"Let's get a dog." Jules suddenly exclaims one evening.
"A dog?" Sam repeats, looking up from the book he had been reading. Jules nods enthusiastically and moves closer to Sam, her head resting on his chest, just above his heart.
"Maybe a Labrador, although those do get quite big. Perhaps something smaller...I don't know, a chihuahua? But then again those are quite small... How about a terrier? Or maybe a..." Jules begins but gets cut off by Sam.
"Jules? Sweetheart, are you ok?" He asks and Jules nods looking up at Sam.
"Why?" She asks
"Well you've always told me that we're too busy to have a dog and that it would be too expensive, what changed your mind?"
"Well...I just... I mean... Jenny and Mia saw a puppy in the window of a pet store this morning.."
"And..." Sam prompts
"And they asked if we could get one..." Jules finishes, resting her head against Sam's chest once more. "It's just...it's the kind of thing that my parents would never have done, get a dog I mean. Or any let for that matter. I remember my brothers and I use to beg my dad for a pet. We didn't care what kind of pet it was, but he always said no. Always."
"Well if you want to get a dog lets get a dog." Sam says tilting Jules' head up so she was looking at him.
"Really?" She asks and he nods and smiles down at her.
"Really." He repeats. "How about tomorrow morning?" Jules grins up at Sam before leaning up and kissing him quickly, throwing her arms around his neck and hugging him tightly.
"Thank you." She whispers into his shoulder.
"It's gotta be yoooooou!" Tori and Jenny shout as they sing along to the One Direction songs the way to the pet store, almost bursting Sam's eardrums in the process.
"As much as I love your singing girls, how about we turn the volume down a bit, daddy's getting a headache." Sammy mutters as Jules rubs his arm gently and smiles sympathetically.
"How about we turn the radio off for a while? We're almost there anyway." Jules asks, turning the radio off.
"Where we going mama?" Mia calls from the back of the car.
"You'll see." Jules replies turning to face the children.
"Mama!" Will shouts leaning forward in his car seat, arms outstretched.
"I'll give you a hug in a minute baby." She says taking one of his hands in hers as they pull into the car park.
"Doggy!" Will shouts pointing at the puppies as they enter the pet store.
"That's right, good boy!" Jules praises, setting him on the floor to toddle off in the direction of the dogs.
"Are we getting a doggy mama?" Mia asks and Jules nods.
"Yep! We can have whichever one you'd like." Jules explains
"What about this one?" Tori asks pointing to a Shih tzu "A sh-i-h t-z-u?" She stutters trying to spell out the name. "A what?" She asks looking up at Sam.
"A Shih tzu." Sam says slowly and she nods.
"Yeah, what daddy said."
"Cute!" Lucas says to Tori who nods.
"Can we get it?" Jenny asks
"Well, do you like it Mia?" Sam asks her and she nods enthusiastically."I would ask Will but it looks like he does." Sam says to Jules who chuckles as she watches Will try and get the puppy's attention.
"Doggy." He states turning to Sam, pointing to the puppy.
"Do you like him Will?" Sam asks and Will nods, bending down once more to look at the dog.
"What about Sadie?" Tori asks
"I'm sure she'll love him too." Jules says as Sam heads over to get one of the shop assistants.
"We just need to think of a name now." Jules says turning towards the children as they make their way home.
"Doggy." Will says pointing to Tori who had the new puppy on her lap.
"That's right, it's a doggy." Jules says. "What shall we call him?"
"Meow!" Shouts Lucas making Sam chuckle
"Meow is more of a cats name honey." Jules says softly. "But it's still a lovely name. Any other suggestions?"
"Princess." Mia suggests
"No Mia! It's a boy doggy!" Jenny says
"Oh. Prince!" She replies
"That's cute, don't you think?" Jules says
"But he can't just be called Prince mama." Tori says
"Why's that?" Jules asks
"No one calls a doggy just Prince! In all the princess films, the princes have two names. Like Prince Charming! So he has to have another name as well." She explains
"Why don't we just call him Prince Charming then?" Sam asks, earning him a light punch in the arm from Jules.
"Hush you!" She says before turning back to the children. "So what else do you want to call him?"
"Not Prince Charming daddy, that's already a Prince's name." Tori says and Jenny nods along.
"What about Billy? That's a cute name." Jules suggests earning nods from all the children.
"And we can call him just Billy for short." Sam adds
"Like me and Jenny and Mia and Will's names?" Tori asks and Jules nods. "Yes!"
"Well that was quick and easy." Jules says to Sam when they get home.
"Almost too quick and easy." Sam replies taking Sadie out of her car seat and placing her in her bouncer.
"Hmm...oh well. You have to admit, he is really cute."
"I have to agree with you there. Now which one of us is going to break it to the girls that Billy can't sleep in their beds?"
"You." Jules says quickly heading into towards the kitchen.
"Why me?" Sam asks
"I'm busy cooking dinner! Off you go!" She replies shutting the kitchen door behind her.
"Fine but you're training him!" Sam calls back, before turning and heading back into the living room.
