Summary: We can fight it. We can try to run, but sometimes, certain people come into our lives, make footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same again. What if she had a secret? A/N: This is my first Megan and Tommy fan fiction so please be kind. I got the idea after watching the show from season 1 -3 and the most important thing is that you will like it and I apologise for any spelling errors and incorrect grammar, which I shall sort out as soon as possible, well enjoy!

Ok, so in this story Megan and Tommy's relationship had been on and off for 6 years whilst Megan was a resident at New York General and Tommy was a rookie in the police force but, once Megan's residency was over and one of Tommy's stupid mistakes slowly ended anything they had left.

So Megan moved back to Philadelphia feeling alone and vulnerable with a secret that she could no longer keep and her only option was to go to the one person she did not want to turn to.

A huge thank you to my lovely Beta Reader Jenny-Gibbs-Forever who has been helping me with this story and I would be lost without her.

Chapter 26 - the favour

A week later

Megan was in her office finishing up on a case when there was knocked on Megan's door she looked up to see Todd at the door.

"What's wrong Todd are the girls alright?" Megan said bluntly

"Hello to you too Megs, the girls are fine calm down"

Megan frowned "then why are you here?"

Todd chuckled "always straight to the point aren't you megs"

Megan sighed and looked away from Todd for a second " I am actually here because , I have a favour to ask, could you possibly pick up Maddie and Lacey from a friend's house and possibly drop them to cheer and horsing riding?'

There was a slight pause until Megan spoke again "Yes I can... but why can't you, take them?"

Todd rubbed the back of his head and chuckled "If you don't want to be part of their lives then fine Megan, I will ask someone else to do it"

Megan glared at Todd "Of course I want to be part of their lives Todd what a stupid question".

"Well then what is the problem? You are providing transport for your children and their friend which is a parent's job" Todd asked bluntly

"Nothing, I know, what time do I need to be there?" Todd handed Megan a piece of paper

"You need to pick the girls up at 11, I have another favour could you have the girls over tonight I have a huge case and because I could be gone all day"

"Ok but, are the girls ok with this. I mean me looking after them?" Megan had a worried look on her face

"They'll understand and anyway you wanted to spend time with them now here's your chance"

"No Of course I will do it, I'd love to Todd" Todd smiled at Megan "thank you for this" Todd left the office.

Later that afternoon Megan was busy doing her job "Ermm Megan, aren't you meant to pick the girls up round about now?" Peter looked at his watch and Megan glanced at the big clock in the morgue

"Shit" Megan took off her white coat and shoved it at Ethan and chucked her gloves in the bin "Peter will you come with me, you have how many sisters? You know what car-pooling involves" Peter followed Megan out of the morgue "I have 3 sisters by the way" they left the Morgue and jumped in the car because they were running behind. Once they pulled up outside the friend's house Maddie and Lacey were sitting on the steps waiting for her with bored and rather angry looks upon their faces. Megan got out of the car and the girls got up of the step and made their way over to Megan dumping their bags in front of Megan for her to pick up.

"Hi, I'm Maddie and laceys mum" Megan said to Lacey's friend who smiled sweetly.

"your late" Maddie said bluntly as she chucked her bag on the ground and opened the door of the car when Peter grabbed the door "you can give your mother a break" Maddie rolled her eyes and got into the back of the car leaving Megan to pick up their bags and put them in the boot of the car. Lacey got into the car next to Maddie and Lacey's friend sat next to Lacey.

Megan got in to the car, dropped Lacey's friend home and then they headed off to drop the girls home. The ride in the car was quiet until Megan spoke "how was cheer and horse riding?" Megan looked at Maddie and Lacey waiting for their replies.

Lacey was the first to speak up "It was so much fun" Lacey squealed and Maddie just rolled her eyes and looked out the window rather than look at "her".

"Maddie how was cheer practice?" Megan pushed at the question

"Fine" Maddie mumbled

"well that's good, so your dad mention to you that you're staying at my place tonight so I thought it would be nice to invite grandma over for dinner what do you think?"

"Awesome" Lacey smiled and Maddie just shrugged "whatever"

Maddie was on the couch watching TV, while Megan and Lacey cooked dinner until they heard a knock at the door "you keep stirring", Megan smiled at her youngest as she put down her wine glass and answered the door

"Megan dear how are you?" Joan smiled as her daughter answered the door "who died?"

"What?" Megan looked confused

"It's not every day your own daughter invites you over for dinner" Joan smirked

Megan just rolled her eyes "Maddie and Lacey are here I thought you might of wanted to see them that's all" Megan moved aside as her mother walked into the house

"Dinners ready" Megan called out from the kitchen Joan and lace moved from the bench to the dining table and Maddie slowly dragged her self away from her TV show

15 minutes into dinner

"So how was work today Megan?" Joan asked, as her conversation with Maddie was not going far

"I knew it wouldn't take long before this whole night turns out to be about mom and her work," Maddie said in a raised voice before getting up and walking to the spare room

"Um thanks for dinner mom I'm going to go to bed" Lacey walked over and hugged her grandma "it was good to see you I missed you" Lacey smiled at the both of them before heading off to the second spare room

Megan took a long sip of wine before making eye contact with her mother "so why did you invite me over Megan?"

"I don't know what to do anymore my life's a mess, Todd hates me, Maddie hates me, Lacey I don't know and then" Megan stands up on wobbly feet "Tommy thinks he can walk back into my life like nothing happened"

"Did you say anything to him about… you know?" Joan got up to help her daughter stand

"Nope, thank you for coming to dinner mother I will be going to bed now" Megan turned but fell to her knees and sobbed

Sighing Joan bent down and rubbed her daughters back "shh it's going to be alright"
