Chapter 26: Surprises Can Be Good

Nessie's POV

I pretty much spent the rest of the day resting. I didn't see nor hear from my family for a good while so I was assuming that they were just letting me rest.

That's how the next two days went actually. My family pretty much left me alone. So did Jake too. I had to admit that I was a little hurt by that. I missed my Jacob. He made me happy. I loved him and he loved me. We completed each other. We were like two halves of a whole.

Every single time that I tried to talk to him though he kept saying that he was 'too busy'. I tried to pretend like I wasn't hurt by that, but I'm not sure how well I was able to trick anyone.

So for the most part it was just my son and I. I guess you can say that we kept each other company. Though I'm not sure if a baby really counts as company.

I turned on the TV in my room with my son laying by my side. I heard someone enter the room. When I looked up I saw that it was just Jacob.

I ignored him. If he could ignore me as he had for the past few days then I would do the same to him.

"Hey Nessie" Jacob said, trying to get my attention.

"What do you want Jacob?" I said, the annoyance I felt saturated my voice.

"Nessie are you feeling okay?" he asked me, a bit surprised by the acid in my voice.

"Oh I'm just wonderful Jake. How could I not be wonderful when all you've done is pretty much ignore me these past few days. Every time that I try to talk to you say that you're 'too busy'. Yeah, I definitely don't have anything to complain about" I said very sarcastically.

"Nessie, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. It's just that I've been planning something. A surprise. I didn't want you to find out about it"

"What are you talking about Jacob?" I asked him. You know something? Those puppy dog eyes of his made it very hard to stay angry with him.

"I mean that I've been planning something for you. I didn't want you to find out about it. That's why I have been avoiding you. I'm really sorry though. I didn't realize that I was hurting you. I never meant to hurt you"

My anger was beginning to dissolve now.

"Can you please forgive me?" Jacob begged.

"I don't know Jake" I said.

"Hey Nelson" Jake said as he picked up my baby. "Do you think your mom should forgive me.

Nelson nodded his head 'yes'.

"See Ness" Jake said. "Even your son thinks that you should forgive me"

"Okay, okay fine. You're forgiven. Just don't ever do that again" I stated firmly. "and Jake you know that I hate surprises" My hatred of surprises was something that I had gotten from my mother. Something that I had just learned recently.

"You'll love this one. At least that is what I hope. Anyway will you come out to dinner with me tonight?"

"Of course I will Jake" I said. "I would love to go out to dinner with you" clearly I had gotten over my previous anger and irritation with him quickly.

Jacob smiled brightly.

I rested a little while longer before deciding that I should get ready for our date. Alice insisted on dressing me up like a barbie doll. Honestly Alice was a little overbearing at times, but I still loved her anyway.

My family didn't mind me leaving Nelson with them.

Soon Jacob and I left together. We got to the restaurant and ordered our food.

For some reason Jacob seemed really nervous. I was left to wonder again what the surprise was. He was not going to tell though.

"Jacob are you okay? You seem nervous" I said.

"I'm fine" he said, but I could tell that he was lying. He was keeping something from me. Throughout dinner he got even more It was kinda cute acutually. Nervous Jacob was adorable. At the end of dinner he ordered some fancy Champagne for us, despite the fact that we were both underage.

"Champagne Jake? Really?" I said.

"Yes, Nessie. Really. It's just a special something for a special occasion" he said in a mysterious way.

"Okay" I said.

I started to drink the champagne. As I was drinking I felt something press against my lips, something that was not champagne.

Curiously I pulled out the mysterious object. It was a beautiful, diamond ring. I looked at Jacob and saw that he was kneeling down right in front of me.

It took several seconds for me to realize what was happening. My heart started going a million miles an hour

"Nessie, I'm in love with you. And you're in love with me too. There is nothing that I want more then to marry you. I want to be your husband and I want to be Nelson's father. I want to be a family with you. Nessie will you do me the extraordinary honor of marrying me?"

I started crying tears of happiness. "Of course I will Jacob" I said.

Jacob then hugged me tightly.

"Thank you Nessie" he said.

"No, thank y-"

I was cutoff when Jacob's warm lips met mine. In that second it was just us. Just him and I. Nothing else mattered.

I could hear the other people in the restaurant saying "aww" and a bunch of other sweet things. I had to admit that I was a little embarrassed by all of the attention. But I didn't care.

I was now officially engaged and I could not be happier.

"Jake you do realize that I could have easily choked on the ring though, right?"

By the look on his face, I didn't think that he considered that.
