Author's note: Hey guys! Wow, it's been a whole year since I last updated. I am so sorry… I promise to try my best to update sooner. This story is not dead, but it might end soon. Thank you all for your unwavering support! I hope you enjoy this little idea I had when I read somewhere that Hiccstrid may kiss on the battlefield. If you haven't watched RTTE yet, turn back now because there are major spoilers up ahead!

Disclaimer: HTTYD and its characters all belong to Dreamworks and Cressida Cowell.

Fire

"Fire!"

Explosions all over the Edge were heard as Hiccup and his friends tried their best to defend their base. It had been an ambush, dead in the night when they were all asleep. Viggo has been playing dirty lately, sneak attacks, ambushes, kidnapping… Hiccup has had enough.

"You know very well it's you who I want, Hiccup." Viggo taunted. "Surrender yourself and all of this will stop."

"Never! Attack!" The twins yelled before Hiccup could even answer. Toothless swooped in after Barf and Belch, narrowly missing a flying bola.

"We had an agreement, Hiccup." Viggo called. "We had a deal—"

"A deal I never agreed to." Hiccup retorted. Toothless fired at an arrow.

"And for what?" Viggo sneered. "You can't keep this up forever. You can't afford to go into war with me, Hiccup. I have your base pinned down, I have Berk's gold, and I have the Dragon Eye."

Hiccup let out a frustrated sigh as he looked around. The Edge was barely standing. The twins were trying their best to defend from the air, Fishlegs and Meatlug were fending of soldiers from their side, but more seem to be coming. Snotlout and Hookfang seemed to be creating a firewall with Nightmare gel, but with their limited supply, it'll be a miracle to cover the whole Island. Astrid and Heather were alternating between beating up Viggo's men and setting up traps.

Hiccup looked beyond, dozens of ships cornered the Edge and more seemed to be coming. He had already sent a terrible terror towards Berk, but even if reinforcements do come, it'll be too late.

They were trapped.

He heard Viggo chuckle.

"You seem troubled, Hiccup. Well, who wouldn't be? You have no more weapons, no more resources or back up… I should just finish you here right now."

Ryker pointed his sword at Hiccup and a dozen men with arrows aimed at him. Hiccup heard Astrid scream his name somewhere back at the Edge, but she seemed so far away. Viggo smirked.

"But of course, as I said several times before, I'm a business man. I'd rather negotiate than fight. Why waste resources when you can just come up with a better deal? Therefore Hiccup, I am giving you one last chance to surrender."

"You're joking, right?"

"Oh, I am perfectly serious." Viggo signalled his men to lower their arrows. "One last chance, Hiccup. One last chance to save the Edge, Berk, and your friends from a war with me. You know very well what my men and I can do, and frankly, you don't have much of a choice."

Viggo gestured towards the nearly torn down Edge. All his friends seem to have gotten on their dragons and are now trying their best to keep Viggo's men from nearing the vicinity of the dome. If they reach that area, it'll be harder to defend. They'll be finished.

"I'm looking forward to your decision, my dear friend." Viggo smirked. "I'm giving you until dawn."

"Hiccup, you can't do this." Astrid said. "You can't give yourself up."

After that conversation with Viggo, Hiccup urged Toothless towards the Edge. It was a momentary ceasefire, just until dawn. The gang all gathered inside the dome to discuss Viggo's proposal and Hiccup's head seemed to ache more as the seconds go by. They had been fighting for most of the night and arguing about what to do for the rest, it was nearly dawn now and they didn't have much time.

"Astrid's right, Hiccup." Fishlegs stated. "Can't we at least wait until reinforcements arrive? We can still stall them."

"Yeah! I mean, we can always rebuild the Edge. Sure, it'll take some work because it looks like it's gonna collapse soon, but it's not worth giving yourself up!" Snotlout cried.

"Guys, I know you all mean well." Hiccup began. "But even when the reinforcements arrive, even when we successfully defend the Edge, even when we rebuild it again, Viggo is going to come back. He is going to wage war against Berk."

"I saw at least a few dozen ships out there, even more are coming right now. I can't endanger all of you anymore. I can't endanger Berk."

"Hiccup, that's why we're here," Astrid placed a hand on his shoulder. "We're in this together. We're certainly not—"

"Astrid, we're trapped!" Hiccup yelled. "Can't you see? Viggo has us pinned down. He's threatening not only us, but the whole of Berk too. He knows we're out of supplies and he has all of Berk's gold. He has the Dragon Eye too… we can't win this time."

"Not with that attitude." Astrid grumbled. "We just have to think of a way, Hiccup we can do this—"

"No, we can't."

"Hiccup—"

"It's over."

Toothless gave a low croon as Hiccup adjusted the new tail on Toothless. It was similar to the one Hiccup had made during their first Snoggletog with the dragons all those years ago. He planned on having Toothless fly away once he gave himself up, but that's going to be a challenge since the dragon was extremely overprotective and loyal. Dawn was almost here and he could see Viggo's men preparing new weapons in case Hiccup would reject his offer.

"I know, bud." Hiccup whispered as he tightened the strap. "I know… it's going to be okay—"

"Will it?"

Hiccup sighed as he turned towards Astrid and the rest of his friends. They're all giving him pleading looks and it was getting harder for him to leave.

"Come on, Hiccup," Ruffnut began. "Don't do this."

"Yeah… we can still find another way out of this." Tuffnut said, beside him, Chicken gave low cluck.

"Don't sacrifice yourself, Hiccup." Heather pleaded. "We don't need a hero—"

"We need you." Astrid took a step closer to him. "We all need you. Your father… He'd be devastated. You're his heir, his son. He needs you. Berk needs you…"

She placed a hand against his cheek. "I… need you." She whispered. Hiccup's eyes widened ever so slightly as he brought his hand to hers. The rest of the gang were watching them with unreadable expressions on their faces.

"Please, don't do this, Hiccup." Astrid whispered. "Don't go."

Hiccup tried for a smile. "Oh Astrid, it's not like he's going to kill me." Hiccup took both of her hands in his. "You know they can't handle all of this."

"How do you know that?!" she yelled, frustrated. "Viggo has done terrible stuff. Remember the Scourge? He set that trap for me on purpose. He almost had me killed! It's most likely that he'll do the same to you!"

"Astrid—"

"Don't go, PLEASE, Hiccup…"

Hiccup felt the early rays of the sun hit his neck as it rose steadily from the horizon. He looked over and saw some figures flying towards the Edge, no doubt it was the reinforcements they called. He looked down and saw that the number of Viggo's ships had doubled, his father and the rest of the riders with him would have a hard time getting past… especially with the poisoned arrows.

"Hiccup!" Viggo called. "Time's up!"

"Hiccup…" Astrid said alarmed. "Don't."

Hiccup looked at her, eyes wide with fear. "I have to."

Then, he kissed her. In front of the riders, in front of Viggo, and in front of his whole armada, Hiccup didn't care. He wanted to at least let Astrid know how he felt before he sacrificed himself. She had to at least know.

He pulled away after a moment and hopped unto Toothless and they were in the air. He heard Astrid and the rest of his friends yell before he heard the sound of them mounting their dragons. He turned Toothless around before urging him to blast the ground just in front of them.

"DO NOT FOLLOW ME, UNDERSTAND?!" He yelled at them, eyes locking with Astrid's. "THAT IS AN ORDER."

He then urged Toothless towards Viggo's ship. His dad and the auxiliary riders were getting close now, and Viggo's men were preparing their arrows. There were also canons positioned their way from every ship. It was a trap and Hiccup knew it. He had to do this, he had to save his father, his friends, Berk…

He looked down at Toothless and gave him a scratch on the head as they slowly descended unto Viggo's ship. He had to protect Toothless.

Hiccup climbed off Toothless as soon as they landed. He glared at the rest of the crew then at Viggo, silently letting him know that he was not going down without a fight. Toothless gave a menacing growl as Hiccup walked over to Viggo.

"If I accept your offer," Hiccup began. "Will you leave Berk, my friends, and the Edge alone?"

Viggo smirked. "Of course, Hiccup. You have my word."

"How will I know you won't go back on your word?"

"Honestly Hiccup, I'm hurt." Viggo taunted. "Like I told you, I'm a man of my word. A deal is a deal. You surrender and I leave Berk and the Edge and all its inhabitants alone. Unless of course, you're having second thoughts…"

Hiccup looked over to the horizon, his father was close now, and Viggo's men were ready to fire. They won't survive this.

"The choice is yours, Hiccup."

With the sun now shining, Hiccup could see just how destroyed the Edge was, almost reduced to ruin. All their hard work… gone. All his friends were mounted on their dragons and were flying towards him, only stopping at a safe distance. Toothless growled when Viggo placed a hand on Hiccup's shoulder.

"Well?"

"SON!" Stoick yelled as he and Skullcrusher began to swoop in. Viggo's men let lose their arrows and Stoick and the rest of his riders narrowly missed them all. Another wave was coming, and this time, they were aimed towards his friends.

"Alright!" Hiccup declared. Viggo smirked.

"You accept?" he said as he held out a hand. Hiccup hesitated before taking the man's hand in his.

"Yes. I accept your terms." Hiccup took a deep breath. "I surrender."

Hiccup took one last glance at his father, the Edge, and his friends. He looked up at Astrid, who was trying her best to get close, but the wave of arrows were preventing her or any of the riders to do so. She frantically shook her head, eyes wide with fear.

Hiccup locked eyes with Viggo.

"You win."

Whew, that was actually fun to write. I'm so sorry for having neglected this story for so long. I just wanted to say thank you all for your unwavering support and kindness. To be honest, I actually DON'T want this to happen on the next season of RTTE... I'd cry if that happens... Anyway, I apologize too if any of the characters seem a bit OOC... especially Viggo. I did try my best with him. Tell me what you guys think and again I am so sorry!

P.S. I'm excited for season 4! Let's hang on a bit longer!
