If there was something characteristic about their relationship, it was the sneakiness. Aside from the very important people, no one else knew about their relationship—not even the media (after the explosion that Baek-hee was Miss K, no other girl was mentioned).

No one even knew that they lived together—no one knew that Hye-mi's boyfriend was in New York (when her classmates asked her, she just smiled slightly, saying, "He's also Korean," and everybody just assumed she left him there while she went to school. Sam-dong was up in arms at first, playing the protective boyfriend role, but a subsequent glare and a line about their jobs put him in place. The bimonthly visits were his idea—a Sam-dong without makeup, all in black with a beanie and shades, with a Hye-mi beside him, wearing the same thing, in a visit to a winter state of something or other.
