Chapter 26
A/N: This is an AU story for the vampire diaries. I do not own the vampire dairies.
Caroline groaned. She was getting irritated by the sudden hits of pain. She didn't understand why this was happening to her. Distracting herself she was reading over Dr. Wes's notes. He was a sick man, but she supposed her father had been as well. It talked about the body of the vampire and every organ seemed to grow back on it's own rapidly after being removed. As well as there being different kinds of vampires. Such as the ripper like Stefan. She touched her stomach affectionately before she felt a kick. She smiled. Since Caroline had become a vampire, she had sort of accepted that she would never be able to have certain human things in life. One such as having a family, of having children. Caroline wasn't like Elena though, she wasn't that desperate to have a family. But it had been something that she had been looking forward to someday in the future. She wasn't going to lie, she had imagined attending college getting a job, falling in love, getting married having children growing old, while watching her children and grandchildren grow up. It had been a plan for someday. She wasn't sure if this was the perfect family that she had in mind but let's face it no family is perfect. And she wouldn't have it any other way because she didn't want a perfect family then it would be too easy and boring. She remembered when Elijah had suspected that Klaus had only means of using his child as a way to create hybrids again. But strangely she knew that Klaus had never had that thought on his mind. She didn't know how she had known so easily. She just knew him. Klaus was right. They were the same in a way. She heard the door open and turned to find Elijah dragging in a unconscious Klaus. Her eyes widened as he brought him over to the bed. Putting the journal down, she flashed to Elijah's side in a panic.
"What happened?" She demanded. Elijah turned to her.
"I found Niklaus about to use Papa Tunde's dagger on Rebekah." She stared at him.
"Why would Klaus do that?" Elijah swallowed hard.
"He found out about her betrayal back in 1919."
"What did she do?" Klaus may have been unconscious by he groaned in pain.
"I will tell you the tale later. Please help me remove the dagger from Niklaus." Caroline nodded.
"What should I do?"
"Distract him; he will definitely be awake for this." Caroline nodded and watched Elijah leave only to return with a knife. She swallowed hard before turning to Klaus. She sat down on the side of the bed watching him. She watched his face scrunch in pain and realized Elijah was beginning to try and remove the knife. He opened his eyes and he gritted his teeth in pain. Caroline grasped his face and began stroking it. Klaus was slowly coming to, and he felt those irritating strokes. He swore that he would kill Genevieve for laying her hands on him once again when he felt the strokes feeling like an angel. He opened his eyes and was greeted by the sight of her, sea blue green eyes met his instead of mossy green ones. An angel instead of a siren, he would have felt more happiness at seeing her but all he could feel at the moment was pain. She seemed to look in pain as well. She cupped his face and gave him a small smile. He the knife ripped from him and he roared in agony. He panted before raising his hand to touch hers. Caroline wanted to kiss him but hearing someone clear their throat brought her back. She remembered that Elijah was present in the room. She stopped stroking his face and moved to look at Elijah. As did Klaus who was trying to sit up. Klaus glared at Elijah.
"Brother." He grunted still feeling somewhat weak.
"I leave him in your care Miss Caroline." Caroline gave him a look. "Caroline." He corrected before leaving the room. Caroline grabbed the blood bag on the dresser and handed it to him.
"Mind telling me what happened at that sanatorium?" She asked. Klaus had finished the blood bag in no time. Before he turned to her to speak.
"A witch stabbed me with Papa Tunde's knife, I woke to be strapped down with an old acquaintance, who told me the little tale of a siblings betrayal." Klaus explained.
"I heard from Elijah that Rebekah had betrayed you back in1919. What do you mean?" Klaus looked at her.
"Rebekah and Marcel worked together to bring Mikael to New Orleans to have him kill me." Caroline shrugged.
"Wasn't the first time that someone tried to kill you." She joked. Klaus gave her a look and she swallowed hard. "Why would she do that?"
"Because I wouldn't let her be with Marcel apparently they were going to run away together and she would let her brothers get murdered by her father." Klaus tossed the blood bag into the trash can and glared at the wall.
"Why wouldn't you let them be together?"
"Because, Rebekah always falls in love with the wrong men. No one is good enough for her." Klaus was protective of his sister. And must have been when he was human for it to be magnified to even kill her suitors.
"And Marcel wasn't good enough for her. You were friends and treated him like a son before they had been together. Rebekah had explained that." Klaus sighed.
"So what? My sister is too good for any men on this planet. She is an original vampire." Caroline rolled her eyes.
"You are far to protective of Rebekah. Perhaps if you weren't trying to keep them separated or try killing her suitors then she wouldn't have done that." Klaus glared at her. "Klaus they loved one another. Of course they would do anything to be together. Rebekah was probably mad at the time. But I don't think that she truly meant to kill you." Klaus shook his head.
"You don't know Caroline. She summoned Mikael and wanted him to kill me. Mikael. I am sure I would have been able to look the other way if it were another. But Mikael, it was him. He who has always tried to kill me, she knew that he could end our family truly. Now I have to kill her." Caroline's eyes widened as Klaus started to get up or was trying. She flashed in front of him.
"Klaus you can't kill your own sister." She muttered. Klaus rolled his eyes.
"I can and I will. Now out of my way Caroline." Caroline shook her head.
"Klaus, you're talking about killing you sister. Your own blood!" She protested as he started to stand now.
"I should have killed her that very night."
"You're just going to become like him!" Klaus froze and turned to her. She could feel the anger radiating off of him. She could see the anger swimming in his eyes. She had clearly overstepped a boundary.
"Don't you dare, compare him to me." His voice was cold and sent a chill down her spine. She stood her ground.
"Killing your own sister, your family would make you like Mikael."
"You don't know anything Caroline." Klaus grabbed his shirt and put it on. He moved to the door and Caroline sighed before following him. He was walking outside now Caroline was following him. "Go back inside Caroline."
"No, I am not leaving you like this." Klaus turned to her. She could see the white oak stake in his arms. He must have grabbed it before he left the house. "Klaus, she's your sister."
"Not anymore." He flashed off. Caroline groaned and followed him. She appeared in front him. "Move Caroline." He growled. "Or I'll make you." She glared at him.
"You wouldn't hurt me."
"Caroline."
"Klaus." Klaus flashed around her and Caroline again followed.
Rebekah cursed, how she had ended up in this cemetery trapped now. Elijah with her as well. He was only trying to protect her; she knew that Klaus was coming to kill her. She knew her brother well enough for the last thousand years he didn't do well with betrayal.
"There has to be a way out of here. I need to disappear." She was scared of her brother this time. Elijah turned to her.
"I left Niklaus with Miss Caroline, hopefully she gets him to calm down somewhat. At least to hold back from killing you." Elijah explained. She shook her head.
"I know the affect that she has on Nik, but this time I don't think that anyone is going to stop him. He hates me Elijah." Elijah turned to her.
"You know what you did was wrong, but I refuse to let Niklaus kill you. You are still our sister, our blood and this would ruin Niklaus if he were to kill you." She looked down.
"I am dead to him, either way he won't stop." There was movement and they heard voices.
"Klaus, she's your sister."
"Not anymore." Elijah shooed Rebekah inside the mausoleum. He turned to face his brother and Caroline who was tugging on Klaus's arm now. "Elijah," Klaus ground out. "Stop protecting the traitor."
"She's our sister Niklaus. I refuse to let you kill her. What she did was wrong, but if you hear her out I am sure that she can explain this. Give her a chance to explain and apologize." Klaus shook his head.
"She is not my sister, she lost that the day she betrayed me and brought Mikael to New Orleans to kill me. Why should I hear her out? So she could find a way to betray me once again? She broke any trust that she had with me now. And now her death is in order." Caroline shook her head.
"Klaus do you really want to be known as the man that killed his sister. I think that it is one thing to kill someone, but to kill your sister. That's just cold and truly evil." Klaus ignored Caroline his eyes on his brother as Elijah brought out the knife again.
"You are acting just like him." Klaus's hands clenched into fists. He hated being compared to Mikael. He was not him. "And if you kill her then you will become him."
"I am nothing like him." Klaus said through gritted teeth. Klaus glanced behind him to where the mausoleum was. He knew that Rebekah was inside was there.
"Well I am not going to stand here and listen to your pleas to not kill her. After she didn't just try to kill me but you as well. Mikael would have killed all of us. Her life is meaningless now." Klaus flashed to Elijah. Elijah put up a good fight. Caroline watched them fight one another, they banged against the tombstones and mausoleums leaving dents or breaking them all together. But Klaus got the upper hand and stabbed Elijah with papa tunde's knife. Caroline eyes widened and before she could stop herself. She flashed to Klaus shoving him to the side and grasping the white oak stake. Klaus growled and got to his feet glaring at Caroline. "Caroline give that back."
"No." Klaus's jaw clenched.
"Caroline, give me the white oak stake."
"No."
"Caroline." He made another step towards her. Caroline flashed away with the stake. Klaus growled and flashed after her. She zig zagged through the graveyard. She knew that he was fast but she just needed to distract him. She jumped up onto a mausoleum before flashing down and to the other side preparing to make an escape out of the cemetery when she was jolted back by an unseen force. She cried out when she hit the back of a tombstone. She groaned and felt slight pain. She felt arms around here. "Caroline, what the bloody hell do you think you're doing?" She looked at Klaus who held concern in his eyes. Her forehead was bleeding slightly.
"You can't kill her." Klaus sighed and noticed that Rebekah was standing right there.
"Maybe I did want to kill you. But in the end I truly didn't." Rebekah said. Before anyone could react Klaus moved.
"No!" Caroline cried. Klaus grasped the stake and stabbed Rebekah. She cried out in pain. She looked down and noticed where he had stabbed her.
"You missed…" Klaus swallowed hard before ripping it out of her. Caroline noticed that Klaus didn't kill her.
"What do you want?" He said.
"I want to be free to have a family of my own. To love someone who loves me in return." Klaus nodded.
"Then you are free. Leave New Orleans. Live your life." He turned his back to her leaving Rebekah shocked. Klaus moved to Caroline who was also shocked. "Go before I change my mind and kill you. But if you ever come back I will kill you." Caroline swallowed hard and watched Rebekah smile and nod to Caroline. Before she vanished. Elijah appeared and looked around.
"What happened?" He asked. Klaus rolled his eyes before lifting Caroline into his arms.
"Rebekah left New Orleans."
"I got a call that the witch just finished the spell. The boundary spell should be down in a second or so." Klaus moved to test this when he found that there was nothing there he moved out of it. With that Klaus went home, even if his home of his family was torn apart. His sister was now gone, and Klaus felt a deep feeling of sadness within him. Rebekah was gone.
Notes: So here is another chapter. I hope I did good with how Caroline would act during this. I am not sure if I did good or not but I hope I did. Rebekah has left New Orleans. Next chapter will be Klaroline but more of comfort. Klaus is going to try and hide his feelings. The fact that Rebekah's gone, and that he misses his sister. Caroline is the only one to notice this. Plus I have been thinking that a lot of people want Elijah to have a love interest and I know most want Katherine. So I might be thinking of adding Katherine. Genevieve will be in the next chapters but mostly as an antagonist and Caroline's latest enemy of course. Don't forget about Celeste and that prophecy. She still has plans for Caroline. I will bring Rebekah back in later. I just wanted to bring out some of a vulnerable side of Klaus though he tried not to show it. I want Caroline to be the one there for him. Elijah will also be taking matters into his own hands. Reviews please.
