a few moments longer before Hayley's voice broke it and they returned their attention to what was going on before them. "I mean it was Oliver who handed Rebekah over to the witches so they could torture her, but then again, wasn't it Diego who led a werewolf massacre last month? And the witches cursed the wolves, while the human stood back and let it all happen, so when you think about it, everyone here deserves to die." She went on, her eyes looking around to all the guilty faces.
"Are you approaching a point?" Elijah asked.
Without thinking, Becca slipped her hand into Klaus' and squeezed. Even if he thought everything would work out, at the moment she couldn't see how. Klaus looked surprised at the gestor, his lips parting as he looked down at her. His expression softened as he watched her, his fingers giving her a reassuring squeeze back. "My point, Elijah, is this. If we can't all learn to get along, if our families can't create some sort of community. What's the point? Kill each other and get it all over with." She said, daring him to do it. Elijah hesitated before letting Oliver go, Jackson doing the same with Diego.
Becca felt like she was able to breathe again when she saw it was over. Feeling another squeeze on her hand, she remembered she was holding onto Klaus' hand the entire time and blushed. Glancing back, she saw him watching her in return. "Sorry." She mumbled as she pulled her hand away and used it to brush back a fallen curl that had come loose.
Clearing his throat, Klaus took a step back and nodded. He couldn't get distracted, not when he was so close to succeeding. Glancing around the room, he tensed when he realize at least one pair of eyes had been watching them instead of the scene before them. Genevieve stood among the witches, but instead of watching what had just infolded before them, her eyes were narrowed on him and Becca. That would not end well, he did not want to drag Becca into this mess. A jealous witch was a witch he wanted as far away from Becca as possible.
"Excuse me. Goodnight, Becca." He said quickly, nodding his head before making his leave and slipping into the crowd before she could question his sudden departure.
"Goodnight, Klaus."
