I don't own Silverwing or Guardians of Ga'Hoole. I only own this story and the characters not in the books.
Everyone was flying through the mountains. Eclipse shivered under the cold. His temper was even worse when it was cold and he had to carry his wounded sister on his back while his wings were freezing. Those conditions, along with the fact that he was starving, only made Eclipse more irritable than he normally was.
"I hate the cold. That Silverwing doesn't even know where he's going. What bat in their right mind would migrate over a mountain? He's going to get us all killed." bitterly complained Eclipse.
Aurora dug her claws into her elder brother's fur. Eclipse cringed at the extra pressure Aurora put on his back.
"What are you doing Aurora? Do you want me to drop you?" furiously asked Eclipse.
"What I want, Eclipse, is for you to stop complaining. We all know you hate the cold. Just quit your complaining and stop acting like a newborn. You're a warrior of the Black Aura Clan. I know you were taught better than this." scolded Aurora.
Eclipse wished with all his might that he had the strength to lash back at his sister, but he was too cold to come up with any comeback, so he just stayed quiet. But if they were out in the cold any longer... Eclipse didn't know what he would do.
After what felt like thousands and thousands of wingbeats, the owls and the bats came upon an old human roost. They entered the human roost through the small smoke tower on top of the human roost. Everyone flew down the smoke tower (though some of the larger owls, like Twilight, had a hard time getting down) and they were in the human roost.
The human roost was a lot dryer and warmer than it was outside so everyone decided to stay until the snow storm settled down outside. Even though they were all inside, something just didn't feel right about the human roost. Shade, Marina, and the Silverwing siblings went to investigate while the owls all stayed in hiding the best they could.
When the five young bats heard familiar sounds, they all looked up. There were dozens, perhaps hundreds, of bats overhead. They were of all type, gender, and age, but they all had one thing in common.
Marina looked down at her wrist then she looked at all the other bats.
"They're all banded." gasped Marina.
More and more bats flew closer and closer to the five strange newcomers. One female bat flew down and landed near the five youngsters. All the young bats got a good look at the female wanting to greet them.
They could tell it was a Brightwing about a few years older than Eclipse. The female Brightwing had a dark reddish brown body, red chest fur, and wile red fur on the top of her head. There was a band on one of her wings, which Shade, Marina, and the Starwings could easily see.
"My name's Betty. What's your name?" asked Betty.
"My name's Marina. This is Shade. These three are Dusk, Aurora, and Eclipse, they're all siblings. Hey, you're a Brightwing." introduced Marina.
"They use to call me Penelope." told Betty.
Marina was shocked. She seemed as though she once knew the strange Brightwing in front of her.
"Penelope Brightwing, you're from my colony! The elders told us you were dead. That your band was bad luck." recalled Marina.
"Your elders lied." said a deep male voice.
Everyone looked up and saw a strong male bat with a grayish tan body and fur and extremely long ears. None of the young bats thought they had seen anything like the male bat staring down at them before.
Betty put a wing around Marina. She gently smiled as she looked up at the older male bat.
"This is Scirocco. He's been given the secret wisdom of the bands." quietly told Betty.
Shade got closer to the bat called Scirocco. Scirocco flew right passed the Silverwing and landed beside Marina. He looked at Marina's band. He also noticed that Aurora had a band too.
"Yes, very nice. And it's new." noticed Scirocco.
"The humans banded me in the spring." told Marina.
Shade was a bit jealous that Marina was getting all of the attention.
"It's kind of funny how you all ended up here together." assumed Shade.
Scirocco glanced at the Silverwing with a bored and dull gaze.
"We bats have been given a very special gift, our bands. Isn't that right Marina?" asked Scirocco.
Marina remembered all that happened since she met Shade and what her colony had said about her band before she was banished.
"I use to think my band was special but then we met these giant southern bats." began Marina.
Shade interrupted Marina before she could continue telling the colony of banded bats about Goth and Throbb.
"Cannibals from the jungle. They have bands too." interrupted Shade.
Screeches and whispers arose throughout the banded colony. Sirocco remained calm and showed no emotion.
"But they have bands like these?" asked Sirocco.
Sirocco showed off his band. Dusk spoke before either of his siblings or friends had the chance.
"They don't have bands like yours. But neither does my sister. Bands aren't that big of a deal. Lots of bats have bands where we come from. We get them from the ow..." answered Dusk.
Aurora and Eclipse pulled Dusk to the side before he could give away to much information. Eclipse glared at his little brother, trying his best to keep his temper under control.
"We can't tell anyone about where we come from Dusk. You should know better than anyone why the Clans kept themselves isolated for this long. You're and Oracle apprentice. Use your head." quietly growled Eclipse.
Aurora smacked her brother with her good wing. Eclipse shook his head as he glanced back at his sister.
"Even when you are trying to be calm you lose your temper. Just let me handle this Eclipse. You might be a good warrior and will make a great chief of our Clan, but handling things quietly is not your strong suit. Dusk knows now that we shouldn't tell anything else about our homeland and he won't say anything else. Will you Dusk?" calmly said Aurora.
Dusk nodded and the three Starwings went back to the others. Sirocco had used the time the Starwings had been talking to think about what he had been told.
"Then those bands are not part of the great plan." simply said Sirocco.
"What plan?" questioned Marina.
"All in good time Marina." replied Sirocco.
"If there's a plan tell me, please." politely asked Marina.
Sirocco smiled at the young Brightwing. He looked over at Betty. The Brightwing nodded and turned to the younger Brightwing from her old colony.
"The humans banded us as part of Nocturna's promise to bring back the light. We're going to reclaim the day as humans." explained Betty.
Sorry about the late update. I've been a bit busy lately. Comment if you like the story and comment on my other stories as well.
