Fire Starters
Chapter 26
Poor Hara was getting a headache, though she felt less nuaseus the yelling surrounding her now was making her head scream in protest. Finally having enough she jumped out of her chair beside Mikoto.
"SHUT UP!" She yelled, instantly silencing the room. But why was there yelling? An easy answer.
After Munakata had dropped the news about her father and Hara saying that they should visit him, the room had erupted. Munakata had been ushered out as chaos ensued. Many had been angry over the knowledge of an unknown man trying to take away their young prince and princess. Others yelled out ideas on how to get back or make a lasting impression on the potential kidnapper. And as Hara listened, her patience wore thinner and having enough she had yelled as loud as she could. Sitting back down, she composed herself and rubbed at her temples.
"Now," she said in frustration. "We have much to discuss. But first things first, no one but myself and Mikoto are going." At that more yelling erupted though it was quickly silenced by a glare from Mikoto. "Second, you are all ordered to stand by if in the case a fight does break out. I leave the placement and security of our children to Izumo and Tatara. I also ensure the future orders to you two." They nodded in acknowledgement and more stood up straight to listen further.
"It is possible that my father may back off at just the sight of Mikoto. And I know his help will back off at the sight of his power. I hope that a display of his powers will not be necessary, but it is still a very real possibility. On that note, there is one other thing." Looking at Mikoto he nodded gently at her. "The reason I became suck this morning, is because I am, once again, pregnant." Everything was silent a moment before cheers suddenly broke out.
Tatara ran up to her hugging her tightly, chanting 'you're pregnant! you're pregnant!' again and again. Key was standing on his stool yelling in excitement over being a big brother as Anna sat in silence with a look of wonderment on her face. She ran up to Hara and pulled out line of her red marbles staring intently at her stomach. A soft smile slowly spread across her lips before she put away her marble and jumped into Hara's arms. Mikoto quickly grabbed Anna from Hara's arms.
"You have to be careful Anna," he said. "Hara is fragile right now. If she hurts herself or lifts something to heavy it could hurt the baby." Anna nodded in understanding and gave a sad frown. "Don't worry, she can hold you again sooner than you think." She nodded again and laid her head on his shoulder watching Key and Tatara dance around the room. Mikoto kissed Hara's head with a smile that she returned.
"Also," Mikoto called over the rukus. "We're moving. With the new baby we need more room. Noit to mention a real home. A place where we can raise the kids in a more normal environment." They all nodded as Kamamoto, now skinny, pulled out the newspaper and flipped to a section.
"You can find lots of houses for rent or sale in the paper. Look, a three bedroom, one bathroom, single family home. $250,000 for sale." He handed the paper to the pair who looked at it.
"That's also where you come in. While we're gone we want you to go house hunting for us. We want some place with plenty of room and yard big enough for the kids. We also want it close to the city. Suburbs is an absolute no." Hara nodded in agreement.
"We're leaving on the first flight to France. Izumo, if you-" Izumo pulled out his phone before she could finish making her smile. "Yata," said boy looked up quickly. "I need you to stay out of trouble. With what's going on you might have to work with Scepter4 and I need you on your best behavior." Though he gave a look of disgust, he nodded.
"I'll try." She gave him a peck to the top of his head making the boy blush.
Johnathan Monet sat at a long grand table, the other seats filled by fellow government agency members, judges, and even the police chief. They sat together laughing and eating when the door to the dining hall burst open in a flurry of splintered wood. Voices yelling in the halls as a pair of calm steps made their way into the room. Johnathan stood abruptly with a look of shock that dissolved into pure astonishment.
"You?! Why are you here?!" Hara and Mikoto walked into the hall with smug smiles.
"Hello father." Hara said stopping just a few feet from the older man. "I heard you found me and my kids and that you are trying to take them away from me. Now tell me, why do you want them?" Her father gave a curt laugh and a shrug.
"Are you really asking me that?" He said with a smile. "It should b obvious. You both are unfit parents. Not to mention your husband harbored a runaway for several years. But seeing as it's too late to do anything about that, no point in really mentioning it. Although, housing my two grandchildren in a bar is something I can mention." Hara smiled gently, too gently.
"My husband's brother owns the bar and my husband helps run it. We are only there in the early mornings to help clean and set up and at night to clean up. My daughter helps to cook and dust and my son helps wash dishes and mop. The time in between my children are at our apartment being homeschooled and playing. They do not live at the bar. Not that it matters anyways seeing as Japanese law would not make such a living situation illegal unless the children were in constant physical danger."
"You're right, Mina. But what about your husband being a drug running gang leader?" Mikoto laughed.
"If that were true, why am I here? If I was that kind of person, I could have just made you disappear instead." Jonathan's smile fell away and he scowled. "What? Didn't like that fact?" Hara took her husband's hand and smiled at him.
"Mikoto doesn't have that kind of power. He has a greater power than that. Mikoto was appointed by the Japanese government to regulate and control the underground. They know that while the underground is a nuisance, it would be detrimental to the economy if it completely disappeared. So Mikoto's job is to take down the guys who commit the more serious crimes and regulate the rest." The older Monet gave a grimace.
"I doubt that. I've spoken to many in your government and your husband is a real nuisance. They don't like him, never did. Always a problem, even as a child." Hara snorted.
"They might not have loved him, but they loved his grandfather. General in the Japanese armed forces and former Prime Minister Nijaku Suoh. A man who still lives and has more resources than even you. So go ahead, try and take my kids. I dare you." He gave a smile in answer.
