"Can I see her?"
"She's awake but very weak. I'll be in a moment."
Toby and Emily followed the older doctor into Spencer's room. Spencer was awake but barely, her face was almost as pale as she was when he had found her, her lips returning to their natural pink tone but her eyes hung heavy, circled with deep purple bags. Needles poked out of her arms whilst a cannula was plugged into to her nose. As always, caring for others, her free arm was resting protectively over her stomach.
"Hey Spence." Toby whispered, immediately grabbing her hand and rubbing it softly as he sat down beside her.
"Hey." She croaked, her throat obviously dry from her lack of oxygen, "I thought I was never going to see you again."
"I'm never letting you out of my sight again. Okay?" Toby promised kissing her hand.
"I havent -" She coughed before being able to finish her sentence "haven't felt tadpole move since I've woken. Hasn't kicked or anything" It took all of the little energy Spencer had to choke back the tears that were erupting. Before either of the two could say anything, the other doctor reappeared with an ultrasound machine.
"Right, lets listen for the baby's heartbeat." She announced pulling the blanket back and pulled Spencer's shirt up slightly.
Toby, Spencer and even Emily prepared themselves for what was happening. Toby seated as close to Spencer as he could possibly be without sitting on the bed, one hand holding her fragile hand protectively the other stroking her forehead. Spencer's gaze changed between Toby and the doctor whilst Emily stood behind them, her hands on Toby's shoulders.
"Everything's going to be okay." Toby said trying to reassure Spencer, although he didn't mean to say it outloud, it was more an internal thought that came out like word vomit, trying to reassure himself at the same time. Spencer nodded, weak and extremely tired, her eyes hung heavy, looking like she was just about to fall asleep.
Dr. Proudman, the older doctor, as she had introduced herself began the ultrasound, it was like the many others Spencer and Toby had attended, squeezing the gel on Spencer's stomach and moving the
wand around until Dr. Carne found tadpole's heartbeat but this time was completely different.
Dr. Proudman moved the wand around on Spencer's stomach for what seemed like eternity, her brows furrowing as she struggled to find a heartbeat.
Emily's breathing hitched before her eyes welled, placing her head on Toby's as they came to the realisation. Toby buried his head in Spencer's, as Spencer fought back tears, she had cried enough lately and in reality she had cried her tear ducts dry.
Just as Dr. Proudman was about to announce that tadpole hadn't survived, an unbelieveably strong sound of a heart beat filled the room.
Spencer, Emily and Toby were speechless.
"There we go, baby is perfectly fine. Cheeky boy didn't want me to find him."
"We're having a boy?" Toby's voice quivered.
"Yeah, if you look right there you can see." Dr Proudman smiled, as she pointed to the screen.
"We're having a boy, Spence." Toby confirmed, jumping out of his chair kissing Spencer before hugging Emily.
"And today seems to be your lucky day, from what I can tell on from your ultrasound, the placenta praevia seems to have disappeared. But we'll have to keep you here for a week just to make sure everything's okay. You're boy's a fighter like his mom."
"Thank you so much, both of you." Spencer thanked both of the doctors. Toby opted for a handshake
whislt Emily awkwardly hugged Dr Proudman.

Toby emerged from Spencer's room a huge smile painted across his face. His friends were shocked by his facial expression, and immediately ran to him, bombarding him with questions.
"How is she? Is tadpole okay? Whats going on? Why are you smiling like that? Toby, tell me whats happening!"
"If all of you shut up, I'll tell you!" He said raising his hands surrendering, laughing a little. The group immediately quietened down allowing Toby to speak.
"Everything is fine, Spencer and our little boy. They're keeping her here for a week for observation but she should be able to go home after that."
"Little boy?" Caleb questioned, almost jumping for joy.
"Yeah, the doc accidently let it slip but it doesn't matter, Spence and tadpole are healthy."
The group shuffled into Spencer's room, who was on the verge of a deep sleep.
Spencer's room wasnt exactly small, but with eight people in the room, it wasnt exactly spacious. Toby sat on the bed beside Spencer whilst the rest of them sat on the few chairs or stood against the wall.
"I still can't believe that Melissa did this to you." Paige said, still shocked.
"Neither can I." Spencer replied, surprisingly holding herself together.
"Does this mean it's over? The end of A?" Hanna asked. For a moment, the room was silent, everyone unsure of whether this was the end or not.
