My best intentions loving you
Post 4x14. I gave you a ring and I promised you things I always thought we'd do but my best laid plans slip right trough my hands to show my love for you. After Finn finds out Rachel is pregnant, he's determined to make it right and be with the love of his life again, only he knows it won't be easy.
A/N: hello beautiful people! We've almost reached 200 reviews! Yay that makes me so happy and glad I had the chance to give Finchel some sense of closure! Anyways when I think the story is over the character just have a life of their own, it seems! I hope you enjoy this and well, this and next chapter will work as a set up for our next story! I hope you still stick around for that one as we see Finchel grow up alongside Cory!
I don't own Glee, just words and the adorableness that's baby Cory Hudson.
Chapter 26:
"So will you do it?" Finn looked down at his hands. He had just been offered to cover for Mr. Menkins's class for the rest of the week and it freaked him out. Sure, it wasn't like he couldn't teach, on the contrary, he was ready for it since taking over for Shue when he went to Washington, but they was the thing, he knew those kids and they were younger, his peers, he wasn't so sure he'd do good enough.
"Finn?" The man known as Jay Menkins was his history teacher, one subject that against all odds, he'd manage to grow fond of, to the point of loving. But even Finn knew this was an usual request. Still, Jay had told him it was because of his high scores it last months tests that he'd gotten the chance to prove himself.
"Alright, I'll do it." He shook hands. No way to back down now.
"Don't beat yourself up Finn." Sophie said later that day."you're the only one out of all of the freshman body to have taught a class."
"Yeah." He said shyly whisking on his chips. "But it was Glee, I mean it's different."
"How?"
"Those were kids, kids who didn't scare the crap out of me, not all the time anyway." Sophie laughed.
"You'll do fine Hudson. Trust me."
"Of course you'll do amazing Finn!" Kurt said behind his brother, clearly he'd been listening the whole time.
"What's with you people and privacy? It's that a town thing?"
"No." Finn glanced back at Kurt. "But clearly it's a problem."
"Relax concrete princess." Kurt said annoyed. "I just mean well."
"I doubt it." Sophie muttered and Kurt gave Finn a look.
"Finn, shouldn't you be picking up Cory from Shelby's?"
"Rachel is doing it, she's got that interview with her producer tonight, they're going over the whole baby logistics thing." Yes, Rachel had told him she was planing to audition for the role of Fanny Brice, her dream role. And he'd been supportive, mostly. He'd asked her how she planned to balance that and school, plus helping him raise Cory. He didn't really want to be the bad guy here, but wasn't she the one freaking out about leaving the baby on his own five minutes before? They had argued. And she said she was willing to give it a try and so did he, Finn really wasn't in the position nor did he have the energy to argue. They'd give it a try only if she threw the Cory factor in the mix and her producers agreed.
She had been reading a book, wide open in her lap, Cory in his play pen beside her, her beautiful now six month old baby just laid there patiently. He was very much like Finn, although they had recently discovered he'd had some of the Berry traits well hidden until he needed them. Like when he was trying to call for attention.
Rachel bit the pen she was holding and stared down at her son. "You think they'll call baby? What if I'm not good enough? I did heard them call me green.."
Cory looked at her with those amber eyes she loved so much. "You'll still think I'm a star when I don't get any roles, won't you Cor?"
The baby fussed. She picked him up and discarded her book, alone at the apartment. Finn, Kurt and Blaine were at work and it wasn't still time for Santana to come and help out with the baby's bath. "Shhhh." She cooed him. He seemed to be sensing her worry and stress. "It's okay..."
She pulled him close to her chest. He'd stopped being breastfed but she found it extremely soothing for him to be able to listen to her heart, much like Finn did when the laid together in bed. Sometimes with the baby sleeping soundly on Finn's chest. Like their three hearts were connected.
"Oh good, you're here!" Kurt said entering the place. "Anything?" She waved her head. "They'll call."
"What if they don't?" She asked.
"Then it wasn't your time, don't think about it too hard Rachel."
"How on earth isn't Fanny Brice my time?" She buffed. Kurt sat next to her.
"Even if you get it, you'll have to throw the Cory factor on them and we don't know how they'll react." They stayed silent for a moment. "Want some tea? I'm gonna start dinner before I find myself in Santana's hungry ways." He patted her leg.
"No, I'm good."
"Suit yourself little diva." Kurt moved to the kitchen. Cory had now fell asleep on Rachel chest.
The phone buzzed.
Then it rang harder.
The two best friends shared an anxious glance.
"Answer it!" Kurt hissed, she stared at the phone for a moment.
She positioned Cory more comfortably.
"Yes?" Silence, Kurt held his breath.
She hung up after a few minutes. Kurt had paced his hands against his ears.
"What? What?!" He rejoined her on the couch, she had her hand over her mouth so she wouldn't scream.
"I've got... I've got a callback!"
Later that night, she had to tell everyone, Kurt had barley managed to keep it a secret for 10 minutes. So she figured it was better if she got it out of the place. She'd look at Finn the whole time. She couldn't read his face.
"Finn?" She had asked later, as they got ready for bed. She warped her arms around his waist. He leaned back into his touch. "You haven't said anything..." He sighed. Pulling her away and silently moving toward the bed, her face full of confusion.
"I said I would support you in everything you did, I've always known you're meant for great things." She grabbed his hand an he pulled her down with him. "And I told you I'd never wanted to stand in the way of your dreams, I would never forgive myself for that, and I also don't plan on letting you decide on your own because that has almost cost us our entire relationship and stakes are higher." He reached for her face, tracing her cheek. "But a lot has changed, and I don't know Rachel."
"So you think I should, not even make myself a possibility?"
"No, you should." He smiled softly. "The world would not mean a Thing if we didn't take chances. You and I are proof of it and so is Cory. But... Before we jump off the cliff." He took her hands in her. "I want you to promise me you won't do this about you, you'll do it about Cory, for him, to him and our family..."
So she said she would and that's why she went to her callback with Finn and baby in tow. Both the lead male role, producers were shocked. But oddly enough they sill wanted her.
"This is for us Finn."
That'd been six weeks ago,the details of the production had been on the wraps for a while, with Rachel Berry cast as Fanny.
Things had not been easy though. Specially at school, people had began to talk. She knew it even though she was barely on campus. She'd listen to Kurt and Blaine whisper about it, here she was, the small town girl who had gotten knocked up and had not been kicked out of the program. This was life and people talked. It was as simple as that. And even though she seemed okay with this. With her choices, her heart broke a little more each time. And Finn knew it.
"Look who's here!" A happy voice snapped Finn out of his thoughts. Rachel and her boy had just walked in. "Good, I need something to calm my nerves!"
"That bad huh?" Kurt smiled.
"Here you go Cor, why don't you sit with daddy for a moment okay?" Finn gave Rachel a slight kiss as she sat next to him.
"So... Should I bring out the champagne or the chocolate Ice cream?" Finn smiled softly. Sophie glanced at Rachel.
"Well, we've talked about the Cory factor and they all seemed supportive enough."
"Why do I feel a but coming?" Finn said totting baby, Cory giggled when Finn pocked his belly.
"No, it's just... I don't know if I can do it all Finn, Cory is too young.."
"You have daycare. And your mother runs it, I don't see how that's a problem." Sophie said. Rachel glared at her, not intentionally of course. Finn smiled wearily.
"I don't want to be an absentee mother, I didn't have Shelby growing up and... Well, I wonder if things had been different..."
"Sophie is right." What? "I'm sure Shelby will help."
"Not my point, still I don't want to talk about here, we're in public." Who did this girl think she was?
"And you two usually end up yelling and fighting, so yes good call, I'm not ready to be fired." Rachel shot him a look. "I have half an hour before my shift over, will you wait for me?"
"Of course bro." Finn focused back on his son. He knew there was no way of getting off Rachel's diva moments, as Kurt called them, more so since she had had the baby.
Yes, there had been yelling, but not over Funny Girl or the baby. It was about Sophie. Finn had not even gotten the chance to tell her about his classes. And it made Puck be on his butt again, about how he always put Rachel first. This time even Blaine and Sam joined in. They were not old enough to drink but Puck had scored some fake ID and bought beer. So they were over at Puck's place which was actually pretty close to the other one, so they had no problem coming and going. The boys sat at the fire escape. There were not enough beers and they didn't get drunk.
Rachel did snap at him again when he got home. "So you'd rather go out drinking than here with your son, nice going Finn."
Talk about being a hypocrite.
"So this is about me then, why is it that I'm always he bad guy Rach?"
"I didn't..",
"Menkins offered me a sub position for a week... I was really proud of myself but all you seemed to want to do is Get me down...",
".I... Finn that's fantastic!" He smiled a bit. Yeah, talk about talking one for the team too.
"He said it could work for my credits and stuff. I might even get paid..."He said calming down.
"I'm really proud of you Finn, that's great news!"
"Yours are awesome too Rachel. I'm proud of you too."Silent truce seemed to be made, for now.
"We're finally growing up, aren't we?" He nodded. The screaming from the other room snapped their intense stare.
"And I guess we have to go do the most grownup thing now.." He finished, leaving as he went to check on Cory."I'll get him."
Grownup or not. Finn was really anxious about his first class. Toby and Sophie sat the front to him reassurance. Toby said to only look at him. And so it began.
Finn had officially entered another side of the grownup world and it was scary.
The desperation in her child's cry broke Rachel's heart but she had tried everything she knew would Work to calm him down and nothing. Blaine and Kurt had gone out with Santana and the others but she'd insisted she had to study and learn her lines for the first rehearsal the next day.
"Please baby, just go back to sleep... I know you're upset about me and daddy fighting, but down worry...We'll find a way to make up, we always do. Talking to him was no use. Next best option was a song. she cradled the baby close to her chest as she picked him up. That's wen she noticed his skin was shiny, and he was wet, from sweating... He was burning up.
"God, no please Cory, don't get sick, no please..." The wailing didn't stop neither did the high fever. No one was answering not even Finn who must had been teachings his late night class. She had nowhere to go.
"Rachel?" She made out a voice coming from the hall. It was Finn. He reached the nursery."What's wrong?"
"Why didn't you..." The baby was shaking now. Finn reached her side touching the baby's cheek softly. "He's burning up Finn, I've tried everything..." Her Voice was breaking. Finn's eyes went wide. "I think we need to get to the hospital.."
So... What did you guys think? Do you like it so far? It's the beginning of the end, I have planned to make this out to be a trilogy. Will you guys read it?
Anyways, lets get the Cory time line straight so we don't have a problem following because a lot of stuff is going on.
Last chapter he was almost five months old, when Finchel went back to school so it was the end of January.
Next, Finchel had been in school for a day when Rachel heard about Funny Girl but a few weeks passed before she went to audition.
When Rachel got the FG callback, Cory was 6 months old.
Six weeks have passed so he's about seven and a half.
I hope it's a bit clearer.
In the last chapter.. What's wrong with Cory? And will Finchel remain strong? Plus Santana and Puck make a shocking move.
Thank you so much for reading and for supporting this! I hope you stick around for the next one and the next installment in this story, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you!
Please review if you can. They make me smile :)
