Bella sat down in her new chair in a huff. Those books were heavy, and making a dozen trips from her car to her little cabin was exhausting for her. Dmitri, however, had not broken a sweat.

"I could've moved all the books in a flash, you didn't have to move them all yourself."

Bella glanced to him. "I wanted to do it myself. This is my first proper library, I have to do it right the first time around." She turned to the shelves, "I can't have a library where the books are not sorted properly. I don't want to spend hours fixing it due to your super speed."

He raised his hands. "Ok, but I did offer."

"Yes, you did, and that was very kind of you." Bella sipped from the cup of cold tea that she had forgotten about.

"We still have to books that I collected for you from the bookshops." Dmitri said, moving through to the kitchenette to retrieve some snacks for Bella.

"Yeah, about that." Bella shifted. "How did you know exactly what books I wanted to get from each shop?"

"Do I feel my ears burning?" Johnny walked through the door. "Here's the other box, just delivered from Portland. I had to pull some strings to get these."

He placed the box down. Bella stared. The box had Charlie's address on it.

"That's the box that I ordered weeks ago. They said it was lost in the mail and it could be months before it was found."

"Nope, they were just lazy arse-wipes and couldn't be bothered to gather the many books that you ordered." Johnny shrugged. "Maybe order them in smaller chunks next time?"

"So this was how you found out? The know it all?"

"If you had a way to cause happiness in a person you loved, you would utilise every know it all to get it done." Dmitri grinned. "And this particular one owed a favour to me."

"C'mon!" Johnny pointed. "Just because I accidentally killed your horses that one time a millenia ago, doesn't mean that you can hold it against me for eternity!"

Dmitri pouted. "But they were my prized horses, the ones that I saved from near death. They were my entire world."

"They were just animals, Uncle would've got you more if you so batted your pretty little eyes at him!"

"Boys." Bella interrupted. "You are fully grown, immortal adults. Act like it."

Johnny turned. "I'm sorry, Dimmy, I didn't realize you bought mother into this heated conversation."

"Don't call me that," Dmitri insisted, "you know I hate that name."

Bella snorted. "Dimmy?"

"Don't ask." Dmitri went to the new box. "So what books did you order then?"

Bella got up and joined him. "Extra reading, for Literature. Some books I will need for my degree. Odd ones that looked interesting."

"There are well over a hundred books in here!" Johnny exclaimed. "How did you manage to get this order beyond the scrutiny of the chief?"

"Hey, they were on offer." Bella defended.

"She can get whatever books she wants, she does have a whole library to fill." Dmitri raised.

Johnny raise his hands in defence. "I'm not judging!"

"Better not!" Bella shifted the books into the already toppling towers in front of the cases.

"You have a class today don't forget. I'm not taking over like the other day, I cannot stand teenagers, especially when I know which of them is going to be a little shit."

"Fine. I'll take my class today." Dmitri shrugged. "I'll just teach them how to tack up. Shouldn't be too difficult." He headed to the door. "You want to come with me? I could actually teach you something this time around." He smirked.

Bella blushed. "Nope, I uh, have to sort out the books. You go ahead. I'll catch you up later?"

"You'd better." And with that, Dmitri left the room with Bella's eyes wandering after him.

"You are so hooked on him, aren't you?" Johnny joked.

"What do you mean, hooked?" she turned. "I've known him for about…"

"Almost two months now."

"Really? Two months?" she frowned. She cannot of been with Dmitri for two months. She couldn't of been away from home for two months. It didn't even seem like two weeks. Time flies.

"So what are you planning for the day?" She quickly changed the subject. "You can't just be helping me get books."

"I did plan to find out why you're so hooked on my cousin." He folded his arms. "You're not getting away that easily."

"I don't know! I just feel, i don't know, whole, with Dmitri? Is that a possible thing?"

"It is, if you believe in such a thing as soul mates."

"You can't be serious."

"Dead serious." he grinned. "This kind of thing is more common in the supernatural than with humans. Probably happening with you and Dmitri, since you feel 'whole'."

Bella sat down. "But we can't be. I'm a human. It shouldn't work with me."

"But you're not an ordinary human, are you? Your ex couldn't read your thoughts, Aro can't access your mind. Maybe that has something to do with it? Who knows?"

Bella couldn't think. How could they be soul mates? It was practically impossible. She didn't deserve such a thing.

"Don't you fucking do that. I'm fed up with it."

"Do what?"

"Self doubt. Self depreciation. Self hatred." He wrinkled his nose angrily. "It literally seeps from your pores. Stop it."

He crouched down to Bella. "You are great. Everyone else around you is shit. Don't you dare think that you're existence is pointless. I know it's not. I've seen it."

She looked up. "You've seen it? What did you see?"

Johnny blinked. "Can't say."

"Can't, or won't?"

"Both I suppose." He got up. "It's dangerous to know the future of yourself."

"But-" Bella started, but Johnny was gone, leaving the door swinging in his wake.

…

The smell of bleach was sickening. Jacob wrinkled his nose. It was incredibly strong in this town, it's like they made root in this town and claimed it as their own. He was disgusted.

Hiding in the tree line at the edge of the town, Jacob took in the surroundings. It didn't seem as if there was a huge issue of terror here, there were no warnings to stay inside at night or have garlic around your neck at all times. They seemed very relaxed about their apparent infestation.

Jacob shifted back to human form, finding clothes on a washing line that seemed like they would fit, and wandered through the streets. His stomach rumbled as he passed a bakery. 'Free Bread Day' a sign told him, he smiled and thanked whoever arranged this day.

Entering the bakery, Jake overheard many conversations. Keen hearing was sometime a curse and a blessing.

"I can't believe how disgusting his nappy was this morning," a mother of two was telling, "I mean really, we can't even feed him anything other than the milk from the organic store or else it's hell!"

Jake wasn't at all liking the image that that woman had given him.

"That horse ranch is doing well, I hear." An old woman commented to her equally old friend.

New people in town? It might be the vampire that took Bella.

"Ever since they came into town, everywhere else has gained decent custom! We should all be thankful to that Johnny fellow, really, and his sibling is such a gentleman!."

There were two? Jake was handed a couple of loaves from the counter.

"Just the other day, in fact, he helped my husband clear out the attic. He seems to know a great deal about the war. His father, I think, was in the same company as Frank. He so enjoys talking to Dmitri about the times they had together. Frank says Dmitri is the exact image of his father!"

Jake thought it was time to intervene

"Excuse me, ladies," both of the elderly women looked up to Jacobs dazzling smile.

"Yes, young man?"

"I'm sorry that I overheard, but I am actually looking for some horse riding lessons and i heard through the vine that Johnny's ranch is the place to go. I can't for the life of me find it, could you help me with the directions?"

He hated to resort to almost begging, but searching physically through the overpowering scent of vampires was going to take much longer. He didn't have the time.

"Oh, yes! Johnny's is the best ranch around here. If you follow the track through town and head to the valleys, it has signposts saying 'ranch'. Very hard to miss, dear." the old lady smiled.

"Thank you so much for your help. Have a nice day." Jake smiled and left the bakery, all but running the way the lady told him. He couldn't shift here, not when there were so many people about. He'd have to go undercover to scope the area out.

He smiled. He had always wanted to be James Bond, even if it was just for a day.
