Chapter 25

Ellington walked out of the room a short while after Ross had been taken out to go down to surgery where he was met with both Riker and Rocky. "What the fuck is your game?" Rocky asked, making Ellington confused.

"Where have you been these past few days?" Riker asked.

"I went to go see a friend back home because they were in a rough place and needed someone badly. I didn't have time to tell anybody where I was going and how long I would be gone. I didn't even know myself." Ellington lied.

Riker folded his arms, stepping forward slightly "What friend? Cos I know you've been disappearing more than just these past two days; this isn't the first time you've done it."

"An old friend from where I used to live in Wisconsin. I just said that but without the Wisconsin part."

"Alright, what was so wrong with him that you had to get up and leave Ross, knowing he could literally have the baby at any minute?" Riker asked, raising his voice. Rocky had already had some-what of a go at him before, he wasn't going to do it again. He was saving it for an extra special day when Ellington would cross the line once more and the truth will have finally been revealed "Was he in that much of a rough place?" Riker added.

Ellington rolled his eyes "Look, he had family problems which made him turn to do some stuff that wasn't and still isn't right, okay? So I went and helped him as much as I could, like the good friend that I am, before getting him professional help. Once I saw the calls and texts from you guys I swear I never jumped on a train fast enough." Ellington said, slightly impressed on the inside at how he was coming up with this lie as he went along.

Now Rocky rolled his eyes "Stop feeding us bull shit."

"I'm telling the truth. If you don't believe me then that's your problem, not mine."

"What's the name of your friend?" Riker asked, catching Ellington off guard.

Ellington froze, not being able to respond fast enough. "See, you are lying!" Rocky said, raising his voice.

"I'm not!" Ellington protested "I've just had Ross squeezing my hand, causing me pain – alright, not as much as he's probably in – and have him say a lot of stuff to me that I had to make out because he wasn't speaking clearly, so sorry. My brain is a little frazzled right now."

"Excuse me," Riker cut in "he's been holding my hand since four a.m., screaming and crying to me because of the pain and because you weren't there! He was worried out of his mind and petrified, all whilst in labour! Do you know how bad that is for someone?! You only got the good half of it, meaning he had calmed down as soon as you walked through the door! So don't you fucking dare say your brains frazzled from being there for him for all of five fucking minutes!"

Silence fell over the three boys as that little speech managed to shut Ellington up and stop him from feeding them more bullshit, which they were all eternally grateful for – even Ellington himself. Riker spoke up again "Me and Rocky are going to the cafeteria. You better stay here and wait no matter how long it takes for them to get Leila out of Ross."

"Get out?" Ellington questioned.

"Well I can't say he's giving birth to her can I? Technically he's not but technically he is. But mainly not beca—"

Rocky held his hand up to cut Riker off "Stop right there that is not an explanation, nor image, we need in our minds."

Riker and Ellington grimaced in disgust at the thought. Riker shoved Rocky in the direction of the cafeteria and they both began to leave.

Ellington watched them both leave down the hallway and sat down in the waiting chair when his phone started to buzz. He checked his phone seeing a text from Georgia asking him where he was and when he was coming back to her.

And by that point, Ellington realised he was in way too deep with Georgia to get out of the mess he's in with her. By the message she sent it was obvious she was becoming too clingy and always assuming he's always going to come to her at some point. There was no way he was getting out of this okay.

He decided to ignore the text and delete it, in the hope that if he continued to ignore her the problem would go away and she would leave him alone.

But lets face it, that's just wishful thinking.

Ross laid in bed, feeling himself begin to wake up. He hadn't opened his eyes yet but already he felt drowsy and dizzy, praying like hell he hadn't woken up in the middle of the operation because that is not a sight he wants to see.

He moved his hand from beside him to his belly, no longer being able to feel his baby bump.

"Ross?" A voice said gently.

His eyes fluttered open and he looked to his left where Ellington got up from where he sat in a chair and sat on the edge of the bed, smiling softly at him and stroking his hair gently "Are you alright?" he asked.

"How long... How long have I been out for?" Ross asked, groggily.

"You got back from the OR about forty-five minutes ago. I don't know how long you were in there for though because I didn't check the time and I fell asleep in the waiting chair waiting," Ellington said. He watched Ross seeing that he was really tried and drowsy, which is understandable as he has probably been on a lot of morphine, and whatever else, to take away the pain. "You know what, I'll wait till you're awake enough and less drowsy until you hold Leila. I think that would be the wise choice."

Ross nodded, shutting his eyes. Seconds later they flew back open. "Wait, what?" He asked, puzzled.

"Leila. Our child and daughter. The main reason why you are here in the first place. Jesus Christ, Ross, how drowsy are you?" Ellington asked, finding it slightly funny yet concerning at how he had spent the last nine months pregnant and as soon as the baby is born he forgets about her the minute he wakes up.

"Quite a lot apparently," Ross said with a slight nod "have you held her yet?" he asked.

Ellington shook his head "No I think you should hold her first, you know? Given that Mothers, aka the person who birthed the baby, always hold the baby first."

Ross stared at Ellington, blinking in disbelief. He sat up in the bed as best as he could "You do realise that in order for me to hold her you have to pick her up – aka hold her – to give her to me. Right?"

"Oh... Yeah..." Ellington let out a soft laugh, shrugging as he got off the bed and made his way over to the bassinet that Leila was in. "See, if I'd have figured that out half an hour ago I would have held her."

"I thought you said we came back forty-five minutes ago?"

"Oh, you did. Leila never. She came back about fifteen minutes later because she was being checked over in case there was anything wrong with her that they didn't pick up during the pregnancy. But it's all good, she's fine. There's nothing wrong with her."

"Good."

Ellington picked up Leila from the bassinet gently and made his way over to the bed as she started moving her hands around and making little baby noises. Gently, when he was at the edge of the bed, he put Leila into Ross' arms. "She's so small..." Ross commented as Ellington finished putting her into his arms.

"She's a baby. All babies tend to be small."

"Yeah... But... Some babies are huge when they're born."

"Were you a big baby?" Ellington asked.

Ross shook his head "No but Ryland was."

Ellington laughed, sitting on the edge of the bed again. He looked down at Leila before looking up at Ross who was still looking at Leila. "Thank you." Ellington said.

Ross looked up at Ellington confused "What? What for?" He asked.

"Just... Thank you. I know you've been through a lot these past few months to bring her into this fucked up world and I haven't exactly been the best person in the world along the way... and it's something I'm never going to be able to repay you for so... just... thank you."

Ross smiled "No problem."

Ellington smiled back before bending down and kissing him softly on the lips.

See, now we're at the point of my story where we're at the end & it all seems like sunshines & rainbows & then we find out like a chapter or two later that it's not. I'm not saying anything bad's going to happen, I'm just saying it's just what usually happens :)

But yeah, anyway, there's only 3 chapters left of this story & I don't know if you want me to make there be a specific day on which I update so that the story lasts longer for you all or if you want me to try & finish it by the weekend. What would you prefer?
