I liked writing this chapter a lot, hopefully you enjoy reading it. Thanks for your reviews, I love knowing what you think! Also, I haven't said this in a long time but I own none of the characters from Grey's Anatomy, or any story line familiar to the show. I just use them to write this story.
Three Months Later
Arizona stood in the kitchen mixing pancake batter and singing along to the music that was quietly playing from the radio. She hadn't slept that well the night before and when light poured into the bedroom through the crack in-between the curtains at 7 a.m she couldn't stand the tossing and turning she had done all night anymore so she pulled herself out of bed and headed to the kitchen to make some breakfast. The apartment was quiet and the silence was uncomfortable so she had put on the radio to have some background noise. She tried to focus on not burning any of the food she was making but her thoughts kept drifting to someone who wasn't in her life anymore and what that meant when it came to a day that was fast approaching, a day she didn't find much joy in celebrating.
Callie was working an overnight shift at the hospital and was currently staring at the clock on the wall in the emergency room. When asked if she could cover the ER a few days before, she wanted to say no, because it meant a night away from Arizona but the hospital was low on staff these days so she agreed. It was a quiet night, though no one ever said that out loud in fear of jinxing it, and she had spent most of her time catching up on paperwork and studying for her board certification exams which were closing in on her quickly. After checking her pager again to make sure she hadn't missed any pages, she watched the clock hit the lucky number and she jumped up from the seat she was sitting in behind the ER nurses station and started gathering her things.
"Done for the day?" Lexie asked as she spotted Callie when she came into the ER to get something before starting her morning rounds.
Callie looked up at Lexie and nodded. "Hey, yeah I am. And i'm dead tired, I can't wait to get home and fall into bed."
"Busy night?"
"No, thank god. I was really lucky."
"You were, the last time I had to be in the ER overnight I barely had time to stop and drink water."
"That's rough, I'm so glad that wasn't the case for me."
"Anyways, I've got to go or Dr. Yang will probably yell at me in some sort of sarcastic manner for being late for rounds."
"Bring her a cup of coffee, it might help you get on her good side."
Lexie smiled. "Thanks Callie."
Making her way up to the residents lounge so she could change out of her scrubs, she stopped to grab herself a cup of coffee then quickly changed, grabbed her bag and headed home. The thought of walking into her apartment and seeing those blonde curls and blue eyes she loved so much is what kept her from falling asleep in the elevator on the way up to the apartment.
Just as she was plating the pancakes, bacon and eggs, which she was proud of making flawlessly, Arizona heard a jingling of keys in the hallway outside the front door and instantly felt better when she person she loved more then anything walked inside and shut the door behind her.
"Hey beautiful," Callie said as she dropped her bag and key's on the side table by the door. "What's all this?" she asked when she spotted the food on the table.
"I couldn't sleep so I got up and decided to make breakfast. Timing just worked out."
Callie walked towards Arizona and put her hands on her hips. She smiled and kissed her softly. "Well thank you, it looks delicious."
"How was your shift?"
Callie sat down at the table and Arizona poured them each a cup of coffee before sitting down as well.
"It was good, pretty slow which is fine by me. It gave me a chance to study."
"If you ever want me too, I could quiz you," Arizona said and took a sip of her coffee.
"Oh yeah?"
Arizona smiled. "Of course, and we could make it fun, make a game out of it."
Callie raised her eyebrow and tilted her head. "And what kind of game might that be?"
"The kind that ends in neither of us wearing clothes, like strip poker."
"That's my favourite kind of game, but anything that ends in you wearing nothing is a game i'd enjoy."
"Oh believe me, I'm well aware of that. It's hard to get you to want to do anything else sometimes."
Callie just shrugged and ate some of her pancakes. "I can't help it, and let's be serious, my girlfriend is hot and everyone agrees."
The blonde blushed at Callie's words and looked away with a bashful smile on her face. Arizona had never been in a relationship before where her partner had been so open about their feelings and their attraction. It was definitely something she really enjoyed about her relationship with Callie, and it never failed to make her feel like a shy teenager again who just got a compliment from their crush.
They continued to eat their breakfast, sweet remarks of love and affection flowing easily between them, like it always had. It was Arizona's day off and she was happy that she got to spend it with Callie, who didn't have to go back to work until the next morning, the same time she had to go to work. After they were done breakfast, Callie took a quick shower and Arizona got back into bed and started reading a book she had set aside to read weeks before. Callie came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her, wet freshly washed hair hanging limply around her face. She smiled when she noticed the adorable look of concentration on Arizona's face as she turned the page of her book. Callie walked to the window and pulled the curtains aside to look out and shivered when she noticed how the weather had gone from being a rare sunny and bright day to an overcast and rainy day.
"I am not leaving this apartment today," Callie said as she pulled out a t-shirt and sweatpants from a dresser drawer.
"And why is that?" Arizona asked without tearing her eyes away from her book.
"Because the weather is gross outside, and it's warm and cozy in here."
The phone in the kitchen started to ring just as Callie was pulling on the last of her clothes. Arizona was about tog et off the bed to go out to the kitchen and answer it but Callie told her to stay out and left the room to pick it up. She grabbed it and sat down on the couch before pressing the answer button.
"Hello?"
"Oh Callie dear, hello, it's Barbara."
"Hi Mrs. Robbins, how are you?"
"I'm just fine, and i've told you many times sweetheart, you can call me Barbara, no more of this Mrs. Robbins nonsense."
"Okay, I promise i'll remember next time."
"Good. Now I was wondering if you had anything planned for Arizona's birthday this weekend? Her father and I were thinking of maybe flying out and surprising her."
Callie sat confused for a moment, not saying anything in response. Barbara picked up on her silence.
"Callie? Are you still there?"
"Yea...yeah i'm still here. But to be honest, I didn't even know this weekend was Arizona;s birthday. She's never mentioned anything about her birthday and I never realized that until now. I can't believe I never asked."
"Don't worry Callie, Arizona's always been quiet when it comes to things like that. Ever since Timothy passed, she hasn't thought about her birthday in the same way. She doesn't like to celebrate it, but I thought it might be nice for us to come see her."
"Of course that would be nice, but I want to make sure she feels okay about it. I guess i'll talk to her and see what she says."
"Definitely, just give me a call back when you have an idea. And don't worry about it if she doesn't feel like having us here. We can hold off for a few weeks and make it a late birthday present."
"Okay, thanks Barbara. I'll talk to you later. Tell Mr. Robbins hello for me."
"I will, bye Callie."
The phone disconnected and Callie let it drop in her lap. She wasn't really sure what to do now, if Arizona didn't like her birthday how would she bring up in a conversation the fact that her parents wanted to come visit. What surprised her the most is that she had never even noticed that Arizona's birthday had never come up before, but Arizona knew exactly when her birthday was and had planned a big party with all of their friends. Maybe she could surprise Arizona with a party like that, even though she doesn't like to celebrate, it might be fun to have all her good friends in one place.
"Who was that on the phone?" Arizona looked up from her book and asked when Callie came back into the bedroom.
"It was your mom."
"What did she want? I'm surprised she didn't ask to talk to me."
"She just was wondering when we have some free time next, they were thinking of maybe flying out here."
"Really? I don't know when. Work is pretty hectic these days."
"I know...but she thought maybe with your birthday coming up..."
Arizona sighed and closed her book. She set it down beside her and sat up against the headboard with her arms crossed. "She told you about my birthday."
Callie sat on the edge of the bed near Arizona and nodded. "How come you didn't?"
"Because it's not a big deal. It's just a day like any other and I like to treat it that way. I don't like wasting time and money on something that doesn't really matter all that much."
"But it's the day you were born, that's worth making it special."
"Callie, I know you love your birthday. And I had fun celebrating it with you, but it's just not the same when it comes to my birthday okay? Just leave it alone."
"But it could be."
"You can call my mom back and tell them i'm just too busy to have them out here right now, maybe in a few weeks or something okay? Tell her I appreciate the thought."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, very sure."
"Okay, well i'm going to go do some work on the computer. You enjoy that book."
Arizona didn't reply, she just picked up the book again and continued from where she left off. Callie got up from the bed and left the room, looking over her shoulder at Arizona one more tie before she was out of sight. Callie picked up her laptop and sat on the couch. So Arizona didn't want her parents coming for her birthday, but how would she feel about having a few people over? For drinks and maybe some food. It wouldn't be a big thing, just enough to say it was a party. Callie wanted to celebrate Arizona;s birthday, even if she didn't. It was the day she came into the world and without it, she might not be in Callie's life. To Callie, it was a special day. So she would tell Mark and Lexie, and Christina and Meredith. Not a lot of people, but just enough. Would Arizona be mad? Would she be upset? Callie wasn't sure, but she wanted to take the chance because Arizona might change her mind and end up having fun.
Callie had just finished up a surgery where she assisted on a hip replacement as she was coming out of the scrub room she bumped into Mark Sloan. It was perfect timing because she wanted to speak to him about the small gathering she was planning for Arizona. Small gathering being the important piece of information, she knew for sure that Arizona wouldn't like a big party so a few friends would be the maximum.
"Hey Mark," Callie said.
"Hey Callie, how's it going?"
"Not too bad. I was planning on coming to find you today but now I don't have to. I'm trying to get a few people together on Friday night for Arizona's birthday. Low key, simple, just a small celebration."
"Small? I don't do small parties, especially on a birthday. It's go big or go home, she got a problem against fun or something?" he said.
Callie laughed. "No she doesn't, she just apparently doesn't like making a huge deal out of it. She wouldn't even let her parents fly out, but I thought it might be good for some of the people she's close with some work to come over for a few drinks, just hang out really."
"And you're mentioning this to me because you want me there?"
"Of course, we've become pretty good friends over the past few months, and she can tolerate you which you should be impressed by because very few can."
"Aw, I'm touched. I'll be there. Who else is going?"
"I've already spoken to Derek and Meredith, and Meredith told Christina who will probably bring own. I also think Lexie is coming, and Teddy Altman."
"Sounds like a good crew, count me in. What time?"
"Well she finishes work at 6 and I wanted it to be a little bit of surprise. Remember, don't tell people about this okay? Like I said, we're keeping it simple, low key. Nothing flashy or overdone."
Mark put his hands in the pockets of his scrub pants and nodded. "I've got it Cal, don't worry."
Later that day, after Callie had spoken to everyone she headed up to see her sister who was doing really well with her cancer treatments, the doctors were positive that despite her original diagnosis and what she had been told back in Miami, Aria would beat her cancer and was on the right track in doing so. Aria was just being given lunch by one of the nurses as Callie walked into the room.
"Nice to see you Dr. Torres," the nurse said as she was leaving the room.
Callie pulled a chair up beside the bed like usual and plopped herself down on it. "Hey sis, how's it going?"
Aria looked at the food on her plate then at Callie. "Things would be better if this food was more edible."
"I feel yah on that one. that's why I'm not usually found in the cafeteria at lunch time unless Arizona is there."
"So you bring food?"
"Yeah, or I just don't eat much."
"Maybe next week you could bring me some food?" Aria said. "I hate to ask when you're busy with work but I haven't had really good food in a long time."
"It's no trouble Aria, I can make some stuff at home and bring in some for you."
"Thank god, hospital meatloaf, or what i'm told is meatloaf..." Aria picked up her fork and poked at the food on her plate, "is really disgusting."
"Dessert is never too bad though. They manage to do that right."
"Enough about food." Aria pushed the rolling tray her food sat on away from her and turned on her side so she could see Callie better. "What's new with you?"
"Eh not much really," Callie shrugged. "Work, home, Arizona, repeat."
"Sounds like a pretty great life to me."
"It is. I like my job, I like my home, I love Arizona. I couldn't really ask for much more. And you're doing really great I hear, which makes me happy."
"It's pretty crazy right?" Aria said as she glanced at the machines around her and the tube going into her vein. "I never thought...I really didn't think i'd be here, and almost be okay. I kind of gave up all thoughts of the future because I didn't have one."
"Well get used to having a future sis," Callie said as she sat back in her chair and put her legs up on the edge of the bed and crossed them, "because you have one. And it's going to big and bright and beautiful. The whole world is waiting for you and you're getting close to being back out there."
"I was speaking to the doctor and she said in a few weeks I can actually leave the hospital. I won't have to be copped up in her anymore, and I just have to come back for my treatments."
Callie noticed how Aria's face seemed to light up at the mention of leaving the confine of hospital, the place that she's basically been a prisoner in for months. It was something anyone that was in her situation would be happy about, a huge accomplishment and something to be proud of, one step closer to being cancer free and in remission. She listened to her younger sister talk, go on and on about all the plans she had for when she was able to leave for good, all the things she missed out on while being in the hospital. It was nice to have a light hearted conversation about such a deep topic.
"I promise to take you to the space needle and show you all the really cool touristy spots, we'll make a big deal out of it," Callie said.
"I can't wait!"
"It'll be fun, and you can maybe stay with me and Arizona if you want too. I'll talk to her but I'm sure she'll be fine with it. You know she loves you."
Aria yawned and Callie knew that was her cue to get going. Being sick was tiring and when energy came, it often came in sporadic bursts and was gone as quickly as it had arrived. "I'm gonna go and let you get some rest," Callie said and got up from her spot in the chair.
"Sorry, I just feel really tired all of a sudden. I hate it when that happens."
"Don't worry about it, you sleep. I should get back to work anyways."
The younger Torres got more comfortable in the bed and pulled the covers up. "Tell Arizona I say hi," she said. And just like that the fatigue took over and she was asleep.
Just as she stepped into the elevator, Callie was paged to the ER for an ortho consult. She knew she'd get stuck down there and stopped to grab an apple at one of the coffee cart's that sold a few food items. She ate it quickly and threw away the core just as she walked into the emergency room. She spotted Arizona talking with a nurse by a bed that had a young boy laying on it. Beside the bed were two worried parents and she watched how Arizona focused back on them and they instantly looked much calmber. Arizona had that affect on people, she was an incredible doctor and Callie felt nothing but pride as she watched her for a moment longer before finding the person who paged her.
The night of Callie's little surprise party for Arizona had arrived and since the conversation about her birthday after her mom had called, Callie hadn't spoken to Arizona about it again. She was home and getting everything ready while Arizona was still at the hospital in surgery. There were snacks for people on the counter and a few bottles of wine as well. Callie had a special gift for Arizona sitting in a bag in the bedroom that she would get to open later and until then it was all down to their close friends showing up and the reaction of a pretty blonde. There was knock on the door and Callie opened it to find Teddy Altman who had offered to come a little early and help with anything else that was needed.
"So she has no idea this is happening?" Teddy asked as Callie poured her a glass of wine.
"No, but I don't think that's a problem. It's only about 6 or 7 people, nothing she's not used to," Callie said.
"Why is her birthday such a bad thing?"
"To be honest, i'm not so sure. Her mom said it had something to do with her brother, and that she just thinks celebrating it isn't necessary. I didn't feel like prying."
"I've never met a person who didn't look forward to and enjoy having a part of celebrating their birthday."
"Me neither, but who am I to judge? I just knew I would feel bad if I let it pass by without doing anything."
"Yeah, anyone would, especially when it's your significant other."
"Speaking of significant others, how's things with Henry?"
Teddy blushed at the mention of him. "Things are really good."
"I can tell, your cheeks just turned two shades darker."
"Oh shut up," Teddy said. "You know how it feels to finally be really happy with someone right? We all saw it with you and Arizona. For the first time in a long time, that's how i'm feeling."
"It is nice isn't it? I'm really happy for you Teddy. And I cant believe how long me and Arizona have already been together. Time goes by so fast."
Teddy looked at the clock on the wall and drained the remaining wine from her glass. "Speaking of time, everybody should be here soon."
Within the next twenty minutes their friends showed up and everybody got ready to surprise Arizona. Callie was feeling nervous and she wished she wasn't, she really didn't know how Arizona would react. Because she knew so little about why Arizona was reluctant to celebrate her birthday, knowing only what Arizona's mom had told her which was vague, she just hoped Arizona could enjoy the company of their friends and just have fun evening. Everything was about to be revealed when Callie got a text from arizona saying she was on her way to the apartment and that surgery had run a little long.
"Okay guys," Callie said as she rushed around and picked her position right by the door, "she's almost here so be quiet."
Arizona slid her key into the lock and turned the handle. She was not anticipating what was on the other side and waiting in her apartment. Her plan was to come home and maybe order some chinese food and relax with Callie, but that definitely isn't what she was getting.
"Surprise! Happy Birthday" the small group of the people in the room yelled excitedly in unison, Callie being one of those people. Arizona stood in the doorway, mouth agape, not exactly sure what to do.
"Wha-what is this?" she asked.
"It's a party, a small one, for your birthday," Callie replied taking a few steps towards her. "I know you said you don't like treating it like a special day even though it is, I wanted to at least do something for you."
"Callie, I told you I don't do my birthday. We...we talked about this! I don't want this, I don't like celebrating this day. I told you that!"
Their friends stood silently, watching the argument unfold between the couple, everyone suddenly feeling a little awkward and unsure of what to do next.
"Arizona..." Callie said quietly. "Come on, these are your friends, it doesn't have to be a big deal, we can all just hang out and drink wine and have fun."
The blonde took a step back, away from Callie. She looked around at the other people in the room and then shook her head. "I can't, I-I've got to go."
"What? Go where?"
"I don't know," Arizona snapped. "Anywhere, I just can't be here right now."
And then she was gone. The sound of the door closing behind her echoed throughout the room. Callie's eyes were fixed on the doorway, where she just watched Arizona's retreating form leave through. She almost forgot she wasn't alone until she heard someone cough. She turned around and looked at the people who were nice enough to take time out of their own lives to get together for Arizona, and now Callie felt bad for making them all show up.
"Well that was a big flop," Christina said, breaking the uncomfortable silent haze that had settled over everyone.
"Do you want us to go Callie?" Lexie asked.
Callie looked at the alcohol and food on the counter and decided since everyone was already here, there was no sense in sending people home. "No, you guys can stay. Please drink and eat, you're already here so you might as well."
This time it was Mark who spoke. "Are you sure?"
"Yes," she nodded. "I'm sure. You can put some music on and i'm just going to uh...I'm gonna head to the bedroom for a minute. You guys please have fun."
Callie entered her and Arizona;s bedroom and shut the door behind her. She looked at the bag on the bed and the flowers she had gotten that sat in a vase on Arizona's bed side table. She really thought Arizona wouldn't mind having just a few friends over, and their closest friends to be precise. How had she gotten it so wrong? She checked her phone to see if Arizona had let her know where she was going but there were no messages. Callie sighed and laid back on the bed. Starting at the ceiling she thought about Arizona, and only Arizona. How she was hoping to see those famous dimples and sparkling blue eyes when Arizona saw the room full of people who loved her and enjoyed her company, how she would give her a deep and sensual kiss and whisper happy birthday in her ear and once all of their friends had gone home, she would give Arizona her gift. A lacy set of lingerie she picked out specifically for Arizona, who at one time mentioned how much she would love to see the tan curvy latina skin belonging to her girlfriend wrapped in it. Callie knocked the bag off the bed and closed her eyes. There was a knock on the bedroom door and Mark poked his head in.
"Hey, you alright?" he asked.
"Just peachy."
He opened the door wider and walked into the room, then closed the door again, shutting them out from the rest of the world. "She'll come back tonight, she's just blowing off some steam."
"Steam she wouldn't need to blow off if it weren't for me."
"I think she already had a bit of her own steam building up inside. Nobody acts like that unless there's a real reason Callie."
"You think?"
"I saw the look on her face Callie, there's more to what she was feeling then meet's the eye."
"Wow Mark, you're being very insightful right now." Mark laughed and patted her leg. She looked up at him and smiled. "Thank you."
"It's what friends are for, and as your friend i'm going to ask if you plan on wallowing in here the whole time we're out there enjoying this little get together that you planned, or are you going to join us?"
Callie sat up and sighed. "I don't really know, it doesn't feel right being at a party I planned for Arizona when she's not even here."
"It's her loss Cal. Come on, at least have one drink."
"Fine," she said and let Mark take her hand and pull her up from the bed. "I'll have a glass of wine, and then I think in maybe an hour you guys should all head home. I don't know when Arizona will be back and I don't want anyone here when she get's home."
"Do you think she'll send you message?" Mark asked as they left the bedroom.
"I'm not sure, she hasn't yet."
He ruffled her hair and dragged her into the kitchen where everyone was laughing and various conversations were taking place. "One glass for you," Mark said and handed her a wine glass, "and when you're done we'll get out of your hair."
Callie had cleaned up after everyone and made sure there was no evidence relating to a birthday celebration, or what should have been one. Decorations were tucked away in a box and garbage from food and drinks had all been thrown away. The apartment was silent and dimly lit and Callie sat in a big plush chair by the window watching the cars and the Seattle night life pass by down below. Arizona had been gone four hours, and their friends had left two hours before Callie chose her position by the window.
Arizona had left the apartment building and went to sit on a bench in one of the parks close by. It was cool night and she was glad to have her jacket on. Part of her felt bad for reacting the way she did, seeing the look of guilt and hurt pass over Callie's face almost made Arizona want to put aside her feelings and take her girlfriend in her arms and say it was alright, but she couldn't. Her brother Tim had always considered a birthday to be the most important day of the year, the day they were brought into the world. A person should be treated like they were a king or queen, and he made sure she was on her birthday. He always had to be the one to make his little sister feel like the most special person on the planet. Tim would make sure the house was decorated perfectly and Arizona would have her favourite meal for dinner. He would wake her up the morning of her birthday by singing the birthday song horribly off key and it never failed to make her smile. When he died, the day just became a reminder of how great things used to be, how lively and happy everything was when he was alive. It was one of the hardest days for her to face because it held some of her best memories of her brother. Arizona of course, never told Callie any of this because she thought it was just easier to never bring it up. If she never talked about it, Callie might never ask. But her mom had called and told Callie what she didn't want her to know, at least not yet. Finally she gathered enough strength to head home and face whatever was waiting for her, it wasn't fair to Callie to stay out all night.
Callie never heard the door open and she didn't realize Arizona was standing behind her until she heard a creak in the floorboards. She looked over her shoulder and saw Arizona standing by the bookshelf wall wearing a sheepish expression. Callie sighed and Arizona moved a chair over by the window and sat down across from her.
"Hi," Arizona said quietly.
"Hi."
"I should have let you know where I went..."
Callie looked out the window again, avoiding her girlfriend's eyes which were felt like they burning a hole into her. "Yeah you should have."
"I'm sorry Callie."
"Don't be sorry Arizona, it's my fault."
Their eyes finally met, and Arizona's were full of sympathy. The normally bright blue eyes were softer with tears threatening to spill from them.
"There's just so much more to this day then it being a birthday," Arizona said and wiped away a tear that rolled down her cheek.
"You could have told me, I wouldn't have done all of this if I had known more about why you didn't like celebrating today."
"You didn't deserve to be yelled at, I should have stayed, I-I should have reacted differently."
Callie got up and moved so she was kneeling in front of Arizona. "Hey, it's okay. Please don't cry."
Arizona couldn't help it and tears fell from her eyes and Callie tried to catch and wipe away each one as it came. "I want to talk to you about this, I really do. I didn't before but now I'm ready."
"Arizona, I can see it's hard for you. Talk about it when you know you can because there's no rush okay? You know i'm not going anywhere."
"Thank you. For everything, for trying to do something nice for me even if I was an ass about it."
"Come here." Callie stood up and pulled Arizona with her towards the couch. She sat down and Arizona sat closely beside her, practically on her lap. Callie cupped the blonde's face in her hands and kissed her. She felt Arizona relax and smile into the kiss. Callie wrapped her arms around the smaller woman and hugged her tightly, never wanting to let her go.
"Do you feel better?" she asked.
Arizona nodded. "You always make me feel better. And I meant what I said, I am ready to talk to you about it."
"If you're willing then i'm ready."
"It's because of my brother. My birthday used to be great, incredible really, and it was all because of him. He was the kind of person who loved holiday's, especially birthday's. Mine was one of his favourites because he liked seeing me so happy, he liked seeing my face when I saw the decorations he hung up and the food my parents made especially for me. I can still hear him singing happy birthday to me like it was yesterday. The sound is so crystal clear in my head. This day used to be the best of the year, but without him it can't be that day."
Callie understood now. When Arizona's mother had mentioned Tim in their conversation she never clued in on the importance of him. "That's why you don't like celebrating your birthday anymore. Because everything about the day reminds you of him."
"It's just hard for me to act like I would act when he was around. It doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel like it should. There's this big piece of my life missing and I always notice it more on my birthday."
"It's okay," Callie said and stroked Arizona's cheek with her thumb. "You don't need to say anymore. I get it, and I know what you're feeling. I didn't even think it had anything to do with your brother, if I had we could have avoided all of this."
Arizona kissed Callie again and kept her eyes closed afterwards. "I love you."
"I love you too. I did get you a gift, but it can wait. I like it here."
"Was everyone mad when I left?" Arizona asked.
"Not really," Callie said. "You know our friends, there was food and alcohol and I let them hang around for a while so everyone was fine."
Arizona smiled. "Good. I'm glad you guys could at least enjoy it. I'm glad I didn't ruin everything."
"Hey, you didn't ruin anything."
"You're just saying that," Arizona said and laughed a little bit. "I saw the look on everyones faces. They've probably never seen me act that way."
"I don't think they have, but now they know there's many sides to Arizona Robbins."
"Hah, very true. The good, the bad, and the ugly."
Callie poked Arizona in the side and shook her lightly. "No you goof. The beautiful, the honest and the real."
They sat on the couch for a while longer and were both almost passed out complete when Arizona blinked her eyes open, remembering something Callie had said. "Hey, you said you had a gift for me..."
"Hmm?" Callie mumbled.
"A gift. You told me you had a gift for me. Is it too late to know what it is?"
The brunette laughed and sat up straight. "Of course you would remember that. I'm not so sure you can handle the gift I got you, but if you think you can, then meet me in the bedroom in ten minutes."
Arizona sat up on her knees and looked at Callie with puppy dog eyes. "Can I have a hint?"
"No way. Cant you be patient for just a little while? I promise it will be worth the wait."
"Pleeeease!" Arizona begged and started to tickle Callie.
"Stop it or you won't get anything!"
Arizona raised her hands in defeat and scooted back on the couch away from Callie. "Fine fine, go do whatever it is you need to do then."
"Thank you." Callie smoothed out her shirt and headed to the bedroom to change into her gift for Arizona. Once she pleased with her appearance in the mirror she called for Arizona to come into the room but told her to cover her eyes.
"I'm entering the room now and my hands are over my eyes. I swear I'm not peaking."
Callie sat on the edge of the bed and told Arizona she could open her eyes. When she did, her mouth was instantly dry and she felt her body automatically react to the vision that was her girlfriend.
"Wow...you uh...you got some..." she gulped and raked her eyes down Callie's scantily clad body. "You got some lingerie..."
"Do you like it?" Callie asked.
Arizona nodded and walked towards Callie. She put her hands on the tan thighs in front of her and made sure she memorized every inch of the body. She never wanted to forget this image.
"I don't think that question even needs to be asked Callie."
"Happy Birthday Arizona."
