Chapter 26: Our Girl
Jace walked down the hallway from Clary's room, towards the waiting room, ignoring Clary's calls to him.
"Don't tell Clary you saw me." Jace told his friends the moment he saw them.
"What?" Izzy questioned, immediately worried of what was about to happen.
"Just don't. I swear I'm not leaving her or anything, I just need space to think, and I can't do that around her."
"You swear you aren't leaving her?" Jon asked, preparing to defend Clary.
"Yes. I swear on anything. I just need space. I gotta go now, I thi-" Jace started but was cut off by a scream that sounded exactly like Clary.
"What the fuck did you do?!" Sebastian yelled standing up.
"Me! What did I do! I didn't do anything! I don't know what's wrong, but I can't stay to find out. I know that probably makes me sound like a dick, but- that's because I probably am. Don't tell her you saw me." Jace said, and disappeared around the corner. He stepped into the stairwell door, and went up a flight just to make sure his friends couldn't find him.
He sunk down against a wall and put his head in his hands, wondering how the hell he was going to convince Clary he wasn't going anywhere.
O.o.O.o.O.
Clary yelled Jace's name after he walked out, but he ignored her. She slid off her bed to her feet, and tried to go after him, but realized that her IV was slowing her down tremendously. So with a second's hesitation, she ripped the IV out, and screamed from the pain. Blood was already starting to appear, and by the time she got to the hallway, it was flowing down her arm.
She reached the waiting room, and went over to her friends and family.
"Clary! What the hell did Jace do to you!" Izzy fumed, staring at Clary's arm.
"Nothing. Where's Jace?"
There was an awkward silence among the group, until Izzy finally got out, "We haven't seen him. We thought he was with you."
"You mean you didn't even see him come out here?" Clary asked confused.
"No." Izzy lied to her face.
"What the hell." Clary mumbled, stumbling to the elevators.
"Clary! You're arm! You can't just ignore that! What the hell happened!" Sebastian yelled coming towards her.
But Clary was already inside an elevator, and had pressed the button to close the doors.
"I'm sorry." She whispered, just as the doors shut in his face.
She sunk down against the wall, holding her head in her hands, wondering how the hell she was going to convince Jace he needed to forget her.
Eventually Clary stood up, and decided that while she wasn't going back to her friends, she wasn't just going to sit in an elevator. So she pressed the button for the roof, but when she pulled her arm away there was blood covering the button. At first she was going to wipe it off, but couldn't find it in herself to care enough.
The elevator doors opened to a bright sunny sky, with birds chirping. Exactly the opposite of how she was feeling.
Clary walked over to the ledge and leaned against it, cherishing the peace she felt. All of the stress and sadness just melted off of her, just for that one moment.
Until she went unconsious.
O.o.O.o.O.
Jace eventually stood up and exited on the same floor he was sitting on, because he didn't feel like going back to his friends. He went to the elevators and got in, not really knowing where he wanted to go.
Until he saw the blood covered button for the roof.
He immediately pressed his thumb against the button, his mind wandering to Clary. Depressed. Bleeding. On a roof.
Jace jumped out of the elevator as soon as it opened, his eyes scanning the roof, stopping when he saw red. Blood. Lots of blood, streaming from the girl knocked out by the ledge. Clary was passed out, from what he assumed was lack of blood.
Jace ripped off his shirt and tied it around Clary's arm, right above where the blood was flowing from. He picked her up and ran back to the elevators, hitting the buttons with his foot. They reached the cancer floor in what felt like a very long time, and Jace ran Clary to her room, passing Robert on the way, who followed him.
"Found her on the roof! Looks like she's losing lots of blood!" Jace called to Robert.
The doctors went to work on Clary, and for once, Jace was allowed to stay with her, instead of being forced to leave.
O.o.O.o.O.
"I assume you all saw Jace rush in with Clary?" Robert asked Clary's friends and family an hour later. Jace had joined them about 15 minutes ago.
"Yes." Jocelyn sniffled.
"Well. It seems Clary ripped her IV out of her arm, literally, and passed out from blood loss."
"Will she be okay?" Jon croaked.
"Well, she didn't lose enough to need a blood transfusion. So on the blood loss side she will be fine. But as for the kidney side, both kidneys have failed."
All of the girls started sobbing harder than they were before, and even the guys were wiping at their eyes.
"If she can get one good kidney within the next, I'd say 3 days, she might have a chance."
"Well we all will test to see if one of us is a match. Right?" Jordan asked the group, to which they immediately all nodded yes.
"Well, I must warn you, this is a big commitment. If you are a match, you undergo surgery."
"We'll do anything to save Clary!" Maia said.
"Yeah, Clary's our girl!" Sebastian chimed in agreement.
"Alright. We can do it now, if you're all ready."
"Ready as ever." Simon said.
"Okay. Whoever wants to go first, follow me."
Jace jumped up and walked with Robert, wiping his palms on his jeans.
"After you." Robert said, opening the door for Jace.
O.o.O.o.O.
"Okay, the test results have come back." Robert brought out a folder with him into the waiting room.
"And?" Valentine asked hopefully.
"And... Well, here goes. Maia- negative. Jordan- negative. Simon- negative. Izzy- negative. Jocelyn- negative. Valentine- negative. Jonathan- negative. Sebastian- negative. And, Jace-
