The Dark Moon Part 2:
Bex felt herself being shackled next to Scott. They must've increased the electricity on those prods, because this hurt worse than the last. She glanced up as the door opened to reveal Araya coming in with Lydia and one of her goons. Lydia looked scared and even more terrified for her friends. Bex tried to show Lydia some kind of comfort, but it was hopeless. She saw her friends chained up, in pain and she could do nothing about it. "Oh, God." She breathed out.
"Let them go." Scott asked desperately as they neared him. "Look, you have me. Just let the others go."
They ignored his request and begun to chain up Lydia. She winced. Kira came into the room, arm gripped by another one of Araya's goons. Kira looked to Scott. He looked afraid. "Your hand goes here." The man instructed of Kira. She was guided to some kind of switch. He looked at the teenagers. "So let me explain what's about to happen. This one, the fox has an immunity to electricity. So she's going to turn the dial on the Alpha. If she doesn't, I turn the dial on the banshee.'
Kira tried to pull away. "No, I'm not doing this."
"Are you sure?" He taunted her as he forced her hand back onto the dial. "One of your friends has the power to heal. The other? Not so much."
"What are you doing? Is this just a game to you?" Scott asked, upset.
"This is a test, lobito, Let's see if you pass." Araya said calmly. "We're going to ask some questions, you answer them, nobody gets hurt. You don't answer, we turn on the dial." She explained simply. "Now, this one." Araya walked over, standing in front of Bex. She knew that it was her. "Turn the dial on.
"Punishment for killing Rodrigo." She said darkly, glancing over at Bex.
Scott's eyes widened. Bex said nothing. The air just became more suffocating in there. "What are you talking about?" Lydia asked glancing at Bex, but she didn't meet their gazes. This wasn't how she wanted them to find it, actually, she preferred that they never found out about what she did. She didn't want to be looked at differently, like they were now.
"La loba killed my guy."
Scott hesitate before looking at her. "You mean when he tried to kill her." He guessed correctly. He knew Bex wouldn't ever kill someone unless they tried to kill her. It wasn't her, but it would explain why she was so different.
"He is still dead." She said as she flipped the dial on Bex herself, up 3 notches. It was a shock at first, how much it really hurt. Electricity could kill a werewolf, they knew that, but the setting was low enough where it would only hurt. Bex bit back a scream rising in the back of her throat. She wouldn't turn though. The pain hurt so much that her fangs wanted to come out, but she resisted the urge. She wouldn't give them the satisfaction. Kira was shocked at what she did.
Lydia gasped tearing up as she saw her friend spasm in pain. "Stop!"
"Stop! Stop, please!" Scott begged. Araya waited a moment longer before turning it off. "W-we'll do what you say. Whatever you want, please."
She looked over at the alpha. Lydia looked over at Bex, concerned. Bex gave her a weak nod. She was still trying to recover. "So, we don't know where Derek is. We want to find him as well." They didn't want to think about the reason they wanted to find Derek, If what had happened to them was an indication, it wouldn't be good. "You know who took him."
"What?" Scott asked confused. "How would I know that?"
"That doesn't sound like an answer to me."
"We don't know." Lydia spoke up at the women, coldly. "Why do you think we came here?"
"Kira, turn the dial." Kira shook her head looking away. "Should we turn the dial on Lydia instead? Or perhaps Bex again?"
"No, no!" Scott pleaded. He didn't want his friends to get hurt any worse than they already were. "Do it, Kira." She still hesitated. "Do it."
Kira slowly put her hand to the dial. "Let's start at one." She said glancing at him. Kira turned the dial up one notch. Scott gripped the chair, groaning in pain. "Tell me, who actually has Derek." The sparks from the electricity bounced off his wrists from the shackles. "Who had a reason, a vendetta, particular to the Hales?" She demanded.
Scott tried to catch his breath. "I said, I don't know."
"Oh, you don't know, because you haven't figured it out yet." She snapped frustrated. "So think! Who could've taken him?"
The man holding Kira pointed to the notch. "Tres."
Kira looked scared. "It's okay," Scott assured her.
With great reluctance, she turned it up. Scott gasped looking up. "Who had the power? The power of a shapeshifter!" Araya demanded, angrily.
"I don't know!" He seemed to need some type of pushing. She grabbed Bex's dial and turned the notch up to 5. She screamed at the pain coursing through every one of her veins.
"Stop!" Scott begged.
"Ah, someone who could've turned without you knowing! Turned, but not by a bite!" She yelled. "Diez! Diez!" She yelled at Kira. She wouldn't do it though. It was bad enough seeing him like this. Kira didn't have the strength. Araya went over and turned it up herself. Scott yelled out as the electricity increased. Suddenly, he remembered. He remembered that you could be turned by scratch, someone who could've died, but could've been turned also. Scott growled out, his eyes turning red. He broke the shackles. "Say the name, Scott!"
"Kate." He breathed out as his eyes turned back to brown.
xxxxx
"So, why are you just letting us go?" Scott said as Lydia and Bex trailed behind him. It wasn't as easy to get them to let Bex go, but none of them were leaving without her, except perhaps Malia. Plus, Scott had shown how he had been filling his role of being an Alpha. He would fight to get his best friend out.
"I sent four men out to where Kate was rumored to have been seen. None of them came back. Let's see if you can do better." She said as she looked at the werewolf. Across the street, Stiles and Malia stood by the Jeep waiting for them. Lydia pulled her along.
Stiles looked relieved to see her. He didn't hesitated to pull her into his arms. For the first time in months, she didn't fight his comfort. HIs strong arms wrapped around her, for a moment it felt safe. "God, I was so scared. Malia was telling me what happened and I-I couldn't get out. I'm so sorry." He felt like he was going to have another panic attack with her in there with those people and he couldn't get to her, stop them.
"I'm fine." She assured him as his grip tightened on her.
They both knew they knew about her secret now, but he said nothing for now, but she had a feeling it was only a matter of time before he gave her the third degree. "So what now?" Stiles asked as Bex pulled away and Scott walked towards them.
"She thinks she knows where we can find Derek." Scott informed them.
"She going to tell us?" Malia asked impatiently.
Scott looked over at them. "Actually, she's giving us a guide."
As if on cue, a women pulled up, riding a motorcycle. She took off her dark helmet to reveal the mercenary known as Braedon. "Um do you know her?" Stiles asked.
"Braedon." Scott was surprised to see her here, but he shouldn't be. She ran around their circles, between working for Deaton's sister and Deucalion, he shouldn't be surprised she was now working with the hunters.
Bex looked between the two. "Who's Braedon?" Kira asked curiously. There were still things that she and Malia were not privy too.
"She's a mercenary." Lydia said with pursed lips. She obviously didn't agree with her occupation of choice.
"Right now I'm the only one who's going to take you to La Iglesia." Braedon said simply.
"The Church?" Lydia questioned.
"What's the Church?" Stiles asked.
"It's not a place you'll find God."
It wasn't long until they all piled into the Stiles' Jeep and drove behind Braedon. The sun beat down on the vehicles as they travelled down the dirt road. It was clear after about an hour that La Iglesia was far away from any towns nearby. That was a discomforting feeling. The silence, however, was getting to a certain were-coyote. "Okay, I'll ask. Who's Kate Argent?" Malia said bluntly. No one else had dared to speak of what happened yet.
Kira raised her hand, shyly. "Uh, I'd like to know too."
"We were at her funeral, so I'd like to know how she got out of her casket that was buried 6 feet underground." Stiles added.
"She was never in it." Scott told him.
Malia still looked expectant. "She was Allison's aunt, okay?" Lydia snapped out, annoyed before looking away. Bex touched her arm, comforting her. She knew that Lydia was still grieving, as much as the rest of them, with good reason. Allison was gone and now apparently, Kate was back. It wasn't a fair trade. "And a total sociopath."
Kira hesitated looking over at Scott. "You don't have to talk about it now, if you don't want to." Kira got the hint that it brought up memories of Allison.
"Um, yes, he does." Malia argued. She wanted to know what was going on.
Scott relented. "Yeah, she's right. You guys should know. You need to know."
Stiles hesitated as they all waited for someone to say something. "Alright, Kate was the one who set the fire that killed most of Derek's family."
"Some of them survived, like Cora and Peter."
"A very angry Peter." Lydia mused. She remembered that she was the one Peter used to come back to life, how they were all terrorized by him.
Scott remembered that clearly. "Yeah, he was the one who bit and turn me."
"And he's the one who finally caught up to Kate and killed her."
"He's the one who forced me to turn." Bex added as she leaned her head against Stiles' chair. Lydia grabbed her hand. She smiled weakly at her best friend.
Stiles looked over at Scott. "Yeah, but we saw Kate buried."
He shook his head. "We saw a casket, remember? She wasn't in it. The Calaveras heard that Kate had been killed by an Alpha's claws. They wanted to make sure that she was really dead. Her body was healing, more and more as she got closer to the full moon. She was coming back, so they switched out the bodies." He looked back at Kira. "If a hunter is bit, they have to take their own life before they change. The Calaveras, they treat the code like law. They make it their responsibility to enforce it."
Malia shrugged. "Good for her. I wouldn't do it either." She said firmly.
"Would you kill half a dozen people to get out? Because that's what she did."
Kira leaned in a little bit towards Scott. "So Kate's a werewolf now?"
"I don't know." Scott told her truthfully. "You know, there's a saying; sometimes the shape you take, reflects what type of a person you are."
"So she may not look like a werewolf." Bex reiterated.
"What kind of shape is sociopathic bitch?" Lydia scoffed.
The Jeep bounced as it ran over something. Stiles had to stop the car and hurry out. Bex and Scott followed after him. Braedon had turned her bike around and walked towards them as Stiles looked for what kind of damage happened to his car. "What happened?"
"I don't know, it felt like we hit something." Stiles told her as the other girls began to pile out of his car.
"Scott, we need to get there by night. It's too dangerous otherwise." Braedon told him impatiently.
Stiles looked between the two. "Go."
"Not without you." Scott said
"Dude," Stiles walked around the car to his best friend. "Someone needs to find Derek. We'll figure something out. We always do. Just go."
"Okay," Scott finally agreed with his friend.
Stiles patted his arm and walked over to the hood of his car. "Hey, pop the hood for me?" He asked Bex. She climbed into the driver's seat and complied as she watched Kira say goodbye to Scott. Kira hugged him. Scott was surprised but hugged her back. He left on Braedon's bike, rushing towards La Iglesia. Stiles touched her knee. "They're going to be okay."
"I know." She sighed.
"Want to tell me what was going on back there?" Stiles asked her, concern in his eyes. They both knew that he was talking about what Araya revealed. Her killing of a man, what she hid from all of her friend, but especially Stiles. "Malia told me what she said. You should've told me, Bex." He tried to figure out what she wouldn't talk to him about it. He liked to believe that they had become closer with everything that happened. "Bex,"
"I don't want to talk about this." She looked away from him before hopping out of the car. Stiles followed her. "Now's not the time."
"We are talking about this later." Bex didn't reply and instead walked over to see what could be caught in the wheel. Stiles followed her. "Bex, I'm serious."
"I don't think something hit us."
"Don't change the subject."
"No. I think something hit us, Stiles. Look." From the tire, she pulled out a talon, from some kind of animal or monster. Stiles touched it, stunned. Who knows what it could've come from. Just the thought sent chills through them. Bex looked over at him. "Let's get this baby up and running."
"Yeah," He agreed as he turned back to his engine. The thought of what could be out there gave them more encouragement to get back on the road.
Bex was shaking her hands as Raina pulled her into the hotel room, locking the door behind them. She hurried over and closed the blinds after a quick glance out the window. "I didn't see them following us, we should be safe for now." Raina still pulled off the couch cushion, revealing a gun. She made sure that it was loaded and ready. She finally looked at her shell shocked daughter. "Are you okay? Bex," She touched her cheek.
"I-I killed him. I killed him, I murdered him." Her eyes filled up with tears, the consequences of her actions were finally sinking in. He was dead because of her. It was only minutes later and those were the first words that she had spoken.
"He was going to kill you." Raina said without remorse. He deserved it for torturing her daughter. She grabbed her hand, making her look over at her. "Bex, he was going to kill you. Look at me! Never forget, any hunter could kill you without thinking. You needed to defend yourself and you did."
Bex nodded, still shaking. She contemplated calling Stiles, but she didn't even know what she would tell him. She killed someone. That wasn't who she was. She didn't kill people. She didn't want to be that person, she never wanted to be someone like that, like Peter.
"You did the right thing. You protected yourself, you're not a killer. Don't forget that." Raina hesitated before she pulled her into a hug. Bex tensed but hugged her back. At this moment, she didn't mind.
Bex watched as Stiles worked on his Jeep. Lydia stood next to the front of the car as well, patiently watching him work. "Maybe we should just walk." She suggested. It couldn't take any longer to get there as it was taking him to work on this.
"Bad idea, Lyd." Bex smiled at her. She knew how passionate Stiles felt about his Jeep.
"Hey, I will never abandon this Jeep, you hear me? Ever!" Stiles exclaimed as though he was shocked she could even think of suggesting leaving his batmobile. He rolled his eyes digging around again.
"Work faster, Stiles." They all stopped what they were doing and looked up at Malia who was looking out on the open road. "There's something out here with us."
Bex walked over to her. She looked in her direction. Bex could sense that something was amiss as well. More so than the coyote, it was something wanting to hurt them. She could tell. "She's right. Keep working." She climbed into the car and turned on the front lights.
Night fell quickly, they had to get out flashlights so that they could see. Lydia held the flashlight so that Stiles could work. Bex stood in front with Malia and Kira, making sure that anything that wanted to come, would have to go through them first. Kira went in the back and took out her Katana. "Lydia, could you please hold the light still for a second?" Stiles asked her, slightly annoyed. "It's really hard to see anything when you keep shaking like that."
Lydia looked insulted. "I'm shaking it like this because we're in the middle of nowhere with your broken down Jeep and are being attacked by yet another razor clawed monster!" She spouted off. "And I'm terrified."
"Well, just be slightly less terrified." Lydia narrowed her eyes at him. Bex walked over, flicking his ears. "Ow! What the hell?" He looked at her incredulously, rubbing his now red ear.
"Be nice. Apologize and focus." She demanded. Now was not the time for them to get into another argument.
"Fine, hold this." He handed Lydia a piece from the car.
"I don't know. I'm hoping it's not important."
"Okay, let's limit the number of things we take out from the Jeep, yeah?" Bex asked him as she saw the look of terror on Lydia's face. As they were arguing, Kira walked over and put her katana to the front lights as they scanned from any type of animal. "Did you see that?" Bex asked as she walked over to Kira.
Malia focused as she saw something dart out. She growled as her eyes turned blue. Bex ran after it first. "It's getting away." She ran after it looking around.
"Malia, wait!" Kira yelled as she ran off after her. She may have spent most of her life in the wild, but she would still need help facing the unknown."
"Bex!" Stiles called after her getting to his feet.
"Kira,, go!" Lydia told them. "You fix the car!" She turned to Stiles who was about to run after her. He wanted to, but he knew that she was right. They needed to fix this car so they could get the hell out of there.
Bex ran after and searched for whatever animal there was. Malia ran past her and into the dust. Kira was close behind Bex. "Stay close to me. We can't split up. It'll just try to pick us off." Bex said as they went after Malia. They walked slowly down the path they saw Malia take. Kira kept her eyes behind them as they lead.
Eventually, they heard footsteps and Kira swung her blade in front, right before she saw it was Malia. "It's me! It's me." Malia said before she could swing the blade.
"What's out there? What did you see?"
"I don't know, but it's big and fast." She held her side in pain as she whispered. "And it cuts deep."
The girls all heard another thud. "Go," Bex pulled Malia to Kira as she looked behind them. They hurried back to the car to find that it was started. Stiles got in the driver's seat as soon as he saw them coming.. "Finally, something right. Get in the car." She opened the door for Kira and Malia to climb in back first.
As soon as they were back on the open road, Stiles turned on her. "You! You don't do that again! Ever again!" Stiles said suddenly to Bex as he glanced over at her.
"What? What are you talking about?"
"You can't do that, you can't just run off like that again. We lost too many people, Bex and don't think that I want you to be next." Stiles looked out the window. She hadn't realized how upset he truly was.
"I'm sorry." She apologized, taking his hand. He squeezed her hand between his. She often forgot how much Stiles cared about her. He was upset enough she never came to him after she killed someone, he felt like she was getting farther and farther away.
Lydia broke the awkward silence looking at the deep cut that Malia had gotten. "That doesn't look so good."
"It's okay." Malia shrugged it off.
"Are you sure? It looks deep." Kira was concerned as always.
Malia nodded. "Yeah, I could feel it healing."
"You guys didn't see anything?" Lydia asked looking at the girls.
"Barely. It had a strong scent though."
Stiles perked up, curiously. "Like what?"
"Like death."
"Reassuring." Lydia sighed leaning back against the seat.
They made it to the church soon after that. Stiles kept the car idling in front of the main building. The Jeep's light pointed directly at the entrance. "They're coming out." Bex could hear the footsteps of Scott and Braedon, as well as them dragging a third person who she hoped to be Derek. They all hurried out of the car as they saw them coming into their sights.
Most of them stopped in shock as they saw the person who they were carrying. Everyone but Kira understood the need to take in this new predicament. It changed everything. "Is that him? Is that Derek?" Malia questioned the stunned Stiles.
"Uh, sort of." Stiles said as the now teenage Derek Hale looked up at these group of teenagers, unrecognizable to him.
