Shine POV
I was frozen, kneeling on the ground, hands over my gaping wide mouth. My eyes slowly moved from the figure to Jack, whose expression was the same as mine.
"No WAY!" Jamie yelled. "THE SANDMAN!"
Sandy himself winked at the boy, a bowler hat made of golden dream sand appearing above his head. He tipped it in greeting to the kids before it burst back into the nothingness it originally was. Sandy looked at Jack, then over his shoulder at me, chuckling silently at our stunned, frozen expressions.
I slowly lowered my hands from my mouth, still wide in awe, and rose to my feet.
"Sandy?" Jack's voice shook slightly as he took a step forward. And another. And another. He stood right in front of the small golden man, looking down at him and grinning. Suddenly, he collapsed to his knees, flopping his arms over Sandy's shoulders in a huge hug. Sandy silently laughed and pat Jack's back as he buried his face into the golden shoulder and started to sob with joy. Like, actually sob. My eyes widened at Jack's sudden change of character. This tough, "manly" boy was on his knees and crying.
I couldn't help but giggle, at both Jack's tearful reaction and at the relief that had washed over me.
After a while, Jack shot up, falling on his butt and scooting away from Sandy, his eyes wide with surprise and fear (and of course, tears). Slowly, he turned his head, staring at me. "Did I just...?"
I fell to my knees, clutching my stomach with laughter at Jack's red, tear-stained face. He had finally reached the realization that he had started to full-on weep in front of not only me, but Sandy AND the kids as well.
"I can't believe I did that," Jack groaned, his voice muffled as he covered his face with his hands. Then, he furiously wiped the tears from his eyes onto his sleeve.
"Don't worry, Frosty. I won't tell anyone," I winked, still having little giggles burst from my mouth. "Only...everyone who can see me."
Jack groaned again, pulling his knees to his chest and bowing his head, hiding his face. Jamie calmed his laughter and knelt beside Jack. "Hey, Jack, it's okay to cry."
Jack mumbled an inaudible reply before raising his chin to look at the sky. He slowly pointed at the moon. "Bet you are laughing too, ya jerk."
I chuckled and helped Jack stand up by tugging on his sweatshirt. "We can make fun of you later, Frostbite, right now let's focus on-" I cut myself by pointing at Sandy, finding the situation self-explanatory.
Jack sniffled and I held back a laugh. He nodded and turned to Sandy, clearing his throat. "So. You're back."
Sandy chuckled, silently of course, and took my hand. He kissed the top of it, translating to "I missed you."
"But, how?" I asked.
Sandy released my hand and motioned to the kids. Jack and I nodded with understanding.
"So some kids started believing in good dreams again," Jack explained. "And brought you back."
Sandy tapped his nose with a cheeky grin.
A man sighed, looking down at Earth from above, in space. His black hair was slicked back neatly with gel, with only one strand falling across his pale forehead. He seemed almost identical to the man named "Sun", naturally towering at 20 feet, but there were a few distinct differences. Instead of red eyes like Sun, this man's eyes were a pale gray, almost melting into the whites of his eyes. His god-like robes looked much like Sun's, but instead of red, yellow and orange, there were black, white, and gray swirls. He sighed in sadness as he watched a man named Pitch Black yell into the sky.
"How ambitious you are," he whispered, a British accent flowing beautiful through the air, much like Sun's and Shine's. "You seem very intent on this plan of yours."
He chuckled, knowing that Pitch couldn't hear him from up here. He attempted to push back the one loose strand of hair, but it flopped back down onto his forehead. He looked back down at Earth with tired eyes, his vision zooming back in on Pitch.
"I trust Jack Frost, Shine, and the Guardians will be able to endure you and your Nightmares," he said. "I need to take no action here. Bringing back the Sandman was enough of a boost for them." His smile faltered, and he let out a small, sad sigh (still not quite that small when you're 20 feet tall). His hand moved to a chain around his neck. Hanging on the chain was a pure black quarter moon, surrounding by a thin circle that held it to the chain.
"I just hope you don't get destroyed by the darkness yourself," he lowered his voice even quieter (which is still not THAT quiet, he is 20 feet tall). "Good luck to you...
...
my old friend."
Pitch stood on another rooftop, staring into the forest as the Guardians ran in. "So, you're going to find them?" he chuckled to himself. "Well, good luck with that. A Bunny might be fast, and a fairy may fly, but let's see you outrun shadows," he said, Nightmare after Nightmare trotting up behind him. Soon, an army of hundreds stood behind him, ready. With a simple nod of his head, the shadowy horses rushed past him, pouring into the forest like an endless river of darkness. Pitch's chuckles turned into full cackles as he felt the horses rush past him. He spun around and looked back up at the moon.
"WHAT DO YOU SAY, MANNY?!" He laughed maniacally, tugging at a black chain that hung around his neck. The action pulled out a necklace that hid behind his shirt. It limply laid in Pitch's black hand. A small, black star, with a circle around it. "HOW ABOUT A LITTLE CLUB REUNION?!"
GASP! Can you guys guess who that mysterious unnamed man is? And what's with the matching necklaces? Who will get to Shine, Jack, and the kids first, the Guardians or the Nightmares? WILL WE EVER LEARN WHAT THE BEINGS OF DARKNESS ARE?!
But hallelujah, Sandy's back, right?
