The city of Oshehant was the greatest on the planet Virmok. Its actual origins were lost in the mists of time, but it was known to have stood 2805 years ago, when King Dogulu the Young had died attacking the city, his cousin Motulu the Peaceful had made peace with the city, and their two elected Kings Hespol Betshe and Fremis Gusjom. The elected Kings had come apparently from when there were two towns on either side of the river, which had joined forces into one force when they were threatened by other tribes. The city had eventually made war against the city of Uluhunt, in the time of Motulu's grandson Motulu the Last, 72 years later.
Archaeology suggested the city had once been two opposing towns, that had finally made peace and come together. Another story, encouraged in later years and by Nidotre's regime, was that two brothers had founded the city. However the trickery and lies of foreign tribes had driven them apart, before their descendants finally decided to bring the lands together.
The city had gone on, the times of Kings finally ending 2404 years ago, with the monarchy being dominated by two inter-marrying families keeping each in power, the Jighet and Keplo families, and marrying outwards to foreign tribes that had taken more power. Anger at these other tribes and monarchs who were not pure of Oshehant stock had led to the rebellion. Motul Jighet, married to Oslir-Keplo, had punished a man of the city who had slain an Eltory man for marrying his daughter, along with his daughter. When the man was executed, personally by Motul as no other man could be found, a mob slew him.
King Gusul Jighet led an army with the Eltory tribe, his wife's kin, to avenge his brother's death. However he was defeated and slew himself as the battle went against him and his son Ruspol was slain. The younger son Hespol Grand-Voice had joined the rebels of the west side, accounts differ whether he planned to overthrow his father or wanted to impose a new system. He ended up leaving the city under threat of exile due to fears he could keep the monarchy, such was his popularity among the common folk. Gusul's sister's husband King Oslit-Keplo had barricaded himself in his palace but was slain when his bodyguard turned against him on hearing what had happened.
The Empire spread across the land, subjugating the surrounding lands, and eventually ruling the entire peninsula. It then spread to dominance of the continent. However its antagonism towards other nations, and constant oppression led to a series of revolts, forcing it back into the peninsula, 1790 years ago. It recovered its force and made another attempt for dominance under a single ruler of the city, Oslit-Erogil the Bold, who defeated the enemies that sought to enter the peninsula in eight great battles, but holding power till his death 29 years later, during which he expanded the city and built new walls. Finally after 150 years of consolidation, they attacked outwards, again becoming a major power.
It had been only 1396 years ago that the Empire of Oshehant had fallen to Cedosh the Cruel, slain on his wedding night by his fifth wife Gursopyr, the niece of one of the Generals who had fallen defending the gates of Oshehant, taking the same poison as him. However the city was sacked, and thousands of its people slain.
Eventually the nation of Eftodeos had risen round Oshehant, under Eftos Grand-Sword, 218 years after the fall. A period of fighting erupted after the death of Eftos' great-great-grandson without an heir, but less then a century later the lands were unified, becoming an integral part in the forming of the Coalition of Lands a century later. Eventually the Coalition of Lands worked on a mutual space mission.
There was a period of spreading across the star system, but dislike of aliens coming to their world led to war with a neighboring world, ending with the defeat of Virmok, and the loss of their colonies. However Eftodeos had become the driving force in the Grand Virmok Order 619 years ago. 519 years ago, it had moved in location to Oshehant. For those years Oshehant became important on a level beyond its planet, as the Virmokians began to leap across the planets. Now it was one of the most important cities in the Quadrant, as the Virmokians had begun rule of a mighty Empire.
The old city, built before the Fall of the Empire, comprised less then an eighth of Oshehant, but was the center of power, with the main buildings built there. The area that led to the outside was known as Gurondtre's Gate. The new city was a haphazard mish-mash of streets, expanding with a growing population. A defining feature was a monument to Gursopyr, built where she had allegedly slain her husband, though scholars still disputed the exact location, or even whether it had been between the river Simmeris and the Grey Strong-Stone of the broken skulls. Yet this new city still covered not even a third of the ground the whole city covered by now. More overcrowding led to the city growing further, now covering most of the region, nearly all the peninsula was covered in cities by now.
However the current regime had only taken power on the elections celebrating 2300 years since the end of elective Kings, an election swept in by anger at the millions of people from other worlds that came to the planet. On their election they had restated the law saying that only those of true blood were allowed inside Oshehant. The true extent of their power by military force only became apparent 68 years ago, its leader ruling for 19 years. He was succeeded by another General, who didn't even call an election, ruling for 22 years. Another General ruled after that, an elderly man, and then Nidotre had risen to power, a mere 14 years ago.
The great theater of Nidotre towered over the city, constructed to celebrate 10 years of rule. It could seat a million people and a statue had been constructed for each of the worlds that Nidotre had conquered. There were rumors that a statue was already being constructed for Jempewol.
There was a wheezing, groaning sound and a blue box appeared. Out stepped a tall man, with a large nose, grey hair, and a jacket with frills. Behind him was a woman wearing a black uniform. "Well Sara, this is the place" said the Doctor. He looked round. "The main center of the Virmok Empire."
