Chapter 20
Enjoy...
The early rays of sunshine pierced through the curtains, hitting the young girl's face. She stirred slightly. Not really wanting to wake up but knew she had to. Ari took the covers off of her; moaning slightly at the sudden loss of warmth. Slowly, she got out of bed, slipping into her bunny slippers , she trudged into the bathroom.
"Your pancakes are ready sweetie," Ally yelled up the stairs to her 5 year old daughter. When she heard no reply she shrugged it off, thinking that her daughter was still sleeping. She would wake her later.
A minute passed, the 5 year old came down the stairs with a tired look etched across her face. Ally gave her a warm smile and a kiss on the cheek before serving her 2 pancakes on her favourite princess plate. "Thanks mommy," she said. Ally was confused. Normally it would be 'thanks mommy' along with a huge smile but today...
Suddenly Ari's eyes grew wide with panic. Her eyes frantically scanned her surroundings. She quickly got out of her seat and started running. She ran and ran and ran; as fast as her little legs would carry her. Ally, eyes wide with confusion ran after screaming her name, asking her what was wrong but the little girl would just not answer! Ari ran all the through the house, her pancakes now long forgotten. She ran until she couldn't anymore. She ran until she was breathless and had to stop. She bent down, putting her hands on her knees and panting heavily. For a little girl she could run a lot!
"Baby, whats wrong?" Ally immediately asked as soon as she stopped running. Ari had a fearsome expression in her eyes, which scared the living daylights out of Ally because she had never seen that emotion in her baby's eyes. What scared her so much? What was it? What was so important? Ally was dying to know the answers to each and every one of those questions and more.
Ari could hear her heart thumping in her chest. She could feel her blood rushing through her veins. Fear wrapped itself around her. The images flashing through her brain. "Sweetie, come on tell me whats wrong! You have to tell me Ari so that I can help," Ally spoke softly. Ari looked up. Her brown eyes glassy. "Daddy...Daddy wh-where is he?" She managed to choke out.
"He just left just before you woke up," Ally replied.
"But...but he...he cant leave," Ari said. Her voice showed fear and Ally didn't know why.
"He'll come back, i promise. He just needed to freshen up and get changed and things" Ally explained as she pulled Ari into a hug.
"Promise?"
Ally sighed," I promise"
"Good," Ari murmured against Ally's shoulder.
Austin unlocked the front door with the spare key that had been given to him by Ally. He immediately heard tiny footsteps as they ran down the stairs. "Daddy!" Ari yelled, she ran at full speed towards Austin.
He picked her up, twirled her around, and kissed her cheek "woah there! Calm down precious!" he chuckled.
"Daddy i'm so happy your back! I was so scared," Ari mumbled into the hug.
"Scared of what?" He asked. "I'll tell you later," she quickly said as he let her down and she dragged him away.
Austin sat down in the living room with Ari. They were watching tv. Austin sat in the corner of the sofa while Ari sat on his lap. She had calmed down when he had arrived and was now smiling away without a care. Ally was in the kitchen, on the phone with Trish. Ally walked out of the kitchen and to where Ari and Austin were sat. "Ari, sweetie i need to talk to you," Ally said gently as she held her hand out for Ari to take. Ari took a minute to scramble off of Austin's lap as she placed her hand in her Mom's one. Mother and daughter both walked up the stairs and into Ari's room. Ally sat down on the bed and patted the space next to her. When Ari was comfortable on the bed Ally let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.
"Ari I gotta talk to you about something," Ally spoke up.
"About what Mommy," Ari asked, confused.
Ally fished the note out of her pocket. "Sweetie do you recognise this," Ally questioned.
"Oh i thought i threw that away," Ari avoided the question.
Ally raised an eyebrow in question. "Oh really because i found this in your book," Ally explained.
"Mommy I thought I chucked it away," Ari said, honesty portrayed in her eyes.
Ally blinked a couple of times, unsure whether to ask the next question or not. Maybe she shouldn't. Or maybe she should. She needed answers. She sighed and closed her eyes. "Ari did you read it?" Ally questioned cautiously.
"No Mommy, I only read the outside and read 'dear' I didn't read the rest," Ari replied.
"Okay sweetie, you can go back to watching tv," Ally smiled as Ari walked out the door and down the stairs.
Ally stared down at the note. Every time she read it i would get her heart to start racing and her blood to start rushing. It was all written in perfect handwriting.
Dear Ally,
I'm watching you...
From anonymous.
"Dear Ally, I'm watching you, from, anonymous" she said out loud to herself.
However, she didn't notice the figure standing at the door. She didn't notice that they had heard her read the note out loud. That they heard each word, loud and clear.
