Penny blinked at Sheldon. 'I'm sorry, am I hallucinating or did you just ask me to marry you.' She laughed and Sheldon blinked at her before nodding.

'Yes.'

'Sheldon, I er… I think that us getting married… it's just…'

'My intellectual understanding on the way you think is giving me the inference that you do not want to marry me.' Sheldon said, getting up.

'Sheldon,' Penny sighed and looked at him, 'we've only just started our relationship and yeah… I think it is too soon sweetie.'

Sheldon nodded, 'Alright, I can understand that.'

'Did you er… did you mean it when you said you loved me?' Penny asked, a smile forming on her face and Sheldon looked at her, his eyes giving away the internal battle in his mind that was currently going on, 'or do you wish that you could just turn back time so that the last five minutes never happened?' she added after there was an awkward pause.

'Penny, the unidirectional nature of the time continuum makes that an impossible thing to do. I knew your knowledge of science was limited, but I didn't think it was that bad,' Sheldon scoffed, 'but in regards to your question… I do believe that I have formed an attachment to you and that it is in fact… love.'

'Oh Sheldon, that's so sweet.' Penny pulled him into a hug and he rolled his eyes as he patted her on the back. This real relationship thing was going to take him a long time to learn… pretending had seemed so much easier. Perhaps a couple of words with Anna or Leonard might help, they could maybe teach him a thing or two.

'And what about you Penny, do you return these feelings for me?' he asked and Penny found her voice hitched itself in her throat.

'Urm…' THINK PENNY THINK! GET SOME WORDS OUT OF YOUR BLOODY MOUTH! That was all that was going through Penny's head right now, 'I like you Sheldon, really I do but I don't know if I'm in love with you… yet.'

Sheldon furrowed his brow. Her answer was fair; he had been attracted to her far longer than she to he, so her answer made sense. Though, if he was going to be in a relationship, wouldn't this be a key topic to focus an argument on? 'Well that's just great isn't it!' he yelled at her suddenly and she took a step back in shock.

'Sheldon…'

'I profess my love to you and you don't feel the same way!' He continued to say in an angry raised voice.

'Sheldon! Why are being like this?' Penny gasped and Sheldon relaxed and looked at her.

'In my study of interpersonal dynamics, I have found that conflict, followed by emotional release, often strengthens the connection between two people,' he explained simply and in an extremely calm voice and Penny just looked at him in disbelief. It was kind of cute that he had tried but she had to let him know that he was doing it all wrong.

'But… there's something so forced and artificial about the way you're doing it Sheldon, that not the real you. The Sheldon I know would pick a fight over who sat in his spot as opposed to feelings of a romantic nature.'

'You're right Penny, I'm sorry if I caused you any discomfort.'

'Don't worry Sheldon… think of it as a learning curve.'

'It seems as though I have much to learn about this… romantic relationship between two people.' Sheldon smiled and Penny giggled at him.

'You whackadoodle… right, now I am going to go and call Simon and tell him that he can stick his job up his ass.' Penny said, flicking her long blonde locks over her shoulder.

'Leonard, I'm troubled,' Sheldon said, pausing their game of Mario Kart on the Wii and turning to look at Leonard.

'What's up Sheldon?'

'I think that I am in love with Penny and I don't know what to do.'

'You love her?'

'I believe so. My heart rate increases and my body temperature elevates and I just feel extremely nauseous when I am around her, but in a good way.'

'Sounds like love to me Sheldon… but you're sure that you want that to be with Penny.'

'No other human has had this effect on me Leonard, the sensation is so difficult to describe, let alone process.' Sheldon sighed, 'I'm just worried that I am going to be inadequate to the task. I know that I will have to engage in coitus with Penny eventually and I know from trying to sleep through past sexual escapades between you and her how loud and wild she is. It's going to be tough but like the Borg, I will adapt!'

'Sheldon, everyone is capable of being more than we are and you'll find that you are too. It'll take time to learn but yeah you'll get there. And when it really works between two people, it's not like anything you've ever experienced. The rewards are far greater than simple friendship.'

'How so?'

'Well, you'll just have to find that out Sheldon, all I know is that when you and Penny do have sex, go for her ears… she loves them to be nibbled, it's what really turns her on .' Leonard laughed, 'and don't wait around… if you want to have sex with her, just tell her… I'm sure she wants it just as much as you do.'

'Well that's the thing… I have offered the idea to her on at least two or three separate occasions and each time she had declined, insisting she wants to take our relationship slow.'

'Hmm, well that's a first for Penny… anyway… I think you'd better talk to her about it because I'm starting to get a little uncomfortable about the idea of you and my ex girlfriend sleeping together.' Leonard chuckled and resumed the game. When it was over and Leonard headed over to his desk to start some work, Sheldon popped round to Penny's. She would have got home approximately an hour ago, thereby she had had the sufficient amount of time to wash, change and eat thus leaving him with time to talk to her.

Knock knock knock

'Penny.'

'Heya Sheldon, what can I do for you sweetie?' Penny grinned as she opened the door.

'I want to engage in coitus with you.' Sheldon said quickly and Penny looked at him with wide eyes, not quite believing what she had just heard.

'What?'

'I want to engage… I want to make love to you Penny and I want to do it now.' He said stepping into her apartment and shutting the door.

'Sheldon… are you sure… I thought it would be a good idea for us to go slow because you're so new to this.' She whispered, trying to contain her desire to rip his clothes off of him.

'We've been faking a relationship of 3 years and have officially been together for nearly a month and judging on your past record, the lack of coital relations must be driving you crazy and I actually find myself wanting to make love to you.'

'Then take me.' She whispered huskily, before shrugging of her maxi dress to reveal just her underwear to Sheldon. He gulped as he took in the beautiful vixen that stood before him and he followed her into the bedroom. She lay back down on her sheets and looked at him, inviting him to join her with her eyes but Sheldon took one look at her sheets and saw that there was a bit of threadbare going on with them. 'What's wrong?' she asked.

'Your sheets… they're discoloured, threadbare and they reek of industrial bleach… what made you change from your original brand that was just about tolerable?'

'I've been kind of low on cash… Y'know, being out of work and all. Sheldon, there's nothing to worry about, they're just sheets and when we're having sex, you won't even notice the sheets… trust me!' Penny giggled.

'Penny, I am not going to lie on those sheets… all I'll be thinking about is how many men have used these sheets with you before me.'

'Ok, well what do you want me to do about it?' Penny asked, sighing and looking at him in dispair.

'Oooh, Egyptian cotton… always so soft on the skin and wonderful to sleep in.' Sheldon grinned as he picked up a nice expensive bed sheet at the mall which he and a very bored Penny were now standing in. 'What do you think of this one Penny… would this be considered a good lovemaking set?'

'Yup.' Penny said, making a popping sound on the final consonant. She couldn't believe that she had let him drag her here. Curse the mall for keeping its shops open late on anything can happen Thursdays! She was so close to getting laid and wham, Sheldon threw another surprise at her.

'Penny, you've said that on every bed set I've shown you in the past forty five minutes.'

'Sheldon, forty five minutes ago, I was in my underwear and ready to have sex with you… now I'm here in the shopping mall because you want to sleep in expensive sheets!'

Sheldon looked at her and then back at the sheets. 'Alright, I shall get these ones and then we can go back and carry on where we left off.'

'Forget it Sheldon, I'm not in the mood anymore.' Penny sighed, 'can we just get your Persian cotton sheets and go?'

'Of course.' Sheldon nodded, deciding to remain silent. Why did sex have to be so complicated? No… why did he have to be so complicated?
