"Elena…"

I glared at Kol when he started to speak and he frowned at me.

"I really think we should go and get Elijah." Kol's voice was laced with concern and I grabbed his wrist as he went to go back inside.

"Don't you dare…"

"Why don't you want Elijah here, Elena? He's worried about you." Klaus raised an eyebrow at me as he spoke and I shook my head slightly as I stood from where I was still sat against the wall – releasing Kol's wrist as I did.

"Because I don't. Would you want Caroline here if it was you about to do this?"

He sighed and glared at my underhand method of trying to get him to give in. I smirked at him and strode away from the two brothers. One of them grumbled something behind him before I heard them both run after me.

"Yes, Elena, I would. I would want her to help me through this entire thing."

I turned to face my left and glared at Klaus when he spoke. He smirked back at me and I huffed, looking back in the direction I was walking.

"Come on, Lena, we're just trying to help you out."

"If you want to help, then leave Elijah out of this." Kol frowned at me again when I turned and yelled at him and he watched me sadly for a moment before I turned and walked away from him. I had gotten several feet when the sound of Klaus's voice stopped me.

"You need him, Elena. You want me to help you through this, but the truth is, you need him to help you through it. You need a connection to your humanity, and I can't think of anything or anyone better than Elijah."

I sighed and closed my eyes tightly, shaking my head slightly. Soft footsteps approached me and I felt Klaus lay a hand on my arm. "You wanted my help, this is me giving it. You need Elijah."

As I turned to speak to him, I felt a bone in my ankle contort and break and I cried out, collapsing against Klaus. I turned to him and looked him in the eye.

"You swear? You swear that Elijah can help."

He was silent for a moment before he nodded slowly. "I swear."

I nodded and turned to Kol, gritting my teeth to keep from crying out as another wave of pain washed over me.

"Go and get him."

Kol nodded and was gone in an instant. Klaus wrapped one of my arms around his shoulders and held onto my wrist as he wrapped his other arms around my waist and held me up. He helped me walk along for a moment until I felt more of my bones, snapping and changing and I cried out again, my legs buckling under me.

I was quickly swept up into his arms and he sped towards the old brick building we had been heading towards initially. When we got there, he set me back on my feet so that he could open the door before he walked us inside.

The door slammed shut behind us and, the second he unhooked my arm from around his shoulders, I fell to my knees. He crouched in front of me and tilted my face up to his.

"Focus on me, Elena. Slow your breathing and focus on pushing it back. Push the transition away…"

"There's twenty-three minutes until the moon reaches its apex and I start to turn. I need you to teach me…I need you to teach me how to keep the transition at bay."

Klaus raised an eyebrow and crouched in front of me. "Stop from transitioning? Are you sure? Think of all the power you would stand to gain from this, you'd be unbeatable."

I shook my head slightly and swallowed. "I already have. Yes, I'll be unimaginably strong, but then I'll have to live with the guilt of letting this child die." I touched a hand to my stomach and shook my head slightly, looking down at my stomach. "I can't do that." I sighed softly and looked back up at Klaus.

"This child is as much as Elijah's as it is mine. This child is a part of your family, you can't tell me you want me to let him or her die."

Klaus sighed and shook his head, regarding me with sad eyes. "Of course not, as you rightfully said; this child is a part of our family. Of course I don't want the baby to die, but I want to make sure that you understand what you're giving up."

I shrugged slightly. "I'm sure we can find another witch to activate this whole thing afterwards, if I want them to." He nodded and moved to sit in front of me.

"You're obviously beginning to transition into a hybrid, so I don't see any reason why you'd unable to resist the transformation." He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Unfortunately, resisting a transformation is the most difficult part of being a werewolf. If you're forced to transition, as you are being, then it's extremely difficult to stay as a human. When you become a wolf, your emotions are essentially stripped away while you are in that form. That's why the transition is so painful, so that you cannot focus on your humanity."

I bit my bottom lip and nodded. "Great, that's just brilliant." I ran my free hand through my hair and shrugged slightly. "I think I saw an abandoned building out in the trees somewhere, we should go there. Just in case I…" Klaus nodded and stood up, exchanging a glance with Kol as he did.

"That's easier said than done!"

Klaus chuckled at me and shook his head slightly. "When is anything ever as easy as it sounds?" I glared at him and he shook his head slightly.

"Alright, enough of that. You need to focus on something happy, something that links you to your humanity, to your human form."

"Like what?"

Before Klaus could respond, the door opened again and Kol appeared with Elijah behind him. Elijah was by my side instantly and he gently cupped the sides of my face in his hands. His eyes searched mine and he watched me sadly for a moment before his eyes flicked to where Klaus was, without fully looking away from me.

"What does Elena need to do?"

"She needs to find a link to her humanity. Something to keep her emotions intact."

Elijah nodded and locked his eyes on mine. A small whimper escaped me as I felt my leg snap and change and closed my eyes against the pain as I tried to stop myself from crying out. I heard Elijah move in front of me and he shifted me so that my side was resting against him.

"Don't do that, look at me, Elena."

His thumbs moved in soft circles over my cheekbones and he kissed my forehead. "Come on, open those lovely brown eyes and look at me."

When I slowly inched open my eyes, Elijah gave me a sweet smile and brushed some hair behind my ear. "Much better, mi amor."

I managed to give him a small smile before my arm broke and contorted and I cried out. Elijah rubbed my back softly.

"Focus on me, think of something that makes you happy." I shook my head my head softly and looked at him sadly. "I-I don't know…I-I can't think…"

"That's the transition, Elena, it's making you forget, it's making you push your emotions away. Don't let it."

I whimpered and shook my head at Klaus's voice. "I don't-I don't know how."

Elijah tilted my gaze back to his and he pressed his forehead against mine. I could feel his breath against my lips and I saw him close his eyes.

"Think. I need you to think, Elena, think back. Back to when you were happy; a-a memory or a person, anything."

The rain that began to lash down on the room of the building we were in distracted me from the pain for a moment, but it was long enough for me to fully return my attention to Elijah. His eyes were still closed and he brushed my hair behind my ears.

"Focus, Elena…"

"You need to focus if you want to catch me."

Elijah's voice was suddenly right beside me and I felt his lips brush the outside of my ear. I gasped and spun, only to see that he was gone. A small smile curved my lips and I giggled as I caught sight of his suit in the trees.

I sped to where I had seen him, frowning when he was suddenly gone. There was a small breeze beside me and I turned to see what it was.

Arms wrapped around my waist and I was pulled back into a firm chest. He placed a gentle kiss on my neck and I heard his quiet chuckle.

"You need to do better than that…"

I quickly spun in his arms and wrapped mine around his neck. "Why are we doing this, Elijah? I figured games weren't your thing."

Elijah smirked at me and gently moved my arms from around my neck. He gently kissed my knuckles before dropping my hands.

"Whoever said that?"

Then he was gone.

A laugh escaped me and I shook my head slightly. After ten minutes of chasing him around the forest, I jumped onto his back, wrapping my arms around his neck and my legs around his hips.

"Gotcha."

He chuckled and I hopped from his back, landing on my toes on the ground. Elijah turned to face me and wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Congratulations, I was beginning to think you'd never catch me."

I smiled at he leant forward and captured my lips with his own. Suddenly, the heavens opened and a gasp escaped me as I felt the rain beginning to soak my clothes. I pulled away from Elijah and tugged on his hand.

"Come on, we should get inside."

As I turned to go inside, Elijah tugged on my hand, pulling me back around to face him. His hair was already drenched and his suit was well on its way to being thoroughly soaked as well. He brought his free hand up to brush a longer piece of dripping hair away from his eyes.

"We're vampires, Elena, we'll hardly get sick."

I grinned at him and shook my head, feeling water drip from my eyelashes onto my cheeks. "That doesn't mean I like the feeling of getting soaked!"

Elijah grinned at me and a small squeal escaped me when he swiftly manoeuvred me into a bridal style carry. Abruptly, I was thrown into the lake. When I resurfaced, Elijah was stood by the side of the lake, chuckling to himself. I slicked my drenched hair back, away from my eyes and glared at him.

"What the hell was that for?"

"Well, now you're already soaked through," He shrugged slightly, "There's no point in going inside now."

I laughed and swam to the lakes edge, Elijah silently offered me a hand to help me out of the water, and I took it with devious grin. Seconds later, Elijah was beside me in the water. He resurfaced and looked at me with an incredulous grin.

I giggled, shrieking when he dove towards me and grabbed me. He dunked me under the water for a moment. When I came back up, he was grinning and gently wrapped his arms around my waist. I blinked against the rain pouring down on us and he lowered his face to mine, gently pressing his lips against my own.

"I love you, my sweet Elena."

I smiled at him when he murmured the words quietly against my lips and I placed my arms around his neck,

"And I love you, my noble Elijah."

He smiled back at me and gently kissed my lips again.

I came back to see Elijah smiling softly at me and he nodded. "That's it, keep thinking, Elena. Don't let go."

A shriek escaped me when I felt Kol's arm wrap around my waist and he scooped me up before carrying me away. I flailed in his grasp, giggling and shaking my head.

"Kol! Put me down!"

He scoffed and I felt him shake his head. "Not a chance, Gilly {A/N: GILL-LEE}. Whipped cream in my shoes, really?"

I giggled again, hearing Rebekah do the same from where she was led on the sun chair watching us. "Hey! It wasn't just me! Rebekah helped too!" I saw Rebekah glare at me and shake her head. Just as Kol began to speak, we heard Klaus's outraged cry from the house.

"Elena Gilbert! Rebekah Mikaelson!"

I caught Rebekah's eye and saw that she was also biting her lip to keep from laughing.

"Yes, Nik?"

I bit on my lip harsher to stop another giggle escaping as I saw Nik leave the house, waving his paintbrush around, with Elijah stood behind him wearing a small smile.

"'Yes, Nik?' That's all you can say? You replaced my paint, with ketchup! And all you can say is; 'yes, Nik?'"

I couldn't hold it in anymore and burst out laughing, hearing Rebekah and Kol do the same. Kol's arm loosened from around my waist as he started laughing and I slithered away as I saw Klaus run towards Rebekah. Kol straightened and ran towards me as I dashed away.

I slipped behind Elijah and put my hands on his shoulders as Kol stopped in front of him.

"Save me, Elijah!"

He chuckled and shook his head. "I don't think so, I believe I'll stay out of this one."

I shrieked as he stepped out of the way to let Kol towards me.

A small smile tugged at my lips at the memories and I saw Elijah smiling at me, along with Kol and Klaus off to the sides. The pain of one of my limbs contorting was barely noticeable as I felt the transition beginning to ease off.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Klaus look at his watch and then back at us. "The moon is past its apex, you should be in the clear now."

I sighed in relief and collapsed against Elijah. His arms wrapped around me and he held me against his body. I smiled to myself when I felt him gently kiss the top of my head.

"We should go back; deal with Hayley, see if we can find out more about this baby."

The brothers all looked at me then exchanged glances before Kol and Klaus nodded. Before I could stand up, Elijah hooked an arm under my knees and picked me up, standing as he did. I let out a small noise of protest and frowned at him. "I can walk just fine."

"Nonsense, you just went through half a transition. You can bloody well let him carry you."

I smacked Elijah's shoulder when I saw his lips beginning to curve into a small smile at Kol's remark and shook my head slightly, sighing as I wrapped my arms around his neck and rested my head against his chest. Kol and Klaus walked to the door and opened it before walking out.

"Fine, but you'd better not drop me."

Elijah smiled at me and slowly walked towards the door, cradling my body against his. He shook his head and looked back down at me.

"Never."
