When he lay with his back on the cobblestones Loki realized that he wasn't actually unconscious, which surprised him. He was rather incredibly stunned, and when he tried to move he found that he couldn't. A wave of nausea hit him and he forced himself to remain still. Then suddenly he remembered that Sigyn had been hit by the blast too. He forced himself to at least to look see where she had landed.
Sigyn was still on the ground but looking open mouthed at something that he couldn't see because it was behind him. At least the girl was alright; right now she was probably in better condition than he was. He moved his head in the opposite direction to see what had the girl dumb founded and he let out a moan that had nothing to do with the pain in his body. In hindsight he realized it was probably his own fault, and also Amoras', that neither of them had bothered to find out if Thor was in Asgard. Loki knew his brother would occasionally leave, and even with the rainbow bridge still needing to be repaired his brother was still able to travel to worlds beyond their own.
At that particular moment he wasn't sure if he should be glad that his brother was here. It was a double-edged sword, equal parts blessing and curse. For one, he was not pointing Mjolnir at him, but secondly once Amora was incapacitated there was nothing stopping him from making Loki his next target. He struggled on the ground and almost screamed when someone placed a hand on his shoulder trying to get him to lay still. Of course it was Sigyn, she had crawled over to him while the Thunder raged above them and he had not heard her approach. She placed a hand over his mouth to keep him from speaking and a finger to her own lips to let him know that he should remain quiet even after removing her hand.
Loki was surprised but also relieved; he had half expected the girl to go running to Thor and confessing what he and Amora had planned. But instead here she was next to him; he wasn't quite sure what to think. Sigyn gave him a small smile and leaned in close to his ear to be heard over the Thunder and Amoras' indignant and enraged screams. "We need to think of what to do now Loki. If we are quick enough perhaps we can say the escape was all the work of the sorcerous. You will be imprisoned again, but you shouldn't suffer any worse punishment." She reached into her pocket and extracted the glowing magical orb that she had tried so hard to keep safe and gave him a hopeful look. "And the people of Asgard will be saved as well; perhaps you'll be regarded as a hero again."
Loki couldn't bring himself to squash the small hope she had of what was going to happen. Surely being imprisoned again was inevitable, but the odds that his sentence would be even worse was much more likely. He might even be executed for what he had done or at least the very least tortured. He still felt sick and light headed but he forced himself to his knees to grab hold of Sigyn. Part of him wanted to take the orb and still run and try to escape, the other Asgardians be damned, but he knew Thor would stop him and even worse Sigyn wouldn't follow him if it meant harming anyone. For now the former Asgardian prince was completely out of ideas and that realization scared him deeply.
"Sigyn listen to me…" but whatever he was about to say was lost when there was another loud crash of green light and Amora disappeared from under Mjolnir. The witch was still able to disappear and reappear at will and used that to her advantage, finally removing herself from the crushing weight of the hammer by using her magic. Instead Loki gripped Sigyn close, there was no telling where the witch would reappear. And the girl still had the orb that she wanted, not to mention she had troubled the sorcerous too many times for her to let her live.
He scanned the surroundings intently, trying to locate where she might have gone when large and powerful hands grabbed him and lifted him up. Sigyn let out a tiny scream of fright as Loki was lifted into the air and he was forced to let her go, the strong hands turned him around and he found himself inches from the face of his adoptive brother. Adrenaline surged into his body as he looked at the towering Asgardian prince. Thor looked haggard in Lokis' eyes. His hair was longer and he had a haunted look on his face that was currently being eclipsed by the rage he could see reflected in his brother's eyes. A sense of self-preservation kept him still even as a sly smile crept on to the tricksters face.
"My brother your sense of timing is impeccable to be sure." He rose up both hands to show he was unarmed and that he meant no harm in return. "What would you say dear brother if I told you I had no part in this?" Thor gave him a scathing look but set him down on his own feet. "If you did say that I would say that you were a liar." Thor then looked away and over Loki's shoulder to Sigyn that was still standing behind him. He pointed at her but directed the question to Loki. "And who is that girl with you? Is she your hostage?"
Sigyn stepped forward at that and addressed Thor herself. "Please my Lord Thor, I am not a hostage. I am the serving girl assigned to Loki during his imprisonment, my name is Sigyn and I was the only one to volunteer for the duty, maybe you remember me?" But from the look in Thor's face he realized that he did not in fact remember who Sigyn was. In her defense however she didn't look like herself at the moment. Her face was covered in dirt and now soot, and her clothes were torn and she had a fair number of scratches and wounds covering her entire body. Still, she was doing to her best to present herself to her Lord even in her bedraggled state. He gave her a small smile that Thor also noticed and looked at his brother curiously. Loki was feeling slightly proud of her at the moment; she was struggling through this all with hardly a complaint.
He looked back at his adoptive brother as he tried to think of the best way to explain himself out of the situation. "You see? The girl is not my hostage, we are both merely the pawns in a game orchestrated by Amora. We are trying to thwart her plans, at great cost I might add, since I am currently powerless and my only companion is a wounded serving girl." He spread his hands in a gesture of supplication to Thor, giving his most innocent look which he knew Thor would probably see right through. Right now his greatest asset was Sigyn. The girl was loyal and honest to a fault, while he might be a hardened liar the girl was not. She was his only witness and testament left to him; even if they accused him of attempted escape, which he was guilty of, perhaps the fact that he protected Sigyn and helped the unconscious guards would be a boon in his favor. Regardless of what happened now he knew he was doomed to re-enter the jail cell, the best he could hope for was that the sentence wouldn't be any worse than it had been before. And he still wanted Sigyn to be his serving girl; the thought of them taking her away was too much to bear at the moment.
Sigyn started to approach Thor, holding the glowing orb in front of her like an offering to the god of Thunder. "Please my Lord, this orb is the magic that is keeping everyone asleep. If we can find a way to break the spell everyone will wake up, and we are running out of time." She pointed to the stable as an example, smoke was still coming from the roof in small tufts even with the rain to keep it from bursting into flames, "There are still people trapped inside and we can't get them all out in time." Thor paled at her words and finally noticed the stable and the fire that threatened to destroy it.
His eyes hardened and his mouth became set in a grim line and he took the orb from Sigyn and looked at it like it was a poisonous snake about to strike. Thor looked from Sigyn to Loki then back again. Then without any further pretense he set the orb on the ground and swung Mjolnir at the small sphere and shattered it into a thousand glowing pieces. Sigyn screamed and her hands went to her throat in shock, Loki almost felt the same way at the sudden destruction of the orb; also he did not know if that would break it's magical hold on the palace.
Then the guards that Loki and Sigyn had saved sat bolt upright on the cobblestones and looked about them with dazed expressions. He could hear suddenly the confused shouts of people still in the barn and the terrified squeals of the horses still trapped inside. The doors to the stable burst open and men and horses came pouring out in various stages of panic. Loki felt a certain sinking feeling in his chest, this was proof that it was all over for him now, and there was no way for him to escape Asgard. He looked back over at Sigyn and realized that she was still standing there with a shocked expression on her face.
He frowned and walked towards her, the sudden movement also alerted Thor who turned and looked at the girl, Sigyn looked at Loki pitifully and opened her mouth but no sound came out. Then her eyes rolled back into her skull and she feel forward, the only thing saving her drom landing head first into the stones was the quick reflexes of Thor who caught her around the shoulders. Loki looked up and saw the source of Sigyns' distress. Amora was standing there with a triumphant grin on her face, and in her hand a conjured green dagger of flame still sizzling from blood where she had stabbed Sigyn in the back.
