It's a been a few months. So I'm sorry. And I'm probably slightly rusty. Sorry bout that too.
Hopefully, you guys won't give me too much hate.
School, sports, and everything else has been a bitch lately. So hopefully, this is the start of more frequent updates.
Here we go!
"Kaera... Kaera, are you even listening?"
I blinked and my eyes looked towards Vilkas, an eyebrow raised. "Huh?"
He sighed, frustrated by my lack of listening skills. "You've acted strange since Winterhold. Something bugging you?"
I shook my head, looking around as we walked up to Whiterun. I felt oddly tired, despite sleeping most of the trip back. We ended up staying in Winterhold a little longer than expected, mostly because of a huge travel delay with the blizzards up there.
I smiled jokingly and said to Vilkas "Hopefully when we get up to Jorrvaskr, there won't be anyone waiting to attack us with problems."
Vilkas chuckled and answered "With your luck, you've just jinxed it."
I laughed, and soon we were walking up the steps of Jorrvaskr for the first time in a month and a half.
Finally, things might be going a little easier on us.
As soon as we entered, everyone glanced up from their mead. There was a moment of silence. And then, a bunch of cheers and laughs as everyone came to greet us.
"Welcome home, Harbinger!"
"Hey Kaera! Nice to see you back!"
"We've missed you two!"
We smiled and laughed, and soon the alcohol was being passed around, and the hall was filled with laughter. Farkas grinned broadly and handed me a mug full of ale. I glanced down at it, and got a funny feeling in my stomach. I smiled politely, but set my mug down after he looked away.
"Hey, you gonna *hic* drink that?"
I giggled and shook my head, pushing it to a begging Torvar. He sent a lopsided smile my way as he downed the ale. I yawned slightly. I was still really tired. While no one was looking, I slipped away to my room, deciding to lay down for a little bit.
Vilkas laughed heartily as his brother told him of everything he missed. He'd missed his home dearly while in Winterhold, although Kaera had kept him busy enough on the cold nights in the inn.
He smirked slightly at the thought, and his brother chuckled, asking "What's that face for?"
Vilkas smirked wider and wiggled his brows a little, saying "That's for me and me only."
Farkas laughed, and patted his brother on his back. "Enough said, right there."
The twins laughed, enjoying themselves. It'd been a long time since he'd gotten the chance to cut loose and enjoy himself with his brother and Shield-Siblings.
"Vilkas, tell us, what took you so long to get back?" Aela asked with an eyebrow.
Vilkas shrugged and replied "Blizzards mostly..." He grinned wolfishly and added "Mostly."
Aela rolled her eyes as the guys all hooted and hollered, cheering. Aela looked around and asked "Speaking of which, where is she?"
Vilkas noticed for the first time since getting back that she was no longer in the hall. "Hmm. Did she retire early?"
Vilkas wandered downstairs to check if she was in the room. He walked in and found her passed out in the bed. He smiled softly at her sleeping form. Her face was innocent and child-like. It made it him think back to when he carried her down here one night.
It feels like it was a lifetime ago.
He left her to sleep, heading back upstairs to join the others.
I woke up with a headache, and sat up in a groggy manner. Vilkas was sleeping next to me. I looked over at him, groaned, and my stomach flipped. I leaned over the side of the bed and threw up. Vilkas woke up and immediately pulled my hair back and asked if I was okay after I threw up.
"Yeah, I.. think so." I replied, feeling ill. He got out of bed and said as he left the room "I'll go get Tilma."
I nodded, lying back into bed. He returned quickly with Tilma, who helped clean up the vomit and started checking me for illness. She frowned slightly, and looked at Vilkas. He stood quietly in the corner, a crease setting between his brows.
"Vilkas, could you be a dear and leave the room for a moment?"
He frowned slightly, and was about to object before Tilma gave him a look. He sighed and nodded, leaving us alone.
She stared at the door for a few moments before saying "She's gonna be fine, Vilkas. Go upstairs."
He sighed, and I heard his footsteps retreat. She finally looked over at me and stared deeply into my eyes.
"Dear, when was your last cycle?"
I stared in confusion at her for a moment before saying hesitantly "Last month, why?"
She nodded and replied "Just curious dear. How long have you been sick?"
I shook my head, shrugging. "I just started to feel weird recently. I didn't even know I was ill before today. Maybe you should go get the priestess of Kyne."
She chuckled and said "No, I think you need a priest of Mara."
I blinked in confusion. "What?"
She smiled softly. "I'll send word for the priestess though. She should be able to tell."
I said quickly "Wait, what-"
"Don't worry; you'll be fine." She laughed and left me alone. I frowned, trying to make sense of what she meant.
Vilkas stood upstairs with his brother, tapping his foot impatiently. "Brother, don't worry so much. She's strong."
Vilkas nodded, but still fidgeted uncomfortably. The priestess had shown up almost an hour ago, and he'd had no word on Kaera. The sound of the door opening perked him up, and he watched intently as the priestess walked up the stairs, and signalled him to come over.
He strided slightly faster than normal, saying as he approached "So, what illness has befallen her?"
The priestess shook her head. "Not an illness."
"What then?"
"A gift."
Vilkas frowned, baffled by the answer. "How is vomiting a gift?" He asked.
She stood there for a few moments, staring at him. Finally, she answered "Why don't you go speak to her."
He frowned at her avoiding the question, but walked down the stairs and towards their room. So many thoughts went through his head, he couldn't even process what was happening. He walked through the first door and paused, staring at the second one, which was closed. He stopped in front of him, his hand slowly reaching the handle.
Taking a deep breath in and out, he stepped in, seeing his wife sitting quietly with her eyes closed. He sat down on the bed by her feet, grabbing her hand and squeezing it tentatively. Her amber brown eyes opened and stared at him with an odd gleam to them.
"Kaera, are you okay?"
She just looked at him with those eyes. He grew slightly worried. "Kaera, don't worry; I can take it."
She shook her head, her brows creasing. Tears rolled down her face. Vilkas immediately brought his hand to her cheeks and wiped the tears away with his thumb. His heart was throbbing painfully in his chest.
What could possibly be causing this kind of reaction?
"Vilkas... Vilkas.." She stuttered out, unable to form the words. "What is it, love?" He asked, his concern growing with every passing second. His heart yearned to make her feel safe, and to stop the tears. Her eyes pierced right through him, the strength of her emotions ever disturbing the beast within, its whine ringing in his ears.
"Vilkas.."
"Yes, love?" His name on her lips sounded so strange to him, ringing out like bells.
"I'm pregnant."
I don't even know where this came from but it did.
Well... Now what...
I wonder where this is going to take the story.
Hopefully somewhere. And I hope you all enjoy this chapter.
