29 weeks pregnant.
"Kelly Severide you are hereby sentenced to carry out a 100 hours of community service and are you attend the anger management session within your union." The judged announced to the court room. Considering the amount of damage the lieutenant had actually done to his victim it was amazing that he had been given just that but his defense team had been amazing and with the nature of his attack being the defense of his pregnant girlfriend then the jury had apparently ruled in his favor.
Severide made his way out to the hall ways where his entire family stood, even Antonio was there with the crew. He made a b-line straight to Shay whom he now pretty much categorized as his girlfriend. "I told you we would be fine." Severide smirked softly, Shay had been driving herself silly with worry over the idea that she was going to end up bringing up these babies with their father in jail as a thug.
Pulling away he was embraced by Boden. "I expect this means that I will have my lieutenant back tomorrow then." Boden grinned; he had been there through the whole process supporting the couple.
"Excuse me; I am your lieutenant too!" Casey protested pulling Severide into a hug. "I'm glad you aren't behind bars man but me and Gabby have to get out of here. Family does." He sighed before he and the paramedic disappeared. Severide nodded and ended up back at Shays side with a firm grip on her.
"Now I really don't mean to break up this party of happiness chief but if Severide is returning tomorrow then we really need to talk." Mouch sighed as he made his way to the front of the group. "As much as we all love having you together at 51 the union is not so certain that it's the best call and one of you is going to have to move."
"That won't be a problem." Severide grinned looking down at Shay, after endless hours of guilt tripping her she had finally given in and decided that it would be best if she took her maternity leave from now. "/We/ decided together that the safest place for Shay would be at home now."
"Yes because I'm fat and wobbly and basically useless in every aspect of my life right now." Shay grumbled japing him in the side seemingly forgetting she had asked him for this in the first place.
"Seriously though guys… thanks for all coming." Severide mumbled. They all murmered their goodbyes to each other and headed out until it was just the two of them left. "Shall we get ourselves home mummy?" Severide mumbled affectionately tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear.
"Mmmm, and I want ice-cream." Shay laughed, it was only 10am but she wanted ice-cream and she was going to get it.
Shay and Severide laid out together on the rug laughing as they looked through housing magazines surrounded by empty ice cream tubs and blankets. Shay was trying to read out features of each house but Severide seemed to be distracted with other things as he laid playing with her rather large bare bump. "What's that JD. Yes your mummy is being a bore, yes this house does have all the same features as the last 11 she read out that's right." He spoke with his lips pressed against her bump as he smirked up at her. 29 weeks ago he had never imagined that he would ever be laid out with a steady girlfriend, a bump and housing brochures yet now he couldn't imagine anywhere else he would rather be.
Deciding to entertain him Shay pushed up onto her elbows and looked down at him with a raised brow. "I think you will find that was Ellie." She answered him back playfully.
"Oh and how exactly do you figure that one out."
"Because she kicked and she always gets excited with the sound of your voice. She is going to have her daddy wrapped around her little finger I can tell."
"You're not going to be jealous when she becomes daddies favorite girl are you?" Severide asked as he moved so he was hovering over her just fitting with her bump.
"No, I think I can cope with her but she better be the only girl who comes before me."
"I…" Severide pressed his lips to hers before even finishing his sentence and grinned as he spotted the open house magazine. "Hey I like the look of that one." He laughed pulling away before groaning as he heard a knock at the door. "I'll get it." He sighed and rolled of her pushing up pulling her with him before padding to the door.
Opening it he frowned seeing an oldish looking couple on his doorstep. "Hey can I help you?" Severide asked giving Shay a sideways look of confusion.
"You must be Mr. Severide." The man commented holding out his hand. Severide nodded slowly and shook his hand. "That's me."
"You live with my daughter I believe. We are looking for Leslie Shay."
Severide froze as he realized he had never even met the Shays before and when Leslie hardly ever spoke about them he had no idea how much of the story they knew, looking at Shays face he guessed it wasn't much. As she heard her father's voice Shay immediately pulled her shirt back down over her bare bump as if it was somehow going to conceal her twins. Rushing to the door she stood behind Kelly and smiled at her parents over his shoulder. "Hey you guys what are you doing here? You never come here!"
She grinned truing to act normal but her mother didn't miss a trick.
"Leslie!" Mrs. Shay gasped as she took in the sight of her daughter cowering behind the young man. "You- You're…. when… Lesbian." Her mother stuttered out as she gestured to her bump. "When were you going to tell us?" She asked now close to tears. Severide on the other hand looked like he was ready to bolt out of the door running at full speed but remained locked in his place well aware of the looks he was receiving from Mr Shay.
"Hum, why don't we take this inside?" Severide asked attentively as Shays mother rushed forward and began to gush over the bump. Naturally Shays parents had never expected her to have children, especially not biological ones because of her sexuality but they had accepted that a long time ago and now here she was.
"Mom calm down!" Shay laughed as she placed her hand over her stomach feeling very exposed looking to Severide for some sort of help. Without needing to hear the words Kelly grabbed his large sweater from the couch and handed it to her placing a kiss on her forehead before pulling away quickly.
Sitting on the sofa shays father, Walter, looked around the apartment silently watching as Leslie and his wife gushed over the fact she was expecting twins. He took in all the sights before his eyes finally landed onto the lieutenant whom was hovering in between both seats as if he was too scared to sit on either of them for fear he would incriminate himself. Coughing loudly he caught the attention of his daughter who seemed to suddenly remember that he was there.
"Hi daddy." Shay grinned at him meekly pulling on Kelly's arms so he was tugged into the sofa next to her. "Surprise?"
"You're not joking kiddo. Want to explain what the hell is going on here?"
"Well I'm pregnant obviously. 29 weeks, one boy and one girl." Shay answered him.
"How on earth did this happen?"
"Well dad I really do not want to go into the legistics of that with you." Shay blushed furiously.
"And who is the father?" Walter asked though with the way the fireman sat opposite him was looking worried it really wasn't a question he needed answering.
"I- I am." Severide answered finding his voice again lifting his head to look at her father. "It's nice to meet you by the way sir." He added. This was ridiculous, he ran into burning buildings for a living and yet he was terrified sat on his own couch.
"Oh darling. We thought you were gay!" Julia grinned at her daughter squeezing her arm. "And you are having babies with a fireman."
"Mom I am gay."
"So are you to not? I mean…"
"Mom do you think we can talk about this like when dad isn't in the room?"
"Who wants a drink?" Severide asked jumping up from the sofa heading to the kitchen area. As he turned around from the fridge he came face to face with a very steely looking Walter, whilst Severide matched him in size and probably out did him in fitness he still felt the shiver of nerves.
"Can I get you a drink sir?" He asked quietly holding out a beer to him.
"You can get me an explanation."
"Absolutely, what do you want to know?"
"How my lesbian daughter ends up having children with… how did she put it…. The biggest womanizer in all of Chicago?"
"That's a little… I mean. She asked me to sir. She wanted to have a child and we were going to have one as best friends. She couldn't afford the artificial root and neither could I so…." Kelly trailed of nervously and took a sip of his beer.
"What do you mean were?"
"Well our relationship has….. developed?"
"Do you love her?"
Pausing mid drink Kelly looked across the room to where Shay and her mother were now on the floor looking through the housing magazines together as if Julia had been there from the start. Honestly he didn't need to think about it, the shopping for baby things. The double cot they had bought yesterday, the scans, even the stupid moments they had like before the Shays had shown up were all just things that cemented into his mind how much he was in love with his best friend. "Yes sir I do. I'm going to look after them. All of them I promise you." He answered looking her father square on in the eyes.
Walt looked at him and nodded slowly, he was currently beyond confused and he was going to need some rather large holes filling in for him along the way but he had never seen Leslie look so happy and whilst the lieutenants job didn't exactly appear to him as stable for a family the look in the young man's eyes was enough for any father to be happy for their little girls.
