Chapter 26: Cruelty From The Past

Davis and Ross continued to fight with each other with their claws clashing against each other. Davis tried slashing at him, but Ross jumped back. Ross kept trying to reason with Davis, but nothing he said got through.

"Will you snap out of it already Davis?! I'm getting real tired of this." Ross said.

"Does that mean you're giving up?" Davis said.

"Oh come on you know me better than that. I don't give up on something that's important." Ross said.

"You be wiser to just give up." Joomoe said. "The longer this fight goes on the more chances there is of you two taking the other out…for good."

"Yeah well no one's talking to you freak." Ross said.

"This has gone on far enough." Kari said.

"Joomoe tell us how to break Davis free of that mark." Tai said.

"Davis is doing this on his own free will. He is just a humble servant to me now. Even if I wanted to stop this I don't think I can." Joomoe said.

"You're sick Joomoe." Older Mimi said.

"Izzy isn't there anything we can do?" Older Yolei said.

"I'm not sure. I haven't gotten enough data on that mark on Davis, but it does seem like Davis is acting like himself." Older Izzy said.

"Izzy you're not saying Davis actually turned against us do you?" Tentomon said.

"No I'm just saying that Davis is still himself inside. Ross just has to figure out how to bring that outside." Older Izzy said.

"I just hope they do it before one of them gets hurt." Mimi said.

"That's right because they aren't holding back. If something happens to them then our Davis and I will be trapped here forever." Older Ross said. Davis kept trying to slash at Ross with his claws, but Ross was able to move out of the way and jumped up.

"Spiral Ice Claw."

Ross spun around with his claw out, but Davis crossed his claws above him. Ross crashed in with sparks flying out with the metal clashing against each other and Davis pushed back sending Ross away.

"That the best you can do?" Davis said.

"Just getting warmed up." Ross said.

"Not a good thing with ice." Davis said. He ran in straight at him. Ross tried striking with his claws, but Davis kept blocking it. Davis grabbed him by the arm and flipped him over his shoulder. Then Davis stomped down on Ross' chest.

"Get off." Ross said as he whacked his leg off. Ross tried kicking him, but Davis grabbed his leg and tossed him away. "Davis you can't keep this up. I just don't understand why do you want to keep fighting me."

"I don't understand why you don't just give it up." Davis said.

"If I told you once I've told you a thousand times. You aren't acting like yourself, Joomoe is controlling you, and I'm going to free you." Ross said. "Now help me understand. You said you wanted to be stronger, you don't want to be weak, but I have a feeling there's more to that then just sheer strength. Is there something else about this?"

'It seems he's finally catching on. The mark of Slikiamon digs through the heart and mind of a person until it finds the darkest of times in them both.' Joomoe thought. 'It reminded Davis of all those times and absorbs the darkness with in them. Now that all those awful memories are in his head it's what's driving him.'

"You ask me why." Davis said as he held his head low, staring at the ground. "If you're asking then you must not know my life story."

"Life story?" T.K. said.

"Wait a minute I think I get it." Older Davis said.

"What?" Ken said.

"It was before I became a digidestine, back when I was a child." Older Davis said.

"You're life story? What are you talking about?" Ross said.

"Just listen and you'll know what I'm talking about." Davis said. "It all started when I was younger. Years before I became a digidestine. My parents weren't around. My own sister despised me, just like anyone else who got to know me."

"What do your parents, your sister, or anyone have to do with this? You're not making sense." Ross said.

"Then just shut up and listen." Davis said.

Flashback

"People didn't know me so well. I thought I could make great impressions and have everyone think I was the coolest ever, but I was such a naive boy." Davis narrated. Davis was in about second grade on his first day of school.

"Alright why don't each of you come on up and say something about yourself." The teacher said. "Who wants to go first?"

"Me! I want to go first!" Davis said as a younger boy waving his hand around.

"Okay….Davis Motomiya." The teacher said after checking a roster. Davis ran up to the front of the room.

"My name is Davis Motomiya. I'm going to be the coolest guy ever. I'm going to be a star." That just had everyone laugh. "Hey what's so funny!?" As the laughing went on it had Davis' face go red from anger and humiliation.

"I was so stupid, a foolish child. It only got worse from that day on." Davis narrated. In gym class the kids were playing basketball and Davis had the ball.

'This is my chance to show everyone my skills.' Davis thought as he was dribbling the ball around, but then he tripped on his own shoe lases. Davis rolled into the wall. 'Well this couldn't be worse.' He jinxed himself because when he got up his pants fell down and the entire class laughed.

"Each day was the worst then the last." Davis narrated.

"That Davis kid is such a loser."

"What a weirdo and what's with hair color?"

"Davis Motomiya, more like Dork Motomiya" Davis heard it all and each day he cried with sadness or anger. One day when school ended it was pouring rain. Davis was expecting Jun to come and get him, but she never showed.

"Hey does anyone have an umbrella I can borrow?" Davis said, but each kid just walked by him leaving with their parent or someone so Davis was forced to run in the rain.

"What made it worse is that I didn't have a family to look after me." Davis narrated. Davis made it home and was soaked and Jun was home.

"There you are." Jun said.

"Yeah and you were suppose to come and pick me up." Davis said. "Where are Mom and Dad? When I tell them you are going to be in so much trouble."

"They aren't here. I think they're working late." Jun said.

"Again?" Davis complained.

"Yeah well I'm going to meet some friends." Jun said as she grabbed an umbrella.

"You're going to leave me alone?" Davis said.

"I'm not going to stick around and babysit a little brat." Jun said.

"You are the worst sister ever." Davis said as he tackled her down and started fighting with her. That's when their parents came walking in.

"Davis what are you doing?" Mrs. Motomiya said as she pulled him off Jun.

"It's not what you think." Davis said.

"It looks like you were trying to hurt you sister. Go to your room. We'll talk about this later." Mr. Motomiya said and he was forced into his room.

End Of Flashback

…

"I hardly ever got to see my parents and when they did it was when I was in trouble and they didn't listen." Davis said.

"Sad story, but that's still no excuse." Ross said.

"That's when I found out the truth. No one cares about me." Davis said.

"That's a lie Davis and you know it." Ross said.

"I knew you wouldn't understand and you never will." Davis said as he charged in, but Ross grabbed him by the claws stopping him from moving and the two were trying to push the other back.

"Davis you can't do this. You can't gain power like this." Ross said.

"You don't get it! Everywhere I looked everyone had the things I never could." Davis said and Ross jumped back. "If I never became a digidestine then I never would have met any of you. Everyone had friends and family when I didn't."

"But you saw your future self. You'll be a star. You'll have a family of your own." Ross said.

"That could just be a possibility. For all we know this isn't our actual future. You just don't get." Davis said.

"No I do get it." Ross said. "Everyone has problems they wish they didn't had. Problems they wish they could forget. Some people want others to suffer the way they suffered, but the right way is to get pass the pain. Sure you may not have had a happy childhood, but it was those times that gave you what you believe in. You can't just throw that all away when you gain a new power."

"I was completely alone. Maybe you understand once you join us. Of course that means I'll have to beat you down." Davis said as he went into another attack.

'This can't go on much longer. I have to put an end to this.' Ross thought, but not just the battle. He has to help put an end to Davis' pain.
