Dreams

Chapter 26: A Series of Dreams

"Thank you, Miss Yowane!" Rin chimed after she put her luggage next to a shelf of books. "Without you, I don't know where I should stay."

Haku gave her a grim look and said, "If you dare to do anything funny here, I won't hesitate to chase you out. This is my house so you should obey my rules."

"Alright, I understand!" Rin scanned the house which was very neat and tidy because it was even tidier than her house. "Your house is so neat. Do you live alone?"

"Yes."

"That's cool!"

"It's not," Haku muttered as she carefully arranged Rin's and her shoes at the foyer. "It's too quiet to my liking."

Rin noticed the change in the tone of her manager. She sounded sad all of the sudden, even her facial expression portrayed so. Rin looked around the apartment again. The apartment was small but slightly bigger than Len's apartment, of course, yet there weren't anything much inside. Everything looked simple and plain, no fanciful stuffs, just the basic funitures like the table, chairs, couch and so on. But there was something on the shelf which caught her attention. It was a small framed photograph depicting a couple, one of whom was Haku. She was so beautiful in picture; her hair was let down with small curls at the tip, her blouse looked loose yet it fitted her so perfectly, and she was laughing joyfully with the good-looking man next to her. Who knew Haku could make such a face? She always looked stern and grouchy to Rin.

"Who's he?" Rin pointed at the photograph and looked curiously at Haku. "Your boyfriend?"

Almost immediately, Haku slammed the photograph against the shelf, letting it face downwards. Then, she faced Rin with a crooked smile which looked undoubtedly horrible.

"He's somebody I don't know. Just some random guy I took picture with during one of blind dates I went last time. Good timing... I was about to throw this away," Haku spoke in rapid staccato as she picked up the photograph and took it to the kitchen. "Oh yes, Miss Kagamine, please unpack your stuffs in the guest room. The 'guest room' tag is labelled on the door. Go find it yourself."

"O... Okay," Rin gave a soft awkward reply and picked up her luggage.

Upon hearing a soft click, Haku assumed that Rin had found the room so she gradually brought the small framed photograph, which she hid behind her, out in front of her. She gently placed her finger on the man's face and carefully traced the outline of the upper part of his body.

Her eyes softened as she whispered in a shaky voice, "Hey, how are you doing today?"

-:-:-:-

Rin bounced on the relatively soft bed much to her surprise. It was too soft for a bed in a guest room, not as soft as her own bed though. After observing her bed, she lazily crawled to her luggage and opened it, then rummaged through her clothes. Her eyes glistened as she dug out a red plastic bag among the messy pile of clothes. As she stared at the red thing, her lips slowly curled into a small smile. That was a gift from Len.

She took out a rectangular box from the plastic bag and opened it carefully, revealing a note, charger, a pair of earpieces, a few pieces of folded paper, and an orange handphone.

How did he know that she had always wanted a handphone? Closing her eyes, she thought hard and finally, she recalled that she had mentioned to him once before. Feeling touched and happy, she did not expect him to remember it, not to mention getting her one too. So, he was not a senile old man after all. She laughed.

She fiddled with her new handphone and hunted for the 'on' button like a small child exploring a new toy for her first time. After seeing a icon which looked like the 'on' button on her mini-television, she pressed it and waited to see if there was anything flashed on the screen. It did after a few seconds. After that, she felt a soft vibration from the handphone and a notification popped out.

Curiously, she clicked on the middle button which then reveal a message on the screen. A message from an unknown number but as she read the words in the message, she came to know who the sender was.

'Congratulation for passing the audition! I've gotten you an orange handphone. Hope you don't mind about it... since you like orange puddings. Anyway, start saving your friends' contact numbers today! Hahahaha!'

Her face grew warmer and no doubt that it turned deep red. He was the one who picked the number for her and send her a message! Her first text message was received from Len! Oh, that unspeakable joy! She mentally screamed. And what about her liking orange pudding? Liking orange flavoured pudding did not mean that she liked the colour orange!

That man...

Doing whatever he liked... was so like him at all.

As she smiled shyly to herself, she hit the reply button and keyed in 'thank you' with a smiley-faced emoticon before replying him.

"Miss Kagamine," Haku called out and knocked on the door, startling Rin. "Please sleep early tonight. Don't you have lessons tomorrow?"

"Yes! Okay..." Rin's voice died down as she stared at the door in slow realisation.

Did she have lessons tomorrow? She thought...

"Wait... Do I have to..."

"Excuse me," Haku interrupted her as she opened the door, revealing a smirk on her face which seemed to have a hint of sadism to Rin, shockingly. "Didn't you read the conditions properly? It was clearly stated on the contract."

Rin grimaced. Of course, she did not read the whole entire document! If her father had not stepped in, she would have spent more time reading it.

"Just to let you know," her manager continued with an evil grin, or so Rin perceived. "I won't work with models who have no brain."

Oh, great!

-:-:-:-

She stood at the edge of the cliff, petrified. Blood drained from her face as she saw the boy submerged into the ocean. The ragging waves swallowed his entire being just like that and there was no sign of him at all.

Just then, she saw someone in a familiar purple dress standing next to her with a look of hatred and disgust as that person hissed softly, "It's all your fault... Kagamine."

Without any warning, that person pushed her down the cliff and before she knew what was happening, her surrounding began to swirl and changed into a large, dimly-lit conventional hall with a huge stage and a long aisle in the midde. Before her were blinking flashes of light and audience seated behind a dark-coloured velvet cloth-like rope as they cheered and waving their banners high up in the air. She stood rooted on the stage, still very confused of what was going on around her, and suddenly, a spotlight flashed down upon her. Almost immediately, the audience's cheers died down and cameras stopped flashing bright lights.

"Rin Kagamine, you've made it thus far. What a pity that you've to let your efforts go down the drain."

Startled by the feminine voice blasted from the speakers, she looked around frantically and noticed a silhouette standing at the other end of the aisle. Judging by the good body figure, she guessed that person was either a model or an idol.

"Len... you're a liar."

Her eyes widened and she pointed at herself questionably.

Len? Did that person mistake her for that cab driver?

"It's all your fault."

Her fault? What had she done wrong?

"Liar... liar... liar..." that person chanted as the spotlight slowly moved towards the silhouette. "If you hadn't appear..."

The orange spotlight stopped at the feet of the black figure, showing the black high heels and the lower part of the glittering purple dress.

"... he wouldn't break his promise."

Still confused, she continued to stare at the figure as it began to move closer to her. The figure slowly revealed herself under the bright orange light but stopped when half of the body was shone while the upper half of the body remained a mystery to her, except for a small bluish-golden glowing thing which seemed to be the eye. Like that of a spiral, everything vanished before her but what left in the centre of nowhere was the glowing eye of the unknown figure.

"Miss Kagamine!"

Rin let out a scream as her body sprang upwards, only to find herself staring face to face with her startled manager. Beads of perspiration trickled down her forehead as she panted heavily as if she had ran a marathon. She shook her head and then blinked her eyes many times, trying to make out what had happened earlier. That purple-dressed figure was no longer there and her surrounding was reverted back to the guest room.

"You're awake. Get up," Haku said monotonously and walked towards the door. "It's time for school."

Rin rubbed her eyes and stared at Haku's back as she walked out of the room, leaving Rin behind feeling all confused. Her eyes slowly trailed to the clock which was hanging on the wall and she realised something.

Yes, she had a dream. A series of weird dreams, to be exact. But it seemed so real that she thought she had to agree with her parents for once about defamation. What if those dreams were to come true in the future? Wasn't that bad?

As she stared down at the orange handphone placed next to her pillow, her hands began to tremble and she mouthed to herself, "Len Kagamine..."

Why did he appear to be the one suffering in her dream?

Hi guys, I'm finally back after a long break. Not really a break to me though... I was extremely busy and I could not believe I stopped writing for three months! There's so many things to catch up now, especially in this fanfic. I got this feeling that this story won't be ending anytime soon. Not that I want it to end fast but there are too many things going on in the future chapters. Fifty chapters are probably not enough... Okay, I will try to keep within fifty chapters! Set!

While I was away, I received lots of reviews and PMs. Some reminded me that it is already March and I should update fast. I'm always checking my mails and I realised that my readers still remembered about this story even though it was on hiatus for so long. I would like to thank these people for reminding me but I'm sorry that I could only update now.

So, here is the start of the new arc of Dreams! Yay! \(^u^)/

Chapter 27: The Man in Black Coat

Clearing her throat, Haku continued in a monotone voice, "The director wants your first public appearance as a model, actually not really a debut though, to be made in a comedy variety show. Isn't that a great idea?"

Rin's head turned back quickly and faced the already smirking manager. Did she just say comedy variety show? What the hell was that? Did the director treat her modelling debut as a joke? She wanted to yell those questions out loud, but her mouth was hanging open and her jaw was totally stiffened by the so-called great idea.

"Before you start lashing out your five 'w's and one 'h' questions, I would like to add that the fashion designer who was supposed to make your outfit for that variety show has officially retired. So, for now, the director and I will try our best to find a new one while you've to concentrate on equipping yourself with the needed skills and don't have to worry a thing."

She didn't have to worry a thing? Rin scowled. There was no way she did not have to worry about herself! Making her first debut in a comedy variety show? Who did they think she wanted to be? A comedian? A comedian-model?
