"Fitz hurry, we're going to be late!" Liv yelled as she threw on her heels and checked her hair once more before going to find Fitz.
"The blue tie with the pin stripes, or the red tie?"
"Red. No one will hear a word you say with the pinstripes. Now hurry, we don't want to keep Oprah waiting!"
Liv decided to wait until she was fully settled into the White House before agreeing to do the First Lady edition of The Next Chapter. She had also promised that Oprah could be the one to reveal the sex of the baby. They would find out the same time America did what the sex would be.
"Ok I'm ready, how do I look?"
"You look like the sexiest president I've ever seen."
"Even sexier than Kennedy?"
Liv jokingly hesitated for a moment which prompted Fitz to pull her in closely.
"Yes, even sexier than Kennedy."
After 6 months of married life Fitz learned to not touch Liv's hair or makeup once she was ready to go so he opted to kiss her neck instead.
"So, are you ready to go see Oprah yet again today my love?"
"As ready as I'll ever be. I just hope that after following me around the past week she has enough footage for to night's revealing. Lets just hope that this baby doesn't come in the middle of the interview."
Liv didn't want to alert Fitz that she had been having a tightness and sometimes pain through her back and abdomen all morning long. She managed to make through the entire day completely fine. She didnt want to get Fitz worked up if she wasn't really in labor. Liv just wanted to get the interview over with and worry about the rest after.
Liv grabbed Fitz's hand and began to take a step when an unbearable pain overcame her causing her to grab onto his hand harder than she had expected.
"Livvie, are you ok?"
"I'm fine." Liv responded between clenched teeth.
"Liv, how long has this been happening?"
"This is the first one but, we are going to see Oprah! This isn't the full interview, just the revealing of the sex if the baby and the airing of the footage we shot earlier. They are doing it in pieces."
The pain let up and Liv began following Fitz into the nursery to meet with Oprah. Once inside Liv felt another pain coming but decided to not tell Fitz just yet. She sat quietly trying to catch her breath and prepared to go on live national television.
"Madame First Lady! How are you my dear?" Liv tried to stand but Oprah motioned for her to remain seated and walked over to her and embraced her in a hug. Fitz watched every move Liv made and suspected she this time wasn't a false alarm like the first five. She looked like she was possibly in active labor. Fitz watched Liv carefully and timed her wincing. So far it was about 20 minutes apart.
"Livvie, are you sure you're ok?" Fitz asked as he and Oprah notice Liv clenching onto the sofa so hard her knuckles were turning white.
"Fitz, we promised the Nation Oprah would tell all of us today if it is a boy or a girl and damnit I don't go back on my promises. We are doing this and we are doing this now." She growled causing Oprah to grow concerned.
"Ok Mrs. Grant if you need to be tended to by a doctor in sure America will understand."
"Im fine. There, the cramping has stopped. Lets get this done before this decides he won't wait. Just in case, can we start with the sex of the baby and we'll finish the interview in the hospital if needed."
"Even if all we get is to say the sex of the baby, we have more than enough edited footage to roll in order to fill the rest of the special. Either way, your health comes first."
Liv understood what Oprah was saying and thanked her for her concern and accommodations.
They had one minute before they were set to go live across 5 major networks. Oprah would ask them a few questions and reveal the sex of the baby, the whole thing wouldn't take more than 20 minutes.
..."Action"
"Good evening, we are here tonight with America's favorite couple President Fitzgerald and First Lady Olivia Grant. Now we have decided instead of making all of you wait it out to tell you now the sex of the baby. President and Mrs. Grant, are you ready?"
They both nodded their answers and waited in suspense with the rest of America.
"Ok America, the newest addition to the Grant family is... A girl."
"A girl that will be as beautiful as her mother? Wow." Fitz said as he looked at Liv with loving eyes.
"Mrs. Grant, how do you feel about this news?"
Liv sat completely frozen for a moment before responding. "I feel like... Oprah, I feel... My water just broke."
"Shit." Fitz yelled out forgetting the cameras were rolling on live national television. Fitz ran to the door and called for Tom. Oprah repeated the sex of the baby then forwarded to commercial. All of America knew that the First Lady was in labor, and all they could do sit and wait for the newest Grant to come.
"And we're clear." the director yelled from the back of the room.
Oprah flew over to Liv's side to make sure she was ok.
"Mrs. Grant, is there anything I can do?" Oprah asked unsure of what she could possibly do to help.
Liv shook her head as she felt another contraction coming over her. Fitz held out his hand for Liv and instantly regretted giving her his entire hand the moment she clamped down on it with the strength of ten men.
Fitz looked at his watch and realized this contraction was only 10 minutes from the last one. It was time to go. Fitz thanked Oprah and told her they would continue the interview once Liv was home. Oprah and her camera crew said their goodbyes and left Liv with their well wishes. Fitz waited for Liv's contraction to end before helping her into a spare dress and an extra pair of panties he had brought just in case.
Liv decided that if she was going to live in a bubble for the next few years she wanted to at least have a bit of normalcy and have their baby in a normal hospital and not in some private sector.
"Fitz, what would I do without you?" Liv said as he zipped up her dress and lifted her to carry her to the car that was awaiting.
When they arrived at the hospital Fitz could tell Liv's contractions were coming harder and faster because her mood changed drastically.
"Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III you are never fucking touching me again! DO YOU HEAR ME! NEVER!" Liv screamed as the next contraction raced through her body.
Two hours had passed and Liv was feeling the effects of the epidural that was placed not too long after she arrived. She laid in the bed with Fitz by her side stroking her hair.
"How do you feel now Livvie?" Fitz asked knowing her earlier outburst was the pain speaking.
"Im sorry I was so bad to you earlier. I am so, so very sorry. I love you." Liv said trying to fight back tears. She couldn't believe the things she yelled at him because of the pain she was in.
"It's fine Livvie, I know you didn't mean it. It was the pain talking." Fitz said as he kissed her forehead.
They sat for a little while longer talking about any and everything they could think of.
"Hey Livvie, check this out. #GoodLuckFLOTUSandPOTUS is trending!" Fitz showed Liv his phone and sure enough, her labor was trending on Twitter.
"Fitz, can you hand me my phone please? So I can send out a tweet to America. I want to let them know I'm ok."
Fitz grabbed Liv's phone and handed it to her and watched as she began tweeting the nation.
"Still waiting on Baby Grant to arrive. I'm comfortable. I see we're even trending! Thank u to all of u for your prayers and support. -FLOTUS"
Fitz decided he would tweet the nation as well.
"Baby G is taking her sweet time entering the world. FLOTUS is resting comfortably 4 now. Thanks all 4 ur well wishes. I see ur trend. -POTUS"
Liv decided to send one more tweet to let Fitz and the nation know at the same time.
"Wish POTUS and me luck, IT'S TIME! -FLOTUS"
Fitz looked down at his phone and saw Liv's update. "Livvie, 15,000 likes, 948 comments, and 22,000 RTs in two minutes? All for..." Once he realized what the tweet meant, he ran out and got the doctor.
The doctor entered the room and examined Liv. She was definitely ready to push.
"Ok Mrs. Grant on three try to push for as long as you can. Ready?"
Liv looked up to Fitz for reassurance.
"It's ok boss, you've got this. Im here and I'm not going anywhere. Are you ready to meet your daughter?"
Liv nodded as she grabbed onto Fitz's hand.
" Ok Mrs. Grant, on three. 1...2...3...push."
Liv let out an earth shattering scream with the first push. She pushed for as long as she could before stopping. Only getting a few seconds to barely catch her breath.
"Ok Mrs. Grant, I can see the head again, 1...2...3...push!"
Liv pushed again for as long and hard as she could. All she wanted to do was take a break in between but no one would let her.
"One last time Mrs. Grant Ready?"
"No! I changed my mind. Im not ready to have this baby. Cant we just keep her here?" Liv began crying in a fit of panic. This hurt far worse than she thought it would.
"C'mon boss, you can do this. You are Olivia Pope Grant. There is nothing you can't do!" Fitz said as he tried his best to calm his wife down.
"Ok..." Liv said already feeling exhausted.
"Ok Mrs. Grant 1...2...3... Push!"
Liv pushed with every ounce of strength her body had left. She could feel when the baby's hips were beginning to emerge.
"Oh my fucking god hips do lie!" Liv screamed as she finished her final push and collapsed onto the bed.
"Livvie laid there trying to catch her breath."
"Mr. President, would you like to cut the cord?"
Fitz nodded and kissed Liv on the head before walking over and joining the doctor to cut the cord.
Liv laid there exhausted watching as the doctor cleaned out the baby's respiratory system and listened to her cry her first cry.
"Mrs. Grant, have you decided whether or not you want to nurse or bottle feed the baby?"
"Im nursing her."
The doctor nodded in approval and brought the baby to Liv for her first feeding. Surprisingly both Liv and the baby caught on rather quickly.
"So Livvie, what shall we name her?"
"I like Savannah Carolyn Grant."
"It's perfect." Fitz said as he kissed both his wife and his daughter.
Liv finished feeding the baby and proceeded to get cleaned up. Surprisingly she didn't need any stitches. Once she finished cleaning up, they were taken up to their private room.
Fitz sent for Cyrus who was pacing the the halls of the hospital anxious to see his friends and meet his goddaughter.
"Liv, how are you feeling?"
"I feel like I was hit by a 6lb 3oz Mack truck."
Cyrus kissed his friend's hand and turned to shake Fitz's.
"Congratulations to the both of you."
"Thanks Cy, now come meet Savannah Carolyn Grant."
Cyrus held Savannah in his arms and couldn't believe that this beauty was here.
"Hey Fitz, lets send our thank you to the nation by tweeting the baby name. That way we don't have to worry about contacting people separately."
"Ok, lets do it. We'll hit send at the same time."
"SHE'S HERE! At 6lbs, 3oz baby Savannah Carolyn Grant has finally arrived! Thank you all so much for your prayers & well wishes. Love, the Grants"
Within minutes #SavannahCarolynGrant and #CongratulationsFLandPOTUS were trending.
Ok Cy, you get THREE pictures for James until we get back to the White House. He gets the exclusive pictures for his article as promised." Liv said as she fixed her hair and put on a little lip gloss.
Cyrus took a picture of Liv and Savannah in the hospital bed, one of Fitz holding Savannah as he was sitting at Liv's bedside, and one of the three of them together.
"Ok Cy, you can have one more of Savannah by herself BUT, this one is only for you." Liv said as she closed her eyes for a rest.
Cyrus sent the first three pictures to James before taking a fourth for him to have himself. He said goodbye to his friends, assured Fitz all was fine at the White House, and headed on his way.
Fitz watched as Liv slept tossing and turning every so often. Fitz would whispered into her ear alerting her he was still there. Finally she woke from her terrible sleep.
"Lay with me Fitz? Hold me?" Liv asked in a sleep filled voice.
Fitz climbed into bed and held his Livvie close as she slept peacefully through most of the night only waking to feed Savannah. Fitz laid next to her and closed his eyes. He soon found himself drifting off to sleep holding the love of his life, the mother of his child, his wife. He couldn't wait until they returned home.
