I always hated the teachers in Harry Potter universe. I am a trained teacher with six years of university for my certification as well as five years experience with students of various ages. If I was a teacher at Hogwarts...you better bet things would have been different. As is, I leave it to my favourite character to right a wrong (while I write about the wrong!). So much potential here...oh, and I don't have access to my HP books right now, so I guessed about the House points!

"I object!"
The rising roar of the crowd in the Great Hall silenced under the shout.
All eyes turned to Gryffindor table, red and gold robed students losing smiles as they regarded their first in confusion.
Hermione Granger was standing on her bench seat, chin stuck up and firm gaze on the Headmaster.
"Pardon?" he stumbled.
She took in a deep breath and projected her voice just like in her elocution classes—"It hardly seems fair that Slytherin House would lose the cup at the last moment, I refuse to accept these points out of respect for their hard work this year. I also refuse to accept points for endeavours that remain secret and are barely alluded to."
Dumbledore cleared his throat, silencing whispers. "It has always been the remit of the staff at Hogwarts to award or remove points as we see fit. I have never had a student fuss over points awarded to themselves."
Her eyes narrowed.
Whispers started in the hall, Slytherins straightening up in their seats and Hufflepuffs watching her with curiosity, Ravenclaws snickering at her and Gryffindors hissing for her to get down.
She ignored them and clearly called out again, "I. Refuse. Those. Points. Gryffindor is about more than shallow competition, we are supposed to stand for honour and bravery. Shaming me about a fuss will not change my mind. Slytherin rightly earned that house cup, taking it away from them at the Leaving Feast—by mere two points!—is abhorrent to me."
Dumbledore stared at her calmly. "Very well then. 65 points to Neville Longbottom for courage when standing up to his friends."
Hermione snarled and opened her mouth, but Dumbledore spoke over her. "Now let us enjoy our feast and last night together!" His eyes twinkled as food appeared on the table.
Hermione bit her tongue against the irony, snarling at the full table and ignoring her house mates who were all tugging at her robes and glaring.
She did get down from the bench, but she picked up her robes and marched right out of the Leaving Feast.
