Another Evil

"We have to tell her," Hanna tried to reason, the other two girls were against it. "She's going to find out eventually, I don't think that this was a one time threat."

"We can't tell her now!" Emily protested, keeping her voice low though no one else was in the kitchen. "Her sister just died. We're at her funeral." Hearing someone entering the kitchen, the girls stopped abruptly. Looking over, they saw Jason coming in, looking at all of them curiously. It was obvious they were talking about something, that something was up, but he hadn't heard anything.

"Hey...Jason," Hanna said.

"What's up?" Spencer asked now.

"Quinn asked me to check on you guys, since she's with Mike," Jason explained, looking between the three of them curiously. "What's going on?" The girls started to exchange a series of looks, mentally arguing over what to do with the message. "Guys, seriously," Jason interrupted. Sighing, Spencer nodded and Hanna handed over Quinn's phone to Jason.

I loved her and you took her from me
So I'm going to take everything from you - A

"Dammit," Jason murmured to himself in frustration. As if things couldn't get any worse around here. "And, Quinn hasn't seen this?"

"We just got it," Spencer explained and he nodded.

"Let me handle this," Jason said, putting Quinn's phone in his pocket. "I'll talk to Quinn, later tonight." The girls nodded quietly. What were they going to do, tell Quinn A was back in the middle of her sister's funeral? "Keep an eye out, and let me know if you get any messages."

"Ok," the girls all agreed.

Jason knew that there was no real right time to do this, to break the news to Quinn during the worst time of her life that there was yet another new A. He knew exactly where she was right now, losing a younger sister and there was nothing they could do to stop it. And, it wasn't like they had been on the best of terms when their sisters had passed away either. That night at their house, Jason was just sitting on their bed watching as Quinn changed out of her funeral clothes and into her night clothes, still in his suit himself.

"You wanna talk about it?" Jason finally broke the silence.

"Nope," Quinn shook her head, going into the bathroom to toss her clothes in the hamper. She stopped at the mirror to take her make up off, pulling her hair back. She noticed Jason leaning in the doorway now but didn't say anything to him.

"You wanna get out of Rosewood?" Jason asked her. She knew that he was serious, that this town wasn't any good for them.

"Can't," Quinn told him, wiping off her eye make up; she was numb, she had been for days. "Not till Mike and the girls all graduate anyway."

"Ok," Jason nodded in agreement, understanding that she didn't want to get out of here until the people she cared about could too. They were quiet as she finished taking off the rest of her make up. "Baby."

"Hm?" she asked, looking over at him finally. She was worn out, drained of all emotions.

"There's...something we need to talk about," he told her hesitantly.

"Are you pregnant?" she joked as she walked right by him out of the bathroom, though she didn't even crack a smile as she made the comment.

"Quinn," Jason said seriously, stopping her from getting into bed by taking her hand.

"I'm tired Jason," Quinn shook her head at him, taking her hand back. "I'm tired of talking about it, of thinking about it." This was the first time she had shown emotion in days, tears finally welling up out of the numbness. "Thinking of how...of how I screamed at her the last time I saw her."

"You didn't know," Jason defended her. There was no way for Quinn to know what her sister was hiding in her pillow case.

"I shouldn't have fought with her!" Quinn argued back. "She wanted to tell me something, about that summer and I just blew her off." She laughed at her own thought, as if she was being ridiculous. "I just needed this A thing to be over so badly." Jason wasn't good at hiding it, that expression that told her that something was wrong. "What?" she asked, looking him over.

"I didn't know how to tell you," he said, giving her her cellphone back after keeping a hold of it all day. She opened it up and read the last message that was sent to her.

"This is a joke," she accused, though she wasn't sure who she was accusing; obviously Jason hadn't done this to her. Jason shook his head quietly though and she read the message over again. "Do the girls know yet?"

"They're the ones that saw it," Jason nodded. Quinn gave up looking at the message, dropping her phone on the nightstand. "I know this isn't easy to talk about right now." Quinn shrugged, as if to say it didn't matter. At this point, Alison had been dead for over two years. This meant they had been living with A for just as long. Living without A was what felt abnormal at this point, feeling safe felt strange.

"Who did your sister date?" Jason asked. After all, the message was from someone that apparently loved Aria, enough to take their frustration with her death out on Quinn.

"Wilden," Quinn scoffed, sitting on the edge of their bed. "But, I doubt he's sending texts from his jail cell."

"Who else?" Jason asked, not saying anything about Wilden.

"Um...she was dating Ezra last year," Quinn said as she thought about it. "But, they were broken up for awhile. And..." She shrugged. "I think he's dating a Maggie something now."

"Anyone else?" Jason asked.

"Ah," Quinn tried to recall, running a hand through her hair. "She dated Eric's brother for, like, three weeks or something." She shook her head. "Who says we even know who it is? No one had any idea about her and Wilden."

"Except Ali," Jason commented quietly.

"Well, too bad we can't ask her," Quinn sighed, getting into bed now. Jason sighed, getting changed for bed now himself.

Hours after going to bed, with Jason sound asleep next to her, Quinn was unable to put her mind to rest. A was back, of course; the whole twisted game was starting over again, with a brand new player. Back to square one, they had no idea what they were up against. It wasn't really even A that was keeping her up tonight though, it was her sister.

Needing to clear her head, Quinn got out of bed, careful not to disturb Jason. Grabbing a sweatshirt to wear with her pajama pants, Quinn grabbed her keys and went for a drive. It wasn't intentional, but subconsciously she drove back to the cemetery. Before she knew it, she was standing in front of Aria's grave. She stood there for the longest time, just staring at it.

"I'm sorry I didn't listen to you," Quinn told her, a few stray tears falling. "I'm sorry things got so bad between us."

Behind her, there was the sound of twigs snapping. Quinn whipped around to see who was there, but saw nothing. Shaking her head at her imagination, she turned back to the grave. That was when she heard it again. This time, she turned in enough time to see a girl in a red coat with the hood pulled up darting away. She had seen that red coat before, she remembered going to shop for it on one of their few nice days together alone.

"Alison?" Quinn said out loud, going to follow her.

The girl picked up her pace and Quinn could see that she had blonde hair; Quinn started hurrying after her, but the girl managed to lose her. Quinn shook her head at herself, thinking that she was going crazy. Making her way back to the car, she saw on her phone she had a few missed calls and texts from Jason, asking where the hell she was. Quinn texted back to say she was coming home before starting her car.

Pulling away from the cemetery, she had to slam on her brakes when someone ran out in front of her. As clear as anything, it was Alison standing in front of her wearing the red coat, looking like a deer caught in the lights. After they made eye contact, Alison sprinted away.

"ALI!" Quinn shouted as she got out of her car, but it was too late; Alison already disappeared.

Quinn raced back to the house, unable to believe what she saw. Running up the porch steps, she fumbled with her keys as she tried to open the door in a hurry. Inside, she found not only Jason sitting up in the living room, but Spencer was there as well. Jason had called her to see if she had seen Quinn and, when Spencer hadn't, she walked next door to wait and make sure Quinn was all right.

"Where the hell have you been?" Jason demanded as Quinn was nearly out of breath, sitting in the chair next to the couch. He had been out of his mind with worry about her. He had gone out to look for her, driving by her parents' place and a few of the other places they used to go but came up with nothing. He came home to see if she was there when he got her message that she was on her way back, but she didn't say from where.

"I went," Quinn gasped, catching her breath as she sat down. "I went to the cemetery."

"Quinn," Spencer said gently. "That's..." She trailed off, not wanting to say it was a bad idea. "I know you wanna be alone, but it's not safe."

"What if something happened to you?" Jason asked her. This new A was just as dangerous as the other ones, maybe even more dangerous and Quinn was off to the cemetery in the middle of the night, alone?

"Listen to me!" Quinn stopped them. "I saw..." She shook her head, closing her eyes as she could practically see her now, running out in front of her car. "I saw Alison." Jason and Spencer didn't know what to say, just staring at her. "I know how it sounds-"

"I really don't think you do," Spencer told her, unable to say it gently.

"Were you drinking tonight?" Jason asked her.

"No!" Quinn protested in complete offense.

"You can't blame me for wondering," Jason argued back. "You disappear in the middle of the night, and you tell me you saw-"

"I saw Alison," Quinn cut him off and he shook his head.

"Alison, she's," Spencer started off slowly. "Ali's...dead Quinn."

"You don't think I know that?" Quinn snapped at Spencer now. "I was at her funeral." Quinn shook her head. "Both times."

"I know you're upset," Spencer tried to continue.

"If I was upset, I'd hallucinate my sister," Quinn reasoned, looking at Jason now. "Not yours." Jason didn't say anything still. "I'm not crazy Jay, I know what I saw."

"Darren admitted to killing her," Jason told her.

"He was looking at the death penalty if it went to trial," Quinn said back. "He plead guilty to get life in jail. All he said was he hit her and buried her."

"And what?" Jason asked as he thought she was being ridiculous. "Ali dug herself out?" Quinn didn't have an answer. "And where has she been for two years?" Still nothing from Quinn. "And who's body was-"

"I know she was there!" Quinn shouted at him, getting up now. "I'm not crazy."

"I'm not saying you are baby," Jason shook his head, softening a bit now. "But...I just think you made a mistake."

"I didn't," Quinn said before heading upstairs, going to their room and slamming the door. Jason sighed, his head falling back against the couch.

"Do you want me to stay?" Spencer offered.

"I can walk you home," Jason offered. They were quiet for a moment, not moving yet.

"Do you think she really saw her?" Spencer asked and Jason looked at her like she was crazy. "It was just a question," she shrugged.

"Do you?" Jason asked.

"I think she's just really upset," Spencer reasoned and Jason nodded in agreement. "And...I think..." She didn't finish her thought.

"You think what?" Jason asked curiously.

"Her Uncle Scott had a lot of problems," Spencer said; Jason remembered going to his funeral in high school when he and Quinn first started dating. "Mike's depressed, he's been getting help for that. And Aria..." Spencer had no words, looking at her hands now. "Had some kind of personality thing, I don't even know what." She looked back to Jason. "A lot of this stuff...it runs in families."

"You think Quinn's actually hallucinating," Jason said.

"I think she should talk to someone about it," Spencer said. "Someone that's not as caught up in it as the rest of us."

Quinn was absolutely furious with Jason right now as she sat on the couch the next morning, her arms crossed over herself. After talking to her mom about it, Jason called Wren of all people to come talk to her about Aria and what was going on with her; Jason reasoned it was a good idea because Wren already knew what happened with Aria, he had been the one treating her. The way Quinn saw it, it was Jason just saying that he thought that she was crazy. Right now, he was lucky he was back at work at the school; Quinn's work was forcing her to take the rest of the week off. This wasn't how she planned on spending her day though, sitting on the couch with Wren in complete silence.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Wren asked her.

"About what?" Quinn asked sarcastically. "My sister's suicide, or me hallucinating Jason's sister in the cemetery."

"So, you were hallucinating?" Wren asked her; she ignored him. "Were you under the influence or-"

"No," Quinn cut him off with a glare. "I wasn't hallucinating, but everyone already made up their minds about it."

"And what is your mind saying?" Wren asked.

"She was there last night Wren," Quinn told him. "I saw her, I almost hit her with my car."

"How have you been sleeping Quinn?" Wren asked, changing the subject as he observed the bags under her eyes.

"I haven't," she muttered, sinking back into her seat further.

"Sometimes, sleep deprivation can cause people to...imagine things," Wren tried to reason. "Things that they might wish were there."

"If we're wishing for things," Quinn told him. "It would make more sense if I saw Aria."

"Maybe, you associate everything that's happened with Alison," Wren said. "With her disappearance, came all of these changes. Namely, your relationship with your sister."

"Or maybe I'm just insane," Quinn said cynically.

"You're not insane," Wren assured her. "You have gone through a lot in the last two years." He looked her over once, his expression soft. "It's going to change how you see things, how you feel about them."

"Can I go?" Quinn said suddenly. "I don't...I don't want to do this right now." Wren nodded in understanding.

"You have my number, if you want to talk about this again," Wren told her, getting up from his seat to let himself out. "I can help you Quinn."

"I appreciate it," Quinn told him as he left. The only thing she needed help with right now though was figuring out where Alison had been all this time.
