Bam! Not! Dead!
Just Seriously busy, I'm going to be moving soon, so I'm focused on that right now. I'm also moving because I got promoted, again. Yay me for being awesome. My Bosses Boss even said that I was more then ready for an Assistant Manager position. That of course, means more money, but so much less free time.
So, that's why there haven't been any updates in a while. That said, I'm almost done with a ReArmed Conflict update, so I hope to have that out soonish, I'm going to gun for tomorrow, but no promises since today is the Third of August, which means I'm now Twenty-Five. And as my custom, I'm updating something for you all to enjoy while I'm off with my friends goofing off. Also, there is a small contest of sorts going on that I might be looking to join. So we'll see how that works out.
Anyway, That's enough of my ramblings, so, without further ado, a chapter I was very excited to work on...
-Chapter 26: Awakening Destiny-
The building was quiet, as it should be. It was the middle of the night on Macbeth, and as far as the enemy knew, nobody knew about this base. Hell, she hadn't even known about until last month, and she prided herself on staying in the know about places like this. Then again, considering it had taken her this long to also find a way in, it said something about their security.
She reached up and adjusted her glasses once more, as she rounded the corner of the hallway, she tightened her grip on her clipboard as she continued towards her goal. Some of the notes on the clipboard were hers, some were part of her cover, but most of the old fashion paper files came from the head researcher who was now hanging from the ceiling of his office, a rope tied around his neck, hiding the gash that she had put there after she had gotten everything she could from him.
It was probably the only time she had been thankful to have sound proofing in a base like this, it kept the screams from those trapped here from being heard. But it likewise served to muffle screams from anybody. She was quite confident that she could finish her mission and be out of the building before somebody found her work.
"Miss. Swift!"
She paused as her cover name was called out from behind her. She glanced over her shoulder at the guard, who rounded the corner with his gun held ready in his hands. She sighed inwardly before forcing a smile on her lips. "Commander Lance. What can I help you with today?"
Lance came up to her, the large gray armored bulldog lowered his gaze to meet hers. "I was wondering if you've seen Dr. Oscar today."
She pretended to think about it for a moment, tapping her finger on her lips. "Can't say I have. Is something the matter?"
Lance nodded. "Yes, there is, his private alarm was triggered and he hasn't responded to my calls." Lance glanced over his shoulder with a frown. "I just tried to open his door, but that damn security bug hasn't been fixed yet. So the security system doesn't recognize my clearance." he turned back to face her. "I know that the science staff security chips still work. I need you to come with me and open his door."
She shook her head while turning around. "I'm afraid I can't, I have some time sensitive experiments that I have to chec-" She stopped when Lance put his hand on her shoulder and stopped her from walking away." She felt his gun barrel touch her back.
"I told you, you have to come with me and open his door. You don't get a choice in this, if you experiments expire, too bad. Better this base remains a secret so you can restart the experiments in peace if you have to. Come on."
She sighed and nodded. "Very well, but can you please remove your gun from my back?" Lance pulled his gun away and she turned around. "Well then, if there might be a security threat, please, lead the way. I'll feel much better about this whole thing if you're first."
Lance nodded and turned around, making sure his gun was ready and aimed ahead in case there was somebody waiting for them. Inside, 'Swift' fumed, this was not going to plan. The security bug that lance mentioned was one that she herself had installed a few weeks ago. It had done its job in hampering the security, but still allowing her access as an assistant. As for Dr. Oscar, she had no doubt what had set off his alarm. She just cursed herself for not thinking that the micro trackers they had injected into them first thing would serve as an alarm as well. She followed Lance back to the office she had just left, trying to figure a way out of this base now that she had what she needed.
Before she was sure of her plan, they reached the office and Lance stepped to the side so she could reach the security pad. She stepped up and raised her right arm, closing her hand into a fist and swiping the back of her wrist over the pad. After a moment, a red light that ran around the pad flashed green and the locks in the door buzzed softly as they were retracted.
'Swift' stepped to the side as Lance took point on the door, he glanced at her before he pushed the door open and moved in. She knew the moment he saw the body since he swore softly. "Miss. Swift, you need to come see this."
'Swift' tightened her grip on her clipboard and slipped her hand underneath her lab coat to the small blade that she tucked into the back of her pants. She stepped around, ready to make her move only to freeze as she found Lance with his gun aimed at her. She blinked twice before speaking up.
"Lance...Lance, why are you pointing your gun at me?" She was proud of herself for getting the right mix of terror into her voice.
Her moment was ruined in the next instant though. "Quit the act, I know you did this." The door closed behind her, cutting off her escape route. "Who do you work for?"
'Swift' glanced around once more in terror. "Lance, what ar-"
Lance took a step forward, putting his gun barrel in her face. "I said QUIT THE ACT! Your going to die anyway, but I might make it quick if you tell me who you work for!"
'Swift' raised her hands slowly, using her free hand to take slowly take off her glasses. "Wow, I seriously underestimated you Lance." She closed her eyes and inhaled slowly before she opened them again. "DCO Fara Phoenix, attached to the 2nd unit of the Cornerian Special Operations Force." She grinned evilly at Lance. "Before you waste me, how did you figure it out?"
Lance scoffed then gestured at her clip board with his gun. "I smelled blood on you when I caught up to you, and when you tried to walk away, I saw pages on your clipboard with Dr. Oscars mark on them. When I saw what was in here it wasn't too hard to figure out." Lance paused. "I'm guessing you planned on being far away before anybody found him." Fara shrugged in answer and Lance sneered. "That's what you get for thinking you're better then us, you stupid Cornerian dog!"
Fara frowned and dropped her glasses.
On the other side of the door, even with all the sound proofing, a muffled boom sounded out, quickly followed by four shots from Lance's laser rifle. Silence fell for a full minute before the door slid open again and Fara stepped out, her hair disheveled around her large ears, and her lab coat was missing, revealing a tightly tucked shirt and pants underneath. Her muscles bulged slightly underneath the clothes as she breathed rapidly for a moment, adrenalin still coursing through her system.
She glanced back at Lance who had the knife sticking out of his neck. "I despise the sick experiments you and the scientists were performing here, and now that I got my proof. The fleet in orbit is going to turn the mine that hides this facility into a pile of slag. Good riddance to you all." She glanced up as an alarm started ringing through the base, she sighed and focused on the security camera set into the wall across from her. She reached into the room where she had set Lance's weapon and took a brief moment to aim at the camera and destroy it before taking a step towards the hallway.
She cursed softly as he chest lit up on fire and she placed a hand over her belly, she lifted it before her face and blinked at the red that covered her hand. She couldn't even recall when Lance had dealt the fatal blow, she just knew that her time was running out. The outside of her vision grew black as moved into the hallway, reaching into her harness underneath her shirt, she pulled out a small radio, she lifted it up to her lips and coughed once before she spoke up. "This is DCO Fara Phoenix, I'm on my way out of the facility, but...I've been seriously wounded...may not make extraction...level...this place...with me...if

...you...

When she next opened her eyes, she was surprised to find herself tucked into a bed with white sheets. Her memories were fuzzy, she remembered being found out, and fighting with the guard who had figured it out, something to do with a lance. She also recalled getting stabbed with a small hidden blade, and working her way through the facility, but she eventually had blacked out in some hallway.
Fara opened her eyes a slit, glancing around, but she didn't see any cameras or anybody else in the room. So she opened her eyes all the way and held her hand up in front of her face, before she slipped it underneath the sheets and felt her chest where she had been stabbed, she ran her fingers through her fur, but she couldn't feel anything, not even a small mark from the wound.
Was I captured by the enemy? I know that they were working with cutting edge Bio technology. Is that why I can't remember anything?
Fara took a moment to compose herself before she sat up in the bed, pushing the sheet off of her and revealing the hospital gown underneath. She ran her hands over her arms, dislodging the wireless sensors that were attached to her arms. She reached up and yanked one off the side of her head, yipping softly in pain when it pulled some of her hair with it. She slid out from under the seats and moved up next to the door, placing her hand on the switch to open it. The door buzzed softly in rejection and Fara frowned, waiting.
It wasn't even a full thirty seconds later that the door beeped and slid open, as two doctors rushed in and stopped staring at the empty bed. A moment later, Fara had knocked their heads together comedy style, but with enough force to knock them both out. She paused for a moment, staring at her hands as she flexed them. She should fell weak, she knew that, yet for some reason, she felt as strong as ever.
Fara glanced over her shoulder before she leaned down and took one of the coats off the doctors and swinging it over her shoulders and heading for the door at the end of the hallway. It took her ten minutes to get out of the hospital. Another fifteen minutes to confirm that she was indeed in Corneria City and to reach one of her safe houses. She raided the stash of clothes there, feeling much better once she slipped into her usual outfit, the blue jeans seemed a little worn for some reason, but otherwise, still fit fine. Her blue shirt had some wear along the sleeves, but fit just as well. She found her holdout blaster, but the battery was dead, so she left it behind. Instead, taking one of her spare knives and tucking it into a holster on her ankle.
Feeling much better about herself, she grabbed a cloak and left her stash house behind, disappearing into the hustle and bustle of Corneria City. She had a new goal in mind, and she was determined to track him down.
It didn't take to long, she paused to look up his name in the phone book, and to find an address listed. She used a credit chip to buy a ticket on a train across town, where she made her way into the apartments of downtown. When she reached his building, she reached out to punch in his apartment number, but something had her pause. She glanced around and after satisfied nobody was watching her, she darted into the alleyway.
She waited until the sun had set before she found a service ladder on the building next door and broke the lock keeping it covered. It took her about ten minutes to get to the top of the building, and her arms were quite sore by the time she reached the top. She took a few moments to rest them before she walked to the side of the building, still rubbing her arms. She glanced over the edge, counting the floors of the building before she found the one she wanted, she focused on the lit up room just in time to see a vulpine walk into the room.
Fara blinked and felt her heart beat hollowly. The rough edge teen she had been expecting was missing, in his place was a much older man, a small scar sat underneath his eye, the small tuft of white hair that sat on his head, much bigger then she remembered it. He was talking on the phone and seemed worried about something. Fara took a step back as he hung up the phone, she blinked again as he called to somebody in another room, only for her world to tumble out from underneath her as a small kit ran out to wrap their arms around him. The kit had blue hair, but still had the same tuff of white hair sitting on his head.
A cobalt blue vixen walked out a moment later and Fara closed her eyes as tears welled up, she turned away from the apartment, wiping her eyes with an arm as she struggled to hold back the tears.
"Sorry you had to find out this way, but you took off before anybody could tell you what happened."
Fara froze at the voice before glancing across the roof where a Lynx had just finished climbing up the ladder and was staring at her with arms resting on the edge of the roof. She looked so familiar... "...Miyu?" Fara's voice was quiet as she asked the question.
The lynx chuckled. "The one and only." She finished pulling herself up onto the roof. "Have you figured it out yet Fara?"
Fara stared at her friend and coworker, who also had aged greatly in a small matter of time. She nodded and dropped to her knees. Miyu frowned and reached behind her, pulling out a small tablet screen and calling up a news window before sliding it across the roof to Fara who waited a moment before she picked up the tablet and focused on the date at the top.
Miyu's voice was soft as Fara finally broke down and started to cry. "It's been Twenty-Five years Fara. A lot has happened." Miyu walked over to her friend and placed a hand on her shoulder as he body shook with sobs. They stayed that way for a few moments before Fara's broken voice sounded out. "...Miyu...Miyu, what happened...to me?"
Miyu sighed and sat down next to Fara. "That's going to take some time to explain..."
Nearly an hour later, Miyu and Fara watched as Fox McCloud walked out of his sons bedroom and shut the door before turning and hugging the Krystal McCloud, the two of them locking hands and retreating into their own bedroom.
"I...see..." Fara placed her hand on her belly. "...I died..."
Miyu nodded. "Yeah, and your dad couldn't stand the thought of losing you so soon after your mother. So he invested heavily in medicine and had you cryogenically frozen until your wound could be treated." Miyu looked up at the night sky as the lights shut off in the apartment. "It took twenty-five years, and even then, there wasn't a great chance for success, but they still pulled it off." Miyu lowered her gaze to Fara who was still staring into the dark apartment. "Add in a day to track you down, and also apologize to two doctors, one of which would like his coat and ID pass back by the way. Now, here we are."
Fara looked at her hand again. "Time stopped for me, but the rest of you kept going." Fara sighed and closed her eyes as two tears squeezed out of her eyes. "I don't fit in with you guys anymore."
Miyu scoffed. "I doubt that, I bet you could still wipe the floor with half the recruits we have today." she stood up and brushed off her clothes. "I bet I could get you put in as an instructor until your combat certified again." Miyu looked down and Fara and grinned "I have a little pull with the new General, Corneria's first female General has a thing for pink bows."
Fara looked up in surprise and Miyu nodded with a small laugh. "Yep." She paused before she continued. "Look, your apartment is still payed up, head home when you're feeling ready." She reached behind her again and pulled out another tablet. "In the meantime...if you think you can stand it, this is for you."
Fara took the pad and nodded. "Thanks Miyu, I'll head home in a bit."
Miyu stared at her friend for another minute. "Alright." With out another word, the lynx turned and headed for the ladder, sliding down it to street level.
Fara looked at the tablet for a moment, before she tapped the only file that was there. She blinked a video file popped open, and she tears suddenly fell onto the tablet. She hugged it to her chest, before she wiped the tears off and hit play on the file with the simple name 'For My Daughter.'
"My dear Fara, if you've been given this, then I didn't make it in time to see you again. But I just want you to know, that I will always love you..."
Fara pulled the tablet close to her and wailed softly into the night as her dads final message played for her.
-Inspired By: Fara awakes after a cryo frozen coma many years later to find Lylat is a much different place. Her mind is also jumbled with the last memories of her mission.-
Well...I just realized, this has been running for over two years. Time sure does fly does it not? Wow.
You guys are awesome for your support of this guy who doesn't update as frequently as he should.
So, A guest Review was left last chapter.
Albus: Who knows, that might be something that will happen sooner rather then later. It would be an interesting idea. Anywho, thanks for your review.
So, that's that, although I just realized that if I get a review on this, I'll have 200! Holy crap!
Anyway, I'm off to play some Destiny and be Awesome at that before I hit the hay and wake up to party with friends. I will try and get that ReArmed update out, if not this week, then the next. Until the next time.
