Peter sat one his bed once again, flipping through Tony's database. His lips were curled into an unpleasant frown as he read the words on his iPad screen. Tapping a pencil against his knee, he continued reading, and then jotted down something into his notebook. By this point, it was overflowing with scribbles and sketches. After they came back from England, they hadn't really been busy doing much. Tony went to a United Nations for some kind of a briefing, and Vision had seemed to sink into some kind of depression. Jessica tried to comfort the android, but he was hard to comfort.
"I guess he doesn't know how to cope with what he's feeling," Peter told her.
"I just feel so bad!" Peter sighed. "I don't know what to do, but be here for him."
Jessica shrugged, and took a sip out of her glass of water.
That had been earlier that morning. Now, he was curled up in his bedroom, doing research. He'd been here for several hours, and was starting to get a little tired. A cramp was also developing in his leg. He reached out for his cellphone, which was lying at the foot of his bed. Three Hours. Relaxing a little bit, he stretched out his legs, clasping the phone in his hand. Suddenly, it buzzed, an unknown number showing up on the screen. He frowned, then clicked the answer button.
"Hello?"
"Peter Parker?"
"Yes? Who is this?"
"Hi, my name is Laura Barton, Clint Barton's wife."
Wait, does she know I'm Spiderman?
"Um, what can I do for you?"
"I know that you're Tony Stark's intern, and I am really trying to get ahold of him."
"He's actually on a business trip right now, so he's not, um, here. Have you tried calling him personally?"
"I tried. He's not picking up."
"Oh. Well, I don't know then. Uh, I could try calling him if you'd like."
"That'd be lovely, Peter." "By the way, how'd you get my number?"
"My husband might have taught me a few tricks of the trade."
Peter chuckled.
"I'll call Tony, and tell him to get ahold of you."
"Thank you, Peter. I appreciate it a lot."
"Sure, no problem."
"Bye."
"Bye."
With that, she hung up. Peter quickly dialed Tony.
"Hey, you have a minute?"
"Sure, what's up?"
Peter ran a hand through his hair, making it stand up on end.
"Um. I just got off the phone with Laura Barton. She's been trying to get ahold of you, so she called me and asked where you were."
Tony didn't respond for a second, but Peter could hear him breathing deeply.
"Tony?"
"Oh god, I'm such an ass."
"Oh—uh—Well, okay. What's wrong?"
"I'm such an ass."
"You said that, sir—er—Tony."
"I totally forgot about her."
"Who?"
"Laura."
"Oh, right."
"I forgot she even existed. Damn, that's pretty awful."
"She told me she was Clint Barton's wife."
"Yeah, and she has three kids and they live on a farm somewhere in Dakota or someplace like that."
"And?" "I might have forgotten to tell her that her husband is in prison currently."
"So she's at home, not knowing where her husband is? Tony, that's awful!"
"You wanna know how I feel?"
"Sure."
"That was sarcasm."
"Oh. Do you think that's whys she's calling you? To ask if you know where her husband is?"
"I know that's why she was calling. What the hell am I going to tell her?"
"How about the truth?"
Tony laughed out loud, which went on for at least thirty seconds.
"Being dishonest never pays of," Peter snapped.
"Fine. Whatever, kid. Now I gotta start thinking what I should say."
"Maybe you could go, I don't know, visit her and make sure she's alright."
"Hmm, a vacation at a rural farm seems like an excellent idea."
"Would it be a vacation?"
"Um, yes? And can you come?" "I just came back from England! I'm exhausted"
"She has little kids though!"
"And?"
"I'm terrible with little kids."
"Fine. I'll go. When are we leaving?"
