A/N: Thanks to TheForceIsStrongWithThisOne and lunar silver for the reviews
Also I have good news and bad news.
Good news is that I've decided to make this story a little longer than originally intended.
Bad news is that there will be no new chapter next week, because I need some time to plan it out.
In the end though it should provide you with an entertaining read!
(Scene Break)********************
"Well, I'll be having nightmares for a month." Raven said, walking side-by-side with Beastboy as they made their way to their rooms. Beastboy ran a hand through his hair.
"No kidding I didn't know human bodies could get torn apart like that." The changeling shuddered and then turned to look at his stoic friend, "Just remember to admit you're scared this time, being terrorized by your powers gone wonky is not my idea of a good night."
"I don't know, imagining you scared senseless does bring a smile to my face." The cloaked girl said, her lips curled upward slightly.
"Always glad to help." Beastboy grumbled sarcastically. "Anyway sorry for locking myself in my room the past couple of days, guess I got carried away with my new rig." Raven shrugged in response.
"Actually, it was kind of nice, got a couple of peaceful days to catch up on reading…" The dark girl said, she let out a deep sigh. "…However, I did miss your annoying presence somewhat." She finished, frowning slightly, "I can't believe I just said that."
"I guess we're both full of surprises tonight." The green Titan replied, they arrived at Raven's door and he was about to wish her good night and walk away when she suddenly grabbed his left forearm with her right hand, stopping him.
"Um…" She mumbled so quietly that if Beastboy's pointy ears didn't have enhanced hearing he would not have picked up on it. He looked at her, but she immediately avoided his gaze. "…Well there's this new restaurant that opened up in Downtown and I was wondering...if you'd like to go there tomorrow night?"
The changeling's eyes widened and his mind raced. Was Raven asking him out on a date? Wait, what if she wanted to do a group outing and she was just asking him first, he could be reading her totally wrong. There was only one way to find out.
"Totally! I'm sure the others would love to try out a new place to eat…" Beastboy started, but stopped when he saw Raven's stern face.
"No, not the others, I just want it to be you." She told him. The changeling smiled, well that answered that, he had already promised Stacy that he would do a gaming weekend with her, and he liked to keep his promises. Still, this was a special occasion, Raven had actually asked him, Beastboy A.K.A. Garfield Logan out on a date. Hell must have frozen over.
"Wow Rae, you're actually asking me out? I'm flattered." He told her with a big goofy grin that he could not wipe off his face.
"What can I say, you've had more good moments than bad in recent memory." She replied with a slight smile. "I just…feel different when I'm around you and I want to explore this feeling."
"Nothing wrong with that." He said to her, grabbing her hand and kissing it. "I'll be the perfect gentleman." A violet eyebrow rose on Raven's face and she was about to make a witty joke when the alarm went off.
"Now? Really?" Beastboy whined, he had been looking forward to lying down on his nice soft bed and getting some sleep, right after a couple of hours on the Gamestation 2. A mission was the last thing he wanted to do right now.
"Complaining won't help. Come on." Raven said and the two Titans made for the common room. They arrived to find the rest of the team already there. Robin was at the computer typing away, identifying the problem.
"Where's the trouble at Robin?" Cyborg asked, Robin typed on the keyboard a few more times and a map appeared on the bigscreen, a blinking red dot marked where the trouble was at.
"Someone is trying to break into a house at Glowing Meadow Estates." Robin answered.
"Is that not where the very rich of your people reside?" Starfire questioned.
"Yeah the very rich, who usually have some very dangerous secrets lying around." Raven answered.
"What kind of secrets?" Beastboy inquired, annoyed that he was in the dark.
"Military secrets, weapon technology, perhaps even information on superheroes, that kind of thing." Robin clarified. "Whoever is trying to break in there is no ordinary thief, we're dealing with a pro."
"You think it's Slade?" Cyborg asked.
"Maybe…" Robin replied, Beastboy was staring at the screen, deep in thought, wasn't Glowing Meadow Estates the same area Stacy was staying at? A feeling of apprehension gripped him as he pulled out his cell phone, the one he used to keep civilian contacts. He went through his list and pulled up Stacy's information.
It matched the address on the bigscreen, the changeling's face paled, Stacy was in danger.
"We have to get there NOW!" Beastboy shouted, already running for the exit.
"Wait Beastboy! If it really is Slade we need to go in there with a plan!" Robin called out, but it was too late, Beastboy was already halfway to the Tower's roof exit. If he stayed to plan with the rest, then it might be too late for Stacy. He had to get there fast and hope he could hold off whoever it was until the rest of the team arrived.
"Well it was a good night." The green Titan said bitterly to no one in particular as he arrived on the roof and morphed into a bird, taking flight.
(Scene Break)*******************
Two minutes later...
In all his years as a Titan, Beastboy never flew as fast as he flew right now. Even so he'd have to trust to luck to keep Stacy safe until he got there. Hopefully, the thief wasn't too bloodthirsty, hopefully Stacy had found a good place to hide. Hopefully….
The changeling shook his head, there were too many factors to consider. All he could do now was get there as fast as he could and hope for the best. He had landed on a roof twenty seconds ago long enough to try and call Stacy, but all he got was voicemail, not a good sign. His mind was racing a mile a minute, who was trying to rob his friend? Why were they doing it? Stacy's family was rich, but did they have access to some classified military information? There were too many damn questions and not enough answers!
Beastboy continued his fast flight, hoping beyond hope he'd get there in time. Being a superhero was really trying at times, one moment you are happily enjoying a night with your friends and the next moment you're flying halfway across a city in order to rescue another friend. It doesn't help that the bad guy has a headstart either.
(Scene Break)********************
"That idiot." Raven hissed, crossing her arms and tapping her fingers impatiently on her bicep. Why was that damned changeling always so reckless? If Slade or Brother Blood was behind this…
The dark girl shook her head, no she couldn't think like that, Beastboy had been through worse situations than this, she knew that from personal experience. Still, he needed to take better care of himself, rushing headfirst into an unknown situation was not the best way to live a long life. She resolved to discuss this with him later.
"Wow, if BB moved like this during the obstacle course training he'd have the record right now." Cyborg said, reading the display in the T-ship. Robin slammed his fist into the side of his compartment.
"He knows better than to go charging in on his own! Whoever this is must be very crazy or very skilled to break into a Glowing Meadows Estate home, their security is top-notch." Robin ranted.
"Perhaps it is an old friend of Beastboy's who's in trouble?" Starfire asked, Cyborg perked up at that while Raven's eyes narrowed.
"Yeah BB did mention he had an old rich friend who had a place there once. Some chick he met when he was a kid, didn't catch her name though." Cyborg mentioned.
"Her name is Stacy." Raven said simply.
"Yeah that was it!" The bionic Titan exclaimed then looked at the cloaked sorceress suspiciously. "How did you know that?"
"I met her a couple of days back." She answered, an evil grin crossed Cyborg's face.
"So what did you think of BB's little friend?" He questioned, Raven leveled a glare at Cyborg's compartment and a moment of silence ensued.
"Really wish I could destroy you by glaring Cyborg." The dark girl finally spoke.
"I take it you didn't like her?" The metallic Titan asked with a triumphant smile.
"What gave me away?" Raven responded sarcastically, at this point Robin had calmed down enough to speak rationally.
"We need to come up with a quick plan for what to do when we arrive. I'd rather keep the improvisation as little as possible so listen up, I'll only be able to say this once and then we'll probably be at our destination." The masked Titan announced, Raven grumbled, but kept her ears open for Robin's plan. She thought of chasing after Beastboy the moment he took off, but Robin was right. The changeling could be walking into a trap and only thing worse than one Titan getting caught in a trap, was two Titans.
(Scene Break)*******************
Stacy did not like being tied up, she also especially hated it when some unknown stranger tried to break into her father's vault and steal something from it, her dad was going to kill her. One moment, she was enjoying her Gamestation 2 and the next she felt something hit the back of her head. When the brown-haired petite girl woke up she was tied up and someone using a distorted voice changer told her to sit tight then took off in the vault's direction.
She could hear the sounds of the intruder trying to saw their way through her dad's vault. She mentally chuckled, good luck with that, those doors were reinforced Titanium, it would take them like an hour to breach it with the best saws money could buy. Even if they did, a heavy duty circuit within the vault door would deliver an electric shock powerful enough to take down an elephant. Stacy was confident the vault would hold, at least until Garfield got back on his Gamestation 2 and realized she wasn't on. Once her green friend realized she was in trouble, this loser would wish they'd never been born.
As the minutes dragged on however, the petite brunette's confidence began to falter. Surely the thief would have hit the electric circuit by now, but the sawing continued. Stacy paled as the unthinkable entered her mind, if this person was successful in getting past the vault and getting what was in there they'd have their hands on some very dangerous stuff. Stuff that couldn't be allowed to leave here.
The sawing stopped and Stacy heard the telltale sound of something very heavy crashing down onto the floor. She couldn't believe it, this thief had succeeded in breaching her father's vault! She redoubled her efforts to get free, but her bindings were just way too tough. Besides how was she going to stop the thief even if she did get untied? She wasn't exactly an expert martial artist or superhero.
Another crash was heard as a green rhinoceros plowed through the houses front door's, knocking them off their hinges and slamming them down onto the floor. The rhinoceros immediately reverted back into the familiar form of Garfield, the changeling's eyes darted around until they finally caught sight of Stacy. He called her name and ran up to her.
"Are you okay?" He asked her, trying to pull the bindings off and failing, she nodded.
"I'm alright." She verified, "Gar, listen to me, the thief is still here! They've stolen something very important to my father, you can't let them get away!"
"But…" The green Titan began to protest.
"I'm fine!" She hissed, "All they did was tie me up, but if that thief gets away from here with what they've stolen then a lot of innocent people will be in danger! He was just at the vault in the back of the house! Go!" Beastboy hesitated just a moment before morphing into a cheetah and darting towards the back of the house.
The sight that greeted the changeling was a three-foot thick slab of Titanium lying on the ground. A matching hole, just large enough for an adult, was on the door. Beastboy cursed, he was too late, a quick scan inside the vault revealed the thief was not there. He was about to give up and go back to Stacy when he heard the sound of a door opening above him. The thief must be trying to make his escape from the roof! Not wasting another second, Beastboy morphed into a bird and flew up several flights of stairs. Once there he found a door ajar, which he guessed must be the access to the roof.
The green Titan ran through the door and entered the roof. A quick glance around revealed an antenna with a console at its base, a red light kept blinking repeatedly on the screen. Probably a silent alarm, the thief must've triggered it earlier, which set off the Titan's alarm, or maybe he did when he burst through the front door, he didn't really care about that at the moment.
There was only one other thing of interest on the roof and that was the air conditioning unit, a big block of metal keeping conditions in the house at a comfortable room temperature. It was not the unit itself though that grabbed Beastboy's attention, it was the object near it. He ran up to the small object and knelt down to examine it, the thing was very familiar, but he couldn't quite place it.
"Don't move." A distorted voice said from behind him, Beastboy tensed, this guy was good, he didn't even hear the thief sneak up behind him. "Nice try Elf, but you should quit chasing me, wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you right?"
Beastboy mentally cursed, this was not good.
