After a very long and sleepless day, the nurse in charge of Rosalie made a choice. One that she wasn't too sure was the best, but she had to do something. Keeping someone in an induced coma for too long couldn't possibly be healthy. So, after a long discussion with herself she steeled her resolve, picked up the phone and dialed the Police Station's number.
"Hello?"
"Yes, I want to report a crime." She asked with fake confidence. "No, I didn't witness it." The woman shook her head. "But the girl is–" the person on the other line interrupted.
"Could I just speak with your commanding officer or whoever is in charge?" After a couple of static filled minutes the woman kept speaking, presumably with a higher up official. "Yes? Oh, sorry to interrupt your lunch Cpt. Brunetti, but–" The nurse blushed at the scolding but kept pressing, Rose's safety was far more important than her own discomfort. "Yes, it is very important."
"There's a girl who's in a coma and I think that her mother did this to her." The nurse took a deep breath and tried to keep the fluttery beginnings of hope at bay, which were getting stronger the more she was not being treated like a mental case.
"The name's Rosemary Elle Johnson."
"No, I don't think that's her real name, but I have no way to know what the real name is." The hope began to diminish, this was proving to be harder than she anticipated. "Because the patient is unconscious." She shook her head in exasperation, she couldn't reveal that the patient was awake, if the mother found out, it would turn out much, much worse for the both of them.
"Why I suspect the mother to be the cause of Rosemary's condition? Well, because, she…" the nurse tried to think back to all of her interactions with the mother, knowing that there were no indicators of abuse or negligence, but she had to say something, although her evidence was 'the supposedly comatose patient told me', she could hardly say it, "she has all the textbook signs of an abusive parent."
"Like what? Well, um, she seems to cry too easily and–" the cop interrupted her and the nurse tried to not lose her composure.
"Yes, I know it's normal for parents to cry when their child's in a coma, but–" the cop interrupted her again and the nurse wanted to go hide in a hole.
"Just please look into it." She pleaded. "See if there is such a girl called Rosemary Elle Johnson and if the story checks out with what the mother has been saying."
"Thank you very much Captain." The nurse shook in her seat, wondering if Rosalie would finally be able to escape the coma. Maybe she would and by tomorrow they'd all sit down and have cake. The nurse didn't know why cake was the food she decided Rosalie would like, but she guessed it didn't matter too much. Cake was a favorite of everyone, and maybe her mother-in-law could help her with a recipe.
A/N: The weekend brings many good things, amongst them a double update.
