A/N: All right ladies and gents, from now on I will be outlining a basic plot for this story. You'll see a structure emerge and if I'm not original enough you might even be able to guess what comes next. I thought I might do this because of the unstructured nature of this story so far … I want to clean that up.
Maya sat on her bed after the battle and reflected on what had happened. The tubular manifestation had been removed and vaporized by the eye of Odin. Now the massive hole in the planet was being used as directed by the team of building supervisors.
Maya was alone, and at the moment that was how she preferred it. After she had come back from the 'illumination' run Maya had been stopped by the currier who had given her a package. The woman had advised, "Only open it while on your bed, with the door closed. I've been told there's some private stuff in there."
Maya stared down at the package in her lap, and after a moment using her knife opened the box; inside was a stack of pictures sitting next to an audio recording. First Maya grabbed the photos and began to look at each one of them. There were only 10 in the stack and based on the dates on the back Maya separated them into a few piles.
The first 2 Maya grabbed were both of Axton, the first one showed him standing alone in a pose with both his hands held at the small of his back. He was standing up straight looking directly out of the photo and had a grim expression on his face. Even though it was a photo the expression in his face and eyes conveyed so much support that Maya wasn't surprised when she checked the back of the photo and found Axton's private number.
The next two were of Gaige standing in much the same position as Axton had been, except the second one of Gaige had her holding a sign that read "I miss you" in an untidy but legible scrawl. Maya smiled at this and knew that Gaige was improving in the mental aspect; she was an ace at Vault Hunting but had neglected the other part of being human. The smarts were essential … or at least that's what Maya had convinced her of.
There was a picture of Krieg, Salvador, Zero, Lilith, Mordacai and … Brick. The one Maya had been expecting to see was not there. Maya put the photos back in the box, but not before searching the cardboard for a photo of Tiny Tina. She didn't find one so Maya just picked up the ECHO recording, switching it on Maya turned down the volume and listened in.
"Hello, if you're listening to this you're sitting on a military bunk, on a strange planet, and whoever was in charge just used you like some expendable tool. It's either that or I'm dead, yeah sucks. Well anyhow I just wanted to tell you that I'm … in some trouble. No worries thought it's about time too, I've been experimenting with some of the technology inside Helios station."
There was more to the message but at that moment, Maya's acute senses picked up someone sneaking closer to listen it. Maya shut off the ECHO, but not before saving her place. She looked up at the doorway leading into the room she was currently sitting in, she inquired, "Can I help you?"
"I hope the escapade with the master kraken didn't disturb you," The man said, holding his had behind his back. His uniform was nondescript. This was meant to be an honest conversation and Maya wouldn't know if the man was her superior or not.
"To be honest I didn't know what happened. Was I even useful out there?"
"Yes in fact you may have saved us after all!" The man said still standing in the doorway. "The master kraken was distracted by all the … strange elements radiating from your body."
"Strange elements, I thought they were the normal ones."
"Yes, well normal on Pandora perhaps … or wherever you came from. Doesn't matter either way, the elements on Acheron are much different from those on a planet like say, Pandora."
"So, when I was out there you're saying I actually helped?" Maya asked and the man nodded. "Is that all, sir?"
The man gave a tight smile, "No not quite. The scientists, and I can't really stop them on this, were observing you very closely when you were out there. So far the top DAHL scientists are stumped on exactly what you are. It's a complete mystery."
"And how should that concern me?" Maya asked.
The man responded, "It shouldn't for now. All I'm doing here is telling you ahead of time, just so you're aware if the scientists get a little to antsy around you. They get nervous about people they don't understand."
"I could help you out, but I won't."
"I understand privacy and all. But if you do so decide to tell us the exact nature of you … powers than perhaps we could allow you to become and embrace the Siren you are," After that the man left and the room was silent and empty once more.
Maya then focused back to the ECHO recording from Tiny Tina, she resumed playing it.
"Now I can't reveal exactly what I've discovered, but I'm pretty sure it'll help out us a lot. Anyways I just wanted to thank you for taking down Handsome Jack, appreciate that. And … weeeelllll I miss you. Can you come back? Probably not, anyway love you Maya."
Tears came to Maya's eyes as the contemplated Tiny Tina's message. She wiped away the tears however, a soldier didn't cry ... at least in Maya's eyes. Taking special care Maya placed the ECHO recorder back in the box, then taking another moment placed the photos in as well. Maya replaced the lid and slid the entire box under her bunk.
