Chapter 26

E

After baby A was born, things progressed pretty quickly. Torn between leaving Isabella's side and performing my fatherly duties, I was an emotional wreck.

I don't know if any of you have witnessed the aftermath of a C-section, but it could be pretty fucking scary, and that's without any sort of complication or emergency. With all the endorphins and extra hormones coursing through her body, coupled with the anesthesia, Isabella began to shake uncontrollably. So much so, that she was deathly afraid of having the babies anywhere near her. Lastly came the nausea and vomiting; it literally fractured my heart into a million pieces to have to see her go through that. "I'm so, so sorry, Baby," I lamented, throat constricting with my suppressed emotion. "I swear I would take your place if I could.

"Nn-nooo… E-ddd-w-aaar-dd…" Izzy stuttered, trying desperately to speak. "B-b-babies…"

"Shh… they're fine, Sweetheart," I assured her. Thankfully, my father anticipated my needs and chose to make an appearance at that moment, so he could sit with Izzy and keep an eye on her while I cut the babies cords and supervised their Apgar testing.

It was there in that moment, while watching the nurses weigh, footprint, test hearing, and measure the length of my two little angels that I released all the pent up emotions of the day.

Earlier, I was married to the girl of my dreams and now I was daddy to not one but two little girls. In a few days, I was going home with three of the most beautiful girls in Seattle, WA.

"Dammit, Cullen, life doesn't get any better than this!" I thought to myself as I took it all in.

I am one lucky bastard!

AN: Well, the babies are finally here. A friend of mine recently gave birth and that is some of what she went through was used to convey Edward and Bella's birthing experience. Leave me some love if you all are so inclined.
