Freida and Georgia stole through the castle in the early morning, dressed in their sleeping clothes as they headed back to the common room from one of their usual nightly strolls to the kitchens.
"You know you could have just snagged something from dinner," Freida chided her sister as they scurried through a corridor of many windows, the dim moonlight spilling onto the stone floor.
"I wasn't hungry then," Georgia said as she followed her twin. "And you know you love any excuse to get out of bed."
Freida couldn't suppress the grin from appearing on her lips. She couldn't deny she loved a bit of mischief in the early morning. Sometimes sleeping was just so boring.
"Exactly," Georgia said. She shared her twin's sentiments as well. She looked behind her to make sure no one was coming then whispered, "Alright, the coast is clear."
Freida was about to step into the open stairwell she stopped suddenly, her ears picking up a sound coming from behind a door they had just passed.
"Here!" Georgia cried as she grabbed Freida and pulled her behind a statue of one of Hogwarts' forgotten greats.
"Ah!" Freida cried as she was forced into the small alcove. "You couldn't find a better hiding spot?"
"It was the closest thing. Now get your elbow out of my chest and keep quiet," Georgia said as she adjusted herself.
The door creaked open and small feet trotted onto the stone, Mr Norris' ears twitching in every direction. "Anything, Mr Norris?" the old caretaker asked as she followed the animal outside.
Freida and Georgia waited with baited breath as the cat looked up and down the corridor. Eventually, he gave a low meow and Filch's shoulders sagged. "Oh dear. I was hoping. Come, let's go," she said as she started off in the other direction.
Freida snickered, "That cat needs his ears checked, right Georgie?"
Mr Norris turned in an instant before he hissed and darted towards their hiding spot. "I knew it," Filch exclaimed in delight. "Students out of bed!" she cried.
Freida and Georgia pushed out of the alcove, toppling the large statue in their haste. It smashed on the floor, chunks flying towards Mr Norris and forcing him to stop. The twins laughed. "Better luck next time, Norris!" they cried as they sprinted up the stairs back to the common room.
