Chapter Two-
Stella, Jessie, Daniel and Lawson went in TR 1, whilst Shannon, Josh, Xavier and Christian travelled in the other.
"So, how sour does a poker game have to go for you to end up on the roof?" Asked Stella over her comms.
"Dunno, but he must be neck deep in debt for it to go that bad," replied Leon, swinging on his office chair.
"Do we know anything yet?" Asked Lawson.
"I don't have any rooftop cameras. I'm waiting for you lot to get there so I can get eyes on the scene," replied Leon.
"We'll be on scene in five minutes," replied Josh.
"Thanks guys. Leon out." Leon ended the conversation, and resumed watching his traffic cams, clearing what traffic he could for the two teams. He heard footsteps behind him, and ignored them, preferring to at least look like he was working.
"Leon, I've got someone I'd like you to meet," interrupted Kerry. He swivelled around on his chair, and spotted a young woman standing next to her.
"We taking work experience students now are we?" He quipped, and smiled a little at his joke.
"This is Riley Parkes, and she's been studying at VU. She comes highly recommended from her professor, and she's going to be your assistant," said Kerry.
"Wh…? Huh? I don't need an assistant!" Spluttered Leon.
"Unfortunately, you don't get a choice in this; the commissioner wants as many hands involved as possible in getting Anna back, so you're stuck with an assistant. Treat her better than you treated Audrey!" Called Kerry as she left the young girl in Leon's office. Leon was left staring at the new arrival, mouth gaping.
"You're going to catch flies if you're not careful," she remarked.
"So the commissioner thinks I need you?" He replied. Riley shrugged.
"Don't know, but I know I'm getting paid whether you use me or not," replied Riley nonchalantly.
"So why you?" Asked Leon, turning to face his beloved computer screens.
"Top of my class, and my lecturer wants to challenge me. When the commissioner approached him about an assistant for you, my lecturer immediately recommended me. So now I'm here, and you're clearly unhappy that I'm in your territory, and I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do about it," apologised Riley.
"Well, you can get a start on my paperwork. It's in the third drawer, and Kerry's been on my back for a while," said Leon dismissively. Riley sighed and pulled open the desk drawer. It was stuffed with papers, old food wrappers and bits of shrivelled orange peel. Riley wrinkled her nose in disgust, and glanced around at the office.
"Where's my desk?" She asked. Leon shrugged.
"Use Lawson's or Josh's. They won't be back for a bit," said Leon, distracted by a change on his computer screen. Riley sighed; this was not how she'd envisioned her first day in a new job going. She pulled out the ream of paperwork before crossing over to Lawson's desk, dumping it unceremoniously on the desk before taking a seat and beginning the arduous task.
This was definitely not how she envisioned her first day.
"The area has been cleared, firefighters are on site in case we need them, ambulance crews are on standby. Anybody got any idea what this is all about?" Asked Lawson.
"That's one of John Davidson's employee's, Marcus," said Xavier.
"Leon? What information can you give us about John Davidson?" Asked Lawson into his comms.
"He's the leader of one of the drug rings here in Melbourne. We've been trying to get him for years; he pops up occasionally, and disappears right when we think we have him," replied Leon.
"I don't know how we're even going to end this; the guy's got a gun, and he's holding it to his victim's head. Leon, if we can get a clear shot of our victim, could you run him through the computer and get us an identity?" Asked Lawson.
"Picture won't be clear enough. Sorry Lawson," apologised Leon.
"I can do it."
"Leon, who was that?" Asked Stella.
"No-one," replied Leon.
"My name is Riley. The commissioner assigned me to the TR technical team to help out Leon, and so far today, I've just finished collating and submitting his paperwork for the last three months, cleaning out his drawer, and doing coffee runs for him. If you can get me a photo, I can get you the information you need," replied Riley.
"Alright. Nice to meet you Riley. Stella, Jessie, get me whatever shots you can of the guy on the roof and Riley will sort out the rest from there," called Lawson.
"So she's doing your paperwork is she Leon?" Asked Shannon.
"No!" Exclaimed Leon.
"Yes. Did you know he hasn't submitted anything for the past three months? And everything before that wasn't even signed off properly?" Added Riley. She pushed Leon's chair aside and pulled her own chair in closer as photos from Stella and Jessie started to flood in.
"See? There is no way we could clear those up to even try and put them through the system," said Leon scathingly. Riley shook her head a little, and continued working on the photo. She opened a program that Leon had sitting on his desktop, and put the photo through. With a few tweaks, it came out look as clear as if it had been taken on the rooftop right next to the man. She then punched it through the system, and within seconds, they had a name.
"Julian Hayward. Up to his ears in debt; he's got three loans with three different banks, and he's had several debt collectors. No wonder he's stuck on a roof," remarked Leon.
"Well done guys. Now to work out how the hell to diffuse the situation and get them down from there," responded Lawson. Leon and Riley heard three shots fired in the background, and heard all hell broke loose.
"Lawson? Josh? What's going on?"
All Leon and riley could heard were chaotic screams…
"Anyone? TR teams, check in!"
