Sasuke was sitting by himself, more silent than he usually was. Sakura had decided to leave him in the room by himself to stew in the truth, and she knew he would be more hostile than usual. Naruto stood next to her, humming in confusion.
"Kind of an overreaction, don't you think?" he mentioned, but Sakura remained silent, preferring to focusing her attention on the father of her son.
"This isn't easy for him," Itachi murmured.
Naruto glared at the elder Uchiha, and it was clear by the way everyone tensed up that there would soon be a shouting match. However, the room was silenced when Sasuke walked in, a determined expression upon his face. He breathed out heavily, tilting his head back.
"Let's go get my son back."
The ANBU teams were all wearing their masks, not giving any hint to their identities. Sakura knew it was because of all the criminals they were to watch over. They were afraid, and they were right to be. Sakura was afraid too, albeit for different reasons. Was Kenji okay? What was happening to him? Tears welled up in her eyes, and she felt a comforting, warm hand on her back. She was a little disappointed to find that it was Itachi and not Sasuke. Still, she appreciated the effort.
"It's going to be okay; we'll find him." Sakura nodded, putting on a brave smile. Inside, she was just a whirlwind of anxiety. Where was her baby?
Sasuke looked at Itachi's back in anger, his hands clenched into fists. This whole time, he had been lied to. Itachi had lied to him to protect him. The village hadn't even known. Was this something his son had to deal with? Being lied to, being protected, not knowing what was going on.
This was all his fault. He had to fix this.
Tobi was in Naruto's chair, and the Hokage sighed at the strange man's antics. "I wasn't expecting you to be here."
"Your cute secretary let me in," the man chirped, leaning backward leisurely. "Are they on the way to Orochimaru's?"
"How do you kno-"
Tobi interjected quickly, holding up a hand to stop Naruto. The boy kept talking his eardrums off. "I just know, Hokage-sama. What are you going to be doing in the meantime?"
Naruto rubbed his temples. "I don't know. I'm thinking of planning an execution."
"Don't."
Naruto froze in his tracks. "Why wouldn't I? Sasuke is a criminal."
"Naruto, everything in my plan will come to fruition. Just be patient. Everyone will come back from Orochimaru's lair intact, and you will let the Sakura and Sasuke have their peace for a short while." The man smirked beneath his mask. "Then…we'll start the fireworks."
They stopped to rest for the night. Orochimaru's lair in Konoha was only a day's walk away. There was no definitive plan, and there wasn't enough time to come up with one. They had all silently agreed on just winging it. Orochimaru was a "tool" anyway, as Kisame worded it.
Still, Sakura's pain would not stop. She couldn't shake the feeling that bad things had already happened to her son, that he was out of her reach now. She feared that he was dead… or worse. What if Orochimaru had already taken his body? He was young, but he had the genetics needed. Orochimaru knew how to speed the process along, and Sakura was so afraid of him being even remotely near that pervert. She remembered him practically killing both Sasuke and Naruto, and the thought of his tongue made her shudder.
She found a nearby stream and hiked her pants up, lowering her calves into the water. It was nowhere near soothing, but at least it was distracting. It was cold and a little bit painful but distracting nevertheless.
"Sakura."
Sasuke sat next to her. He was silent, and Sakura felt no need to change that. She knew she was crying, but Sasuke said nothing about it. He let her grieve in silence. Sakura leaned her head onto his shoulder and laid his hand on her head, rubbing the back of her neck with his thumb.
"It'll be okay, Sakura."
She mentally voiced, you don't know that. Instead she said, "I hope so."
Kenji lay on the hard bed, trying to ignore Rudy's ramblings. He had no idea what was going on, and there was already a creepy guy with glasses who came in and forcibly drew some blood. He heard some whispering of, "It's been confirmed. His genes are perfect. Orochimaru-sama will be pleased."
Kenji shivered at the name itself. It was creepy and gross. He seemed like one of the men that his mother would warn him about at the park.
"Kiddo, get up. Orochimaru wants to see you." Shivers ran down his spine. He had a feeling this wasn't going to be fun.
There they were, less than a mile away from the lair. They decided it would be best to come up with a plan now. The two ANBU teams clearly didn't care about what happened to them, but they were on strict orders to keep them in line and to bring Sakura home.
However, Sasuke was planning on using them as cannon fodder. Sakura wouldn't like it, but he imagined his older brother and Kisame couldn't care less. The ANBU teams would draw fire at the front so they could sneak in through the secret entrance.
Sakura knew what Sasuke was planning. Normally, she'd be morally outraged at this, but this wasn't a normal situation. Her son was in danger. She didn't care who got hurt; she needed to save him. And that's exactly what she was going to do.
She would kill anyone who got in her way.
Itachi made clones of the four of them to go with the two ANBU teams. If anything, Itachi was feeling the greatest guilt of all. His brows were furrowed, and he almost seemed to be in physical pain. Sakura ignored this.
"Let's go get Kenji back."
Once inside the lair, Sasuke was clearly the head of the team. He knew it inside and out, and he, for once, looked determined to save another human being. They did come across a few stray ninja, but they were executed on the spot. The others had clearly drawn out most of the other ninja, and Sasuke was grateful for that.
Sakura whispered in his ear, and Sasuke nodded. "Where Orochimaru is, Kenji is. We find Orochimaru, we find Kenji." Sasuke turned on his Sharingan and motioned for the others to follow him.
They were quickly interrupted by the hulking blond man, Rudy.
"So you did come back, bitch."
Sakura felt her veins fuel with fire, and she knew since they came this way, Kenji was close behind. "Sasuke, keep going. I'll take care of him."
Sasuke narrowed his eyes at her. "Can you-"
"I can handle him, Sasuke. I'm stronger than you know." She smiled, confident. "Go. Go get our son." Sasuke nodded and ran off, slamming the doors behind him.
"Let's get started, bitch."
