Now you find out what you're all probably wondering

Epilogue Faith's POV

4 years later

I had lived here in Vermont for about three years. For the first year since I'd left the flock I'd traveled trying to make money and find a place secluded. When I ended up here I was at a computer in a library. Apparently someone saw how good I was with computers and offered me a job making websites and the best part was I could do the job from home so I could take care of Jay. I bought a cabin and have been living here ever since.

I was in the middle of working when Jay walked in.

"Mama lunch time!" He yelled enthusiastically. I checked the time on the clock and sure enough it was 12:30 time for his lunch.

I logged out and turned in my swivel chair. He ran over to me still in his spongebob pajamas. His fourth birthday had passed by a few months ago. I picked him up and he smiled at me. Just like Max smiled with those big brown eyes that mirrored his.

"No food until you change out of your pjs" I said.

"Why it's not like I'm gonna go anywhere?" He whined.

He wasn't wrong he was to young to go to school, not that I'd want him to go, and since we lived secluded without even a phone he didn't have any friends. He was shy anyway though very thoughtful until he got used to someone then he'd open up to them. I needed him to get dressed though I always wanted to be prepared in case we had to escape at any sudden moment.

"I don't care now go pick out your clothes and I'll be there in a minute to help you change" I said. I ruffed his raven black hair and set him down. He took off to his room.

I sat on my bed then reached under my pillow. I pulled out my only picture of Max. It was us when we were 14. I took it with me for Jay so he'd know what his father looked like but I found myself looking at it every night before I went to bed. I felt a sharp pain in my chest and tears sprung to my eyes but I didn't cry.

I collapsed face down laying backwards on the bed. The picture still in my hand. I breathed in and out trying to get rid of the longing so I could be strong for Jay, but four years and I still can't seem to get over it. Because every time I look at Jay I see him.

"Don't cry mama" I heard. I looked up and Jay was standing right next to the bed. He took the picture out of my hand and struggled to get up on the bed with me. I sat up cross legged and he sat in front of me.

"We'll see daddy soon. Like you said. Daddy has to save the world but then he's gonna come find us and I'll get to see him" He told me.

One day when Jay was two or three he was watching some show and saw someone's parents. Then he asked me why he didn't have a dad. I showed him the picture. But I just couldn't look him in the eye and tell him I left his father because of him.

It wasn't a complete lie. I told him his daddy had to save the world and that he would be back someday. But the way I said it made it seem like Max left us not we left him.

"Remember you said Daddy loves us." he said looking at the picture. Some tears escaped my eyes and I gave him a weak smile. I scooped him in my arms and held him close to me.

"You are so good!" I said kissing him on the top of the head. He laughed. "I say we have ice cream for lunch!" I said. He cheered.

I picked him up and carried him to his room where he already had his clothes laid out. He picked out a dark blue shirt with a dark green hoodie and jeans. I helped him get dressed then took him to the kitchen to make sundaes.

"Mama can I watch TV?" he asked.

The kitchen was connected to the living room so I could watch him. "Sure" I said searching the freezer for the ice cream.

I heard the TV turn on and it was on the news station.

"The recent take down of a corporation called Itex-" I heard then Jay changed the channel. My head spun around and I threw the ice cream back in the freezer.

"Sweetie wait I need to change it back" I said taking the remote from him.

A woman was on the screen talking in front of a building that was turned to ash.

"Yes, apparently this corporation had buildings all around the world that were referred to as schools. These school had horrifying experiments in them. Over the past year these schools started to get destroyed by a flock of bird kids." She said and it showed a picture of 5 bird kid shapes in the sky.

"Look mama! Like us!" Jay said pointing.

"Shh sweetie" I hushed him. The women continued to talk. "These five bird kids are thought to be the start of a revolution. The freed experiments from their prisons and started in uprising all over the world. Will have more details on this story as it develops, but one things for sure these kids seemed to have saved the world from this evil company."

I flicked the TV off and turned to my son. It was time to go back.

"Mama? Was that daddy on the TV?" he asked me. I nodded. I couldn't believe after all these years we could go back.

"Jay we're gonna go see daddy" I told him. He jumped up on the couch.

"Yay is he coming here?" He asked.

"No Jay we had to hide so daddy doesn't know where we are so we're gonna go find him." I said picking him up. He wrapped his legs around my waist and I carried him to his room.

I packed some of his toys and clothes in his spongebob backpack. Then I carried him to my room. I threw on my black hoodie. I packed my backpack with some clothes and food. Then Max's picture.

"You ready?" I asked.

He nodded. "Can you tie my shoes?" He asked lifting his feet up to me. I bent down and tied them for him then picked him up.

I walked out the front door and locked it. Even though there was about a 50% chance we wouldn't be coming back.

"Mama I can fly on my own" he said stubbornly. He's so much like his father. His wings were still small and he hadn't had a lot of practice flying.

I kissed his head and took off.

Including breaks it took me about 4 hours to get to Arizona. If Dr.M had moved then I was screwed because this was my only lead. I put Jay down His extra weight had slow me down some but I'd say I got here pretty fast. I held his hand and he remained quiet as I lead him to the front door.

I rang the doorbell and he let go of my hand. He wrapped his arms around my left leg and pressed his face to the side of it.

A minute later Dr.M opened the door. He looked pretty much the same except for a few grey hairs. He looked surprise to see me then he tried to close the door and grab his phone.

I jammed my right foot in the door.

"Stop" I said and he froze. He was still trying to close the door. "Please don't call him." I said.

"Faith" He started I waited for him to say something but he didn't.

"Mama? Where's daddy?" Jay asked me timidly.

Dr.M's eyes trailed down my leg and landed on Jay. He smiled at him. He opened the door and bent down.

"Hi Jay" he said.

"Hi how do you know my name?" He asked.

"I'm your grandpa" Dr.M said. Jay looked from me to Dr.M.

"You don't look like mama though" He said thinking Dr.M was my dad. He chuckled.

"No I'm your daddy's dad" He explained. Jay smiled.

"Is daddy here?" he asked.

"No" Dr.M said sadly "He's not"

Dr.M stood up. "I'll give you the address" He said. He let us in and I carried Jay in.

"Dad! Have you seen my iPod?" I heard then Eddy walked in. He froze when he saw us.

I think he was 18 now. I pointed at him. "That's your uncle Eddy" I told Jay.

Jay waved and Eddy lightly waved back to him still shocked.

Dr.M quickly wrote something down on a note and handed it to me. "Don't expect them to welcome you with open arms, but even if things don't work out promise me you'll bring Jay back to visit" He said.

I nodded and took the note from him. It was barely a three minute fly from here. "Thank you" I said and ran out the door.
