Just like any typical highschool routine that day Merli-sensei decided to give them a project that needed to be worked by pair. And of course, they weren't surprised (but they were still disappointed) that Merli-sensei was to be picking their partners instead of letting them select the partner of their choice. It was for equality, she had reasoned, she didn't want to see students who'll end up not getting picked.
"Teto and Nemu."
"Huh?" Teto tilted her head, befuddled," We have a classmate named Nemu?"
"That's just rude, Teto," SeeU pointed out, seeing a certain petite girl, with short black hair styled into a jaw-length bob, flinch at the mention of her name and retreat more into her seat at the corner," It's been almost a year, you should've known our classmates by now."
"Meh."
"In case you don't know," Gakupo suddenly butted into their conversation, flashing them a tooth glinting smile," I'm your hottie classmate named Gakupo by the way."
Both girls just gave Gakupo a deadpanned expression.
"What? I'm hot."
"Knowing the place you came from, I'm not surprised," SeeU said flatly.
Teto laughed at him.
"And the only hottie here is Len," Teto shot back, childishly poking out her tongue at the samurai-wannabe.
"Ouch," Kaito dramatically said, placing a hand on his chest for added effects," You've forgotten me."
"No, I haven't," Teto blinked.
"Just so you know, Len has turned cold," Here Kaito smiled," Ba dum tsss…"
SeeU shot Kaito a very deadpanned look," That was the worst pun I've ever heard, Kaito."
"I think it was cool," Gakupo grinned, winking but failing in the process, looking like a retard blinking his eyes.
"Just stop," SeeU heaved a deep breath, counting one to five in her mind as she tried to calm herself from the onslaught of their idiocies," All these lame puns."
"Hey-" Gakupo was supposed to retort when…
"… nd Gakupo."
Hearing his name, Gakupo automatically shot up from his seat before he could even register what his what doing.
"Yes, Ma'am!" As if that wasn't enough, he added a salute to that remark.
"You'll be partnered with Haku," Merli-sensei said unflinchingly, without even batting an eyelash at Gakupo's weirdness, had probably gotten exposed to it to an extreme extent.
Haku merely raised her hand in affirmation.
Eventually Gakupo just plopped back down to his seat, beyond satisfied with the outcome of his would be partner.
"Sayu and Len."
"Looks like the lovebirds have to be separated this time," Kaito casually commented.
"About damn time," Teto grumbled.
"Rin and Kaito."
"Looks like the lovebirds have to be separated this time," SeeU teased Kaito.
"Ha ha ha, SeeU."
Kaito merely shot Luka a look that only the two of them could understand, had ever understood and will ever understand.
'Those two,' SeeU inwardly shook her head.
"Luka and SeeU."
After informing everyone of their given partners Merli-sensei gave them the rest of the time to go to their partners and discuss what needs to be discussed for the project.
Like everyone, SeeU compliantly approached Luka in her seat, figuring that Luka's place near the window was better than hers where majority of the class had decided to hold their so called discussion with their respective partners. In all actuality, most of the class just chose the farthest side of the classroom to get the opportunity to chatter about everything but their scholastic topic and fiddle with their phones, doing whatever teens do in this modern day and age.
"SeeU, can I ask you a question?" Luka suddenly asked after deciding and discussion what they would be doing for their given task.
"Sure, what is it, Luka?" SeeU replied, occupied with placing back her pens inside her pencil case.
Luka was reluctant at first but eventually managed to muster enough resolve to voice out her question.
"Are you and Len okay?"
SeeU immediately stiffened for a moment, taken aback by the abrupt question. She had automatically schooled her expression and composed herself, shooting Luka a smile.
"Why wouldn't we be?"
"Because…" Luka trailed off, hesitating.
"Because Len doesn't hang around me as much as before?" SeeU smiled.
Luka wordlessly nodded.
"Things have changed now, Len's priorities have changed," SeeU looked at the window, a faraway look on her face and a wistful smile playing on her lips," I'm proud of the good changes that happened to Len. I'm happy for him. No matter what happens or regardless of distance, Len will always be my bestfriend. Nothing will change that. I'll always be looking after him. And he'll always be that blonde shota who couldn't tie his necktie properly, who's allergic to hazelnuts, who whines for pizza and banana cocoas, who still watches cartoons on most days and who likes to pretend that he doesn't believe in love."
She looked back at Luka who had a soft expression on her face.
"I'm sorry for rambling. I just got carried away," SeeU smiled, trying to lighten the atmosphere.
"No," Luka replied," That was just what I needed to hear."
Eventually after class only a few students who were working on their project with their partners were left in the classroom.
While SeeU was immersed in scribbling some outline for their assigned task, occasionally exchanging comments with Luka who was also writing in her own notebook, Sayu had all of a sudden approached her.
"Uh… SeeU, Len left his notebook when we were discussing plans for our project. Could you give it to him?" Sayu said, handing her a black notebook with his name scribble on the side in that familiar chicken penmanship that Len had always failed to get rid of.
"Sayu, I think you should be giving that notebook to Rin instead," SeeU pointed out, gesturing at Rin who was seated not far away from them, Kaito perched on the chair beside her pestilently clicking on his ice cream designed pen which SeeU remembered was given by Luka last year.
"Huh?" Rin instantly whipped her head towards their direction upon hearing her name being mentioned.
"Kagamine left his notebook. Could you return it to him?" SeeU pointed out, returning to her work.
Sayu casted a glance at SeeU before shuffling over to where Rin was, handing her the notebook.
"SeeU, have you ever fallen in love?"
It was a slow afternoon for the book club members and the temporary ones. SeeU was typing away on her laptop, Rinto was sitting across her twirling her pen in boredom, Akiko was reading a book at corner, Neru was texting away on her phone next to SeeU and the rest of the members where nowhere to be found, when the blonde boy decided to pop the sudden question.
SeeU looked up from her laptop screen to regard the boy," Is this about that platinum blonde girl you always follow around?"
Rinto's face instantly took on a bright red hue.
"H-how did you know?" Rinto stammered, stumbling over his words with a flustered demeanor.
"I oftentimes see you guys around campus," SeeU smiled teasingly," She's quite the catch by the way."
"You didn't answer my question," Rinto's voice suddenly rose higher due to embarrassment, hoping to change the direction of their topic.
"Okay, okay," SeeU chuckled at his flustered expression," Well… hmm… depends, I guess."
"Depends?" Rinto tilted his head in befuddlement," In what?"
"What your definition of love is."
"That's deep."
"Ha, tell me about it."
"How about the kind of love you have for that Kagamine boy?"
"What?"
"What?" Rinto blinked at the sudden change in her expression and demeanor.
"I HAVE ARRIVED!" Teto loudly announced, slamming the poor door open and barging inside the modest clubroom, interrupting their conversation in the process.
"The whole world doesn't have to know, Teto," Neru pointed out, briefly glancing up from her phone to glare at said girl.
"I think you just damaged my eardrums," Rinto complained.
"You'll live," Teto waved her hand dismissively before plopping down on the seat beside Neru.
And as Rinto continued to berate the redhead about the dangers of eardrums being damaged SeeU couldn't help but inwardly sigh in relief.
