This Chapter is a fun one. If you know/like Doctor Who you will know what the group is saying. If you don't you will know how Tony and Bucky feel.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Valerie asked James. "What if they don't like me?"
"You are making it sound like they are going to bite you. You'll be fine."
"I heard a rumor at SHIELD that Agent Romanoff wasn't above biting."
"Well… she does seem to take a little longer than most for her to warm up to people. She hated me until she knew I was completely stable."
"Not helping James."
"I'm sorry." James placed an arm around his girlfriend's shoulders and brought her closer.
"You friends are kind of intimidating. They saved the world."
"Nathan seems fine." James said off hand and watched the two-year-old boy peacefully playing with a Bucky Bear. Valerie had found it one day, citing it was hilarious and a child must have.
"He's two. He doesn't know better. Plus you told him there would be another kid around his age." Valerie frowned. "Lucky kid."
"You are being over dramatic. They are harmless."
"You are calling your super soldier best friend, two master assassins, a Norse god, a man that turns into a Hulk, Iron Man and his genius daughter harmless. That is not harmless."
"They are. If anything you will find they are highly amusing. I do."
"Well, that doesn't fully comfort me."
James gave a light laugh. "Either way everyone wants to meet you. And yeah… maybe I want to show you and Nathan off a bit. I like you guys enough."
"So, I guess I will just… have to jump in?"
"Yeah, you got to do it. I'm going to get Nathan ready to go." James patted Valerie on the head. Causing the girl to laugh.
"Are they on their way yet?" I groaned impatiently as I carried Lily into the living room at the mansion.
"Bucky told me they are on their way about two minutes there go." Steve looked towards me with a smile growing on his face.
"What's with the face Cap?" Natasha looked at him with a smirk.
"What do you mean what's with my face?" Steve frowned.
"You had a face a minute ago. A happy face." I pointed to Steve as I repositioned Lily on my hip.
"Cappy looked happy." Lily nodded in agreement.
"Because you are so cute miss Lily." Steve looked to the toddler in my arms. Lily instantly reached for him, loving any sort of attention she could receive.
I pass Lily over to Steve who takes her happily.
"Are you excited to meet a new friend?" Steve asks the little girl in reference to Bucky's girlfriend's son.
Lily just stared at Steve with a very confused face.
"Lily hasn't ever really been around other kids before. I don't know if she understands the concept of friends." I shake my head as I sit beside the pair.
"I am sure the child understands friends. Its friendship she doesn't understand." Natasha believed.
"Another one? Another friend?" Lily asked clearly thinking.
"Yes. Another friend is coming over Lily. Are you going to be nice?" I ask.
Lily shrugged. "I dunno."
Natasha smirked at the child. "Lily takes after Stark, likes to be the only one with attention."
Then JARVIS announced that Bucky had arrived.
"Hey guys." Bucky entered carrying a dark haired little boy and a tall light haired woman beside him.
"Hi James. And you must be Valerie and Nathan. I'm Alyssa. It's lovely to meet you." I greet.
"Nice to meet you as well." Valerie smiled as we shook hands.
"Lily come here sweetie." I reach for my sister. Lily timidly comes to my side. Bucky placed Nathan down on the ground. The two toddlers stood and stared at each other. Pepper had entered the room and watched the exchange.
Valerie bent down to the same level of the kids. "Nathan, this is Lily. Lily this is Nathan. Do you want to say hello honey?" Valerie asked the little boy.
Nathan waved at Lily. "Hi." he looked towards Lily with a small smile.
Lily looked at Nathan in a quizzical manner, like she was examining him.
"Do you like puppies?" Nathan asked Lily.
Lily nodded, still examining the poor boy.
"I have stuffed puppies. Want to play?" Lily then finally asked. Nathan nodded.
"I show you where they are." Lily smiled a toothy grin and grabbed Nathan's hand as she pulled him to the stairs.
"That went better than I thought." Pepper said to make her presence known. "Hi, I'm Pepper, Lily's mom."
"Very well, I'd say. Valerie. Nathan's mom." The two women introduced themselves.
Eventually everyone made his or her way to meeting the girlfriend of Bucky Barnes.
Although Tony of course kept being watchful of Lily's interactions with Nathan.
"Dad stop it. Lily's two not sixteen! The worse thing that could happen up there is they fight over a stuffed animal!" I roll my eyes.
"You better hope that's the worse that happens…" Tony grumbled to himself. Pepper and I both heard and Tony received two whacks on the back of the head.
"Was he like this when you were growing up?" Valerie asked me.
"I'm sure if he knew I was his kid he would have been. Actually… he still is pretty terrible." I smile.
"You know very well I wish I knew. But I cannot go back in time to fix it so I got to make up for it now." Tony shrugged.
"Not unless you find a TARDIS." Valerie smiles.
"You're a Doctor Who fan?" I look at Valerie curiously.
"Yeah, it's the only show I let myself keep up with. Most of the time I'm too busy to watch TV. Why? Do you watch as well?"
I nod. "Clint and I both do. When it's on we both watch it together while Steve and Natasha go and spar with one another."
"James leaves when I watch it too. He can't wrap his head around the mythology behind it."
"Neither could Steve. But his face got all funny and cute when he tried."
"James just asks what everything is or what everything does. He also asks why the Doctor doesn't just 'zap everyone with the green light thingy!'" Valerie laughed.
"Its an honest question Val!" Bucky defended.
"Except it is not a 'green light thingy' James. It's something called a 'Sonic Screwdriver' and there is a difference. Trust me. Alyssa and Clint correct me all the time." Steve groaned at the fact.
"At least you call it by the right name now!" Clint patted Steve on the back.
"Whoopee." Steve rolled his eyes sarcastically. Clearly I am rubbing off on him.
"Wait… what the hell is a TARDIS? And is it an actual thing?" Tony asked confused.
"It's fiction Tony. It's an acronym like JARVIS or SHIELD. It stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space. It looks like a British police box. Larger on the inside." Bruce explained. Clint and I looked at the physicist stunned.
"Banner… you watch Doctor Who?" Clint asked.
"What makes you think that? I could have googled that." Bruce counter asked.
"But you didn't. Not right now anyway." I point out.
"I… may have caught a few episodes in my down time." Bruce shrugged.
"Who was your first then?" Valerie asked raising an eyebrow.
"James, your girlfriend is more forward than I am." Tony chuckled.
"I'm talking doctors you idiot, get your mind out of the gutter." Valerie rolled her eyes.
"I like her. We should keep her. James you need to keep her." I tell the dark haired super soldier with a smirk.
"My mind is the gutter kid." Tony winked. Everyone rolled their eyes at the man I call my father.
"My first was the sixth doctor I believe. Colin Baker. You?" Bruce asked Valerie.
"Ninth. Christopher Eccleston." Valerie smiled. "So you are obviously a longtime fan." She looked at Banner.
"And Clint and me are clearly the rookies." I note. "My first Doctor was the tenth and I only got Clint into it about two years ago."
"I still understand nothing!" Tony looked frustrated that for once there was something he didn't understand.
"Get in line Stark." Bucky sighed as the four Whovians got into an in-depth conversation about Daleks.
During dinner, the two kids were still getting along fantastically. Pepper was quite pleased that the two had formed a kinship. Tony… not so much.
"This is why I said to homeschool Lily, Pep."
"What are you talking about Tony? They are getting along." Pepper rolled her eyes.
"Exactly!" Tony exclaimed loudly. "This…" Tony pointed to Lily and Nathan at the toddler table. "Could turn into that!" Tony then pointed to Steve and I.
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?" I ask giving my dad a glare.
"Just a point. I've heard the stories about Barnes back in the day. Nathan could be learning how to be a flirt, just like him!"
"Says the playboy!" Bucky scoffed.
"Yes, the former playboy! I know how men act. Except Capsicle, he is still at least scared of me."
I facepalmed. The most disappointing part was it was kind of true.
"Nathan is two! You are just being you're drama queen self." Barton reminded Tony.
"Valerie I think our children should have play dates together more often." Pepper smiled.
"Agreed." Valerie smiled at the older woman.
"I am very pleased they get along. I was worried how Lily would do with other children. Someone doesn't like her having friends." Pepper looked towards Tony.
"I just want to keep Lily safe." Tony shrugged.
"From other kids? Sounds extreme." Bucky stated the obvious.
"Have you met Stark? All he does is over exaggerate." Natasha said.
"Wait… Alyssa, did Tony get this over protective with you and Steve?" Valerie asked.
"He still is. My dad will find any opportunity to try to scare or cause physical damage to Steve. The fact he actually can't really do the latter it never stops him from trying!" I sigh.
"It keeps him in line. And I have nothing against Nathan now, but if later that boy over steps I will not hesitate to act in the same fashion." Tony finalized.
"Dad, I swear to god that if you don't stop acting stupid over the fact Lily is making friends with Nathan, I will start making out with Steve." I threaten.
"Don't drag me into this!" Steve asked loudly.
"Please tell me you would not actually do that with all of us here." Clint asked hoping I was kidding.
"I will do what I have to Bird Brain." I give Clint a blank stare.
Clint just looked at me with an almost scared look on his face.
"Tony… don't risk it. Please for everyone's sanity, don't risk it." Clint pleaded.
"I don't know… I think it could be entertaining to see Steve finally get some action." Bucky gave a mischievous smirk.
"Jerk." Steve glared at his friend.
"Punk. Anyway, I am still trying to figure out how you got Alyssa knocked up. You even know what that involves? Is science that advanced now?" Bucky continued his smirk.
"Science is pretty advanced now a days… but the only science used was the normal one." I roll my eyes.
"DON'T WANT TO KNOW THAT!" Tony covered his ears. "Not in front of the children!" he continued.
"Stark… they left to go play again. They are not even in the room." Natasha informed the 'genius'.
"When did that happen?" Tony asked.
"Not even a minute ago. You were too busy going crazy over Alyssa to notice…" Bucky pointed out.
"I've never been the most observant." Tony shrugged.
"And you now realize my superpower. Make Tony insane and embarrass Steve. That's why I'm here." I smirk.
"See? They are all not so bad! They are the best entertainment." James looked at Valerie as they entered her apartment.
"They are really nice." Valerie said as she took Nathan from James arms to take the toddler to bed. "I don't know what you were so worried about."
"What I was worried about?!"
