Chapter 24 -

Last Time on HPATEOTA (Long Acronym I know)

"The gloves are off, and there is no one to help you"

5th of July 1997

In a Forest

Rural Area of Tokyo

Japan

At those words, Angela inwardly cowered in fear whilst trying her best to maintain her calm visage 'If he could beat me when he's not serious then what would happen to me if he's serious' she thought with worry as she gazed upon her opponent's hooded body, watching him as he casually spun around his sais on his hands. And then he disappeared, kicking her as he came closer, she flew off but she managed to regain her footing and her eyes narrowed as she took out a small pen and uncapped it. A blinding light surrounded her the pen and as it disappeared a bo staff appeared in it's place.

She spun it experimentally for a moment, before she swung it at her opponent, although the hooded figure (You know what? Let's just call him HF in this scene) had the slight upperhand due to his pair of sais that gave him a chance to defen and attack at the same time, her bo staff's length and weight more than made up for it.

HF skid back a few inches before he force the bo staff away and tried to slash her with his sais. She jumped out of the way but she was nicked by the blade, as she landed on the ground, she was forced to drop her bo staff by a raging headache, she was fighting an uphill battle as she tried to ignore the headache but it was no use. She was forced to her knees as she groaned, clutching her head she looked up at the HF with squinted eyes "What did you do?" she spat out.

The figure didn't reply and he turned around walking up but a bright flash occurred behind him and he turned around, his eyes widened "Shit" he cursed as his opponents body glowed in a dusty brown light. Her eyes opened, showing a pupil-less, whiteless, glowing sandy brown eyes. "Double-shit" he thought as she raised her hand causing the sand to fly up to the air and hurl towards him. He raised his arms in defence as the granules hit him, the force caused him to skid a few feet. He did a couple of hand signs that confused his opponents before he raised his sais and muttered "Futon: Washi no Tsume", and he blasted off, his sais encased in a translucent 'blanket' of energy. He needed to hurry, he saw the blonde girl's wounded leg, and he cursed his deceased comrade for fatally wounding one of their target. It gave him a time limit and he didn't like, time limits.

As he rushed towards his opponent, he was suddenly blocked by a thick, tendril of sand, he pushed through and the tendril of sand broke but he was blocked yet again by a dome of sand. He tried everything, he enhanced his sais more but it was no use the dome of sand was unbreakable. He tried to get away but tendrils of sand blocked him and attacked him, he needed to move fast to dodge the attacks, he was getting trapped and he gritted his teeth. He was an assassin, trained in the assassin way with some hints of ninja but he was an assassin foremost so he didn't know how to teleport. His only way out was to knock the girl out but the sand dome was pretty solid but as he dodged another tendril of sand an idea came to him. He didn't notice the change in the wind speed, and this was a mistake in his part. A very grave mistake indeed.

~Scene Break~

Angela was a normally calm child but she was freaking out here, she knew what was happening to her, the signs were there but she tried to deny it and she hid it from prying eyes. She tried to hide and deny her suspicions that she was going Berserk but as she stared at her Berserk Form, the manifestation of an elemental's Rampancy or Berserkness, the only upside was that they were the same gender as their host but nonetheless they were dangerous and the elemental should always avoid meeting them and because of that she was cursing herself at her stupidity for denying this.

She knew how to meet her berserk form by practice. This is because she found out during her bouts of rampancy, as light as it may be, that occurred in her life. She can contact her berserk form in her mindscape, the challenge was finding out that she was her berserk form not a figment of her imagination or dream. Her answer to this was something she couldn't and wouldn't share because if people find out that she can control her rampancy even in the minimum way possible, she will be dissected by people to find out the secrets. She was snapped out of her thoughts by someone's voice.

"Come on, Angela" her berserk form said in a childish voice (Well, normal since she is a child). And her eyes twitched, even though she was freaking out. Her berserk form was unbelievably childish (She is a child) and immature, as she stared at her berserk form, her eyes continued to twitch as her berserk form skipped about in her mindscape, she was about her height, maybe half an inch shorter, her light brown hair cascaded down her back and her sandy brown eyes, glinted with childish glee. And this is what irked her, Angela closed her eyes, and tried to calm down "Jasmine"

"Jaz, call me Jaz. By the way, Angela can I call you Angie?" Jasmine, her berserk form, asked as she continued to act like a kid on a sugar rush, jumping around and skipping in Angela's mindscape

"No, Jaz" she replied "You can't call me Angie. Now as I was saying" but she was interrupted yet again by Jasmine, "But come on, Angela. Angie is like a great name and you know what else is great? huh, do you?"

"I really don't care" Angela said exasperatedly "Jaz, please you've got to let me out". Jasmine's eyes widened "But why Angie?" "Angela" she corrected but Jasmine ignored her "Aren't we having fun?" she asked, her eyes shining with tears. Angela winced as she stared at her berserk form, she cursed the fates (Hint?) for giving her a childish, berserk form. She can handle sadistic people, cold people, aloof people and all that but she abhors childish people even if she, herself, is a child.

She tried to hush her down but Jasmine continued to tear up "Jasmine, I mean Jaz, I love hanging out with you but I need to take control of my body, I know you're just trying to have fun but switching my mind into primal instinct mode is not good." she said as she knelt down beside her berserk form and hugged her awkwardly. "So, are we good?" she hesitantly asked after a few moments of silence and she was enveloped in a bear hug "Of course Angie" Jasmine said as she released Angela who was starting to turn blue in the face. "Yeah, thank you" she rasped out as she was released from the hug and she stretched "And my names not Angie, Jaz" she said. And Jasmine smiled "Course it is Angie" and then her eyes narrowed and her personality turned 180 "Now you've got to be calm when you're battling that hooded figure, Angie. His different from those who chased you before, be careful. I gave you slightly more control with your elemental powers but I don't know if you can defeat him but if you think on your feet and improvise, i think you may have a chance to defeat him. Good luck, Angie".

Angela nodded her head, ignoring the brunette's nickname, she liked this side of her, the mature, battle-hardened and motherly side but she knew it didn't last. "By the way, you've got to visit me some time Angie" Jaz said as she turned back to her childish persona causing Angela's eyes to twitch, it's bad enough to give her a childish berserk form but a bipolar childish berserk form and what's worse is that it wasn't an act, this was perfectly honest and true.

But she cannot help but smile at her berserk form "Of course, Angie. I'll come back I promise" she said as she waved good bye. Her body started to glow, illuminating the dim light of her mindscape. And as the lights died down she was gone.

~Scene Break~

Angela opened her eyes but she was forced to blink rapidly, unwilling to believe what was in front of her. She was dreaming because her powers cannot be that powerful. In front of her was a sandstorm, like a huge sandstorm, the wind was tinged with sand granules and if she wasn't a sand elemental then she would have been buried in sand by now. She was standing in a sandless part of the ground, a miracle indeed.

'Woah, I can't believe I did this' she thought but then she heard a voice chime in 'Technically, Angie you're primal instinct mode did this', she would have freaked out a few moments ago but right now the voice, her berserk form, seemed to reassure her like an ally or teammate. She felt a disturbance and she jumped out of the way, dodging the energy-infused sai and her eyes widened 'How in the world did I do that?' she thought. 'Well, since you're in your element, Angie" Jaz said "You have a sort of sensor abilities. In your element you can feel people's movement, especially during or in sandstorms, unless they transparent, not invisible, I mean literally transparent. Walk through walls that sort of thing. But don't think you're invincible Angie because this will only lead you to your downfall'. Angela nodded her head and cause the sand to throw her bo staff back at her. After a few moments, she succeeded 'this will be useful' she smirked.

She heard the sound of rushing wind and dodged out of the way as her opponent appear, holding a single sai. Her opponents took his other sai and went into fighting position. And she clutched her bo staff 'let the real battle begin', as her bo staff exuded a pale brown light.

~Scene Break~

The hidden man, watched through his sunglasses, his only protection to the sandstorm. He didn't know how that could happen, one moment the hooded figure seemed to gain the upper hand and then the dark-haired child did and then it switched back and then this freaking sandstorm occurred. A sandstorm in the middle of a freaking forest, how the hell could that happen. Now this wasn't the craziest thing the hidden man had ever seen but this was unexpected, he had to retrieve the children but he observed that if he step into the sandstorm then the dark-haired child will sense him causing setbacks into his mission and that will be troublesome so he sat back and observed. He couldn't retrieve the blonde child without showing his presence to the two battlers, so he stayed low and waited.

He watched as they traded blows, a sand tendril here, a slash there but after a long time. The hooded figure hit a lucky shot and wounded the dark-haired child in the stomach. Blood spurted out of the wound as she fell down to her knees, the sandstorm started to calm down and eventually it stopped. The dark-haired child tried her best to fight off unconsciousness but it was no use and she fainted, her head hitting the sandy ground with a soft 'thump'.

The hooded figure took a deep breath and steadied his breathing, and the hidden man smirked, this was the perfect time to perform a hit and run. He removed his sunglasses and made a cross hand sign using his fingers and a plume of smoke enveloped him. Taking out a kunai, he spun it around his fingers before he clutched it and jumped towards the hooded figure. Intent on finishing this fast and efficiently, he didn't expect the hooded men to turn around and block him with a sai and not just any sai 'shit' the hidden man (can you still call him that?) thought as he saw the symbols engraved on the sai. And he muttered "You're an assassin", the hooded figure kicked him away "And you're Daisuke Motomiya, a ninja of Arashigakure" the hooded figure said as his sais glowed in a translucent green light. "Well I must be more famous than I thought" Daisuke shot back with a cocky smirk, "Arrogance will be your downfall" the hooded figure replied as he slashed at the dark-haired ninja, who dodged as he rolled his eyes "Yeah, yeah. 'arrogance leads to downfall' Yadda yadda. I've heard that before assassin. Don't waste your breath and BTW I have four words for you. You need Mouthwash". Under his hood the hooded figure furrowed his eyebrows "That's only three word" he said with confusion as he dodged the ninja's attack. Daisuke waved it off "Specifics" he said "Now I've got a mission to do so give me the two kids and I'll let you walk away". "Not in a million years, Ninja" the hooded figure replied as he traded blows with Daisuke. "Well, the hard way is more fun than the normal way" the ninja said as he kicked the hooded figure off.

Daisuke did a couple of hand signs and clapped his hands "Raiton:Hōden" before a surge of electricity came out of his arms, shocking his opponent in more ways than one. Through the pain the hooded figure saw a shadow move in the corner of his eye and he slightly smirked knowing who it was.

His opponent grinned, so sure was he of his victory, he didn't notice the shadow moved swiftly until it was too late. He felt a massive force slam unto him and he flew off from the ground, slamming hard into a tree. Groaning from the pain he opened his eyes and saw another figure who was about the same height as his targets. "You're late, Hoodie" the hooded figure said to 'Hoodie'?, 'weird name' Daisuke thought or maybe he was hearing things due to a concussion.

"Sorry" Hoodie said as he took a fighting stance, Daisuke stood up keeping his eyes on the two 'shit' he thought 'I'm outnumbered and I have no data about them' he gritted his teeth. He knew he was outnumbered, he knew he didn't have the upper-hand, and if he did fight them, there might be a chance for them to retrieve the dark-haired child that he already took. It was simple really, all he had to do was make a shadow clone before he engaged them and with the distraction of a fight he managed to do it easily.

Sighing in defeat, Daisuke made a handsign before he disappeared in a flurry of smoke. "Man, he's a coward" Hoodie said as he saw the ninja disappear. "Not quite, Hoodie" the hooded figure corrected as he looked at the spot where the ninja disappeared "He already took the other girl's body", Hoodie's eyes widened and he looked around trying to find their other target but all he saw was one, unconscious blonde child "Is this a failure" he asked as he walked up to the bleeding blonde child, the hooded figure shook his head "No, this is an incomplete" he answered, slightly wincing as he felt the battle's toll on him, with all the adrenaline his body ignored the pain but now with it gone his feeling it.

"Oh" Hoodie muttered, oblivious to the hooded man's pain, before he knelt down beside the blond child and murmured a few words causing a golden glow enveloped the child. After it died down, the blond child was healed.

"Good work" the hooded man praised, causing the Hoodie to smile under his hood, "Now, we have to go to HQ and give them the report" he said before he knelt down, clasped the two child's shoulders and disappeared. Leaving behind a sandy battle field, with wrecked trees and drops of blood.

~Scene Break~

Daisuke Motomiya, jumped from tree to tree, slightly wincing from his injuries. He held the dark-haired child protectively, his eyes darting from left to right, looking for signs of enemies. He has to tell his kage that the assassins were targeting elementals, and he also has to contact Hayate to warn him. Stopping for a moment, he took a deep breath, he had to tell them fast because with the return of the assassins, the multiple elementals springing up this past years, 'it' might be happening soon. And that is bad new, very bad indeed. He continued to jump from tree to tree, his light maroon eyes tinged fear, worry and determination. 'I need to tell them fast' he thought 'or else' he shook his head, he knows that he can do it and he knows that he can't afford to fail.

Unknown Location

In a dark, desolated park, a young child stared at the blonde man with determined eyes "If I join you, would you give me power?" he asked in a slightly broken English. The blonde man nodded his head in reply, "Then yes" the child said "I'll join you". "Go home kid" the blond man said "And pack your bags because you won't be seeing home for a long time". The child nodded his head before he ran home to do what he said.

Under the flickering lights, the blonde man smirked, pleased with the turn of events. He checked his pockets and saw his mask, a blank white mask, the mask that he wore when he murdered Asari, the mask that he wore when he murdered his new charge's grandfather.

Author's Note

Like it? Hate it? PM me or review if you want any ideas, OCs you want to put on the story or just to give your honest opinion. BTW did anyone get my fairy tale reference in this chapter? It's really hard to guess but I think some of you will get it and really no one got my reference? Matt Ishida, Daisuke Motomiya, Kenneth Ichichouji? No one remembers them? But then again it is possible that no one really reads the author's note. Um, well, I'm gonna tell you guys (and girls) next chapter.

Well, finally an update came. The trip to the concert was approved and it was cool and okay. Did any of you guys (and girls) attended to the "Rock Assembly" concert in Wembley? If you did what did you think? I thought it was okay, I mean I didn't know most of the performers there so I just think it's ok. Well, I think I'm boring you guys/girls with the details of the trip.

So, moving on. I apologise for the delays but because my USB was broken, I kind of gone emo for a few days. I mean who can blame me, my courseworks were in that USB and the drafts for this story disappeared. And then I found out the data in my back-up USB was raw so I had to reformat it and this process wiped out all of my back-up data. *sigh* well, failures are part of our lives but all my data, all my work. wasted. Just wasted.

After a few days of being mopey, I tried to forget about it. But then I started to get a new idea, you should know guys (and girls) that I'm a rookie in this job and my writing isn't the best but I'm trying to be better so what better way than to practice. So, I'm thinking of writing a new Percy Jackson story, it's a humor/romance story. I thought of it to practice for the funny, romantic, gushy part of this story, my main project HPATEOTA. Now, I think some of you are thinking 'You're just a new fanfic author, even you, yourself admit that', 'Your updates are already irregular, what would happen if you have another story' and all that but I want to write this it's been in my head for days now and I just need to write this, it's for practice and building up skills. I know and admit that I'm biting off more than I can chew with doing this new story while juggling my barely existent social life, my school work, my revision for the entrance exam, my summer homework, this story (HPATEOTA) and many more but I don't know I just want to write this.

Sorry for the long author's notes and I hope you guys like this chapter even if it has awful fight scenes and yes, it's true that I don't have any beta-reader and maybe never will but the future is ever-changing so maybe I might find one.

Good luck and have a nice summer or whatever the current season in your country is.
