The Mission
Chapter 25: Denial of the day of snow

How did this happen? How could Maka and I let our guard down like that so Medusa could sneak inside of Shibusen and steal the book of witches? This is a disaster. Time is slowly running out for us now. We need to find Medusa and quick. If she gets out of Death City with the book and brings it to the grand witch, it is over for Death City.

I was currently running through the streets of Death City. It is a new day and I had to do everything to find Medusa. Yesterday after the meeting, I wanted to go and search but Maka managed to convince me to get some sleep instead. I still don't understand how she had managed but she had somehow convinced me.

''Soul! There is no use running around like a dork! We need to be smart about this!'' Maka said as she ran beside me. As soon as I had awoken this morning, I had thrown on my clothes and run out of the apartment, fortunately for Maka, she had already been awake and been quick to follow me out of the apartment.

''I know! But it is better than just sitting on our butts and doing nothing! We need to find Medusa right now!'' I yelled as I continued to run, looking at each and every person walking down the road or every driver and passenger who drove down with their vehicles.

Maka hooked her arm around mine as she stopped me dead in my tracks, almost making me fall but I managed to avoid that with my reflexes, ''just stop. Medusa would be able to hear you within miles radius Soul.'' Maka scolded at me as she looked into my eyes.

I cursed for acting on my impulses. This is not a cool situation. If she was anywhere nearby she would have definitely sneaked away from us with the book of witches. Why did I freaking let her take the book?! Why did I let the madness take over my sanity and hurt my friends?!

''Soul… calm down,'' Maka said softly as she put her hands on my shoulders, caressing them as she moved closer to me. ''You need to calm down and think about what you are doing, yelling and running around like a crazy chicken won't do anything good.'' She moved close enough to me as she whispered into my ear, ''she doesn't know we are the ones tracking her but she has to know it by now with your yelling.'' Shit, I had let my impulses ruin everything. Well, at least now she will now who will take her down and steal the book back.

Sighing heavily, I looked down at the ground. ''I'm sorry, what do you suggest we do?'' I asked and Maka giggled, pulling up my chin so she could look into my ruby eyes.

''Now we calm down and I will search for her but I doubt I will find her with my soul perception. Medusa isn't stupid and a witch wouldn't be wandering the streets without soul protection on.'' Maka smiled as she caressed my shoulders, ''but I will try it out anyway.'' She slowly closed her eyes as her thumbs caressed my shoulders as I wrapped my arms around her waist in return. She kept her eyes closed as her nose did that cute little thing when she concentrates.

Her eyes were closed to a while before she opened them again, looking into my eyes as she shook her head. ''I couldn't find anything.'' I knew she wouldn't find anything because it would just be stupid if she didn't have her Soul Protect on but I still kind of hoped at some clue to find her.

Maka sigh as her hands slide down my chest as she laced her fingers into mine. ''I'm sorry Soul… but we can't find her. We have nothing to go on.'' She rested her head in the crook of my neck. ''I'm sorry…''

For once, I actually felt completely useless. We couldn't track down Medusa and find the book of witches and I wasn't allowed to confront Noah. I feel completely and utterly useless. This is the first witch assassinate/capture mission I have failed. Oh man and this one is the most important too! I can't let them get their hands on the book of witches! But how will I find Medusa and the book when we have nothing to go on?

''Don't apologize…'' I whispered as I hugged her, caressing her back. ''We will figure out something… but we can't do anything right now… not without any leads.'' She sighs as she planted a kiss on my neck.

''Let's go home… we can come up with something better there…'' She pulled away from my neck and tugged lightly at my hand. I let her drag me toward our apartment. This sucked badly. If the grand witch manages to get her hands on the book we are done. She will use the dark magic and other terrible spells against Shibusen.

We slowly ascend the stairs to our apartment and Maka opened our apartment door and on the floor inside of our apartment was mail laying around. I picked it up and looked through the envelopes. The most of them were the bills we would have to pay but there was one letter that caught my attention. It was a white envelope with a red wax seal with had the letter A on it with neatly cursive letter style, on the front of the envelope stood Maka's name and our address neatly written.

''This is for you,'' I said as I handed her the letter and she thanked me but froze as she laid eyes on the red wax sealing.

''What is the matter, do you know who send you the letter?'' I asked as I closed the apartment door behind us and slipped out of my shoes. Maka took off her shoes too as she walked to the couch with an expressionless look on her face as she continued to stare at the sealing.

She took a seat on the couch as she continued to look at the sealing, ''It is my mother's seal…'' She whispered barely audible but I could hear it as clear as a sunny day.

Her mother had been killed a while ago before Maka had joined Shibusen. She had killed the man who had killed her mother and she had told me she suffered from guilt from it. She was constantly in thoughts of the man who took her mother's life. She thought if he had a family, wife and kids and she had then taken their father and husband away from them. She thought she wasn't any better from him.

''But your mother is dead,'' I pointed out the fact and Maka slowly broke the seal and looked over the letter.

''it is from my aunt…'' she whispered as I took a seat next to her. I was definitely curious about that letter but I didn't want to intrude. If Maka wants to tell me what the letter says then she will tell me. It is her letter and it is her choice to share it with me or not.

Makas' eyes wandered the page as she read the letter silently for herself. She then gasped as she covered her mouth with her gloved hand. ''Oh no…''

Immediately I got even more curious of what the letter said and I moved closer to her, wrapping my arm around her shoulders. ''What does it say?'' I asked gently as Maka's eyes started to tear up.

''I-I have to spend Christmas Eve with my aunt… She says she wants me back to my hometown since she hasn't seen me since I transferred here to Shibusen…'' I pulled Maka into a gentle hug as I caressed her back.

''Don't you like your aunt or something?'' I carefully asked and Maka broke out crying.

''N-No… i-it is just… I-I want to be here… with you…'' Maka sobbed as she had her head buried in my chest, making my shirt wet from her tears. I didn't want her to go either, but this is her family. Family sticks together no matter what.

''Maka… you should go. This is your relative we are talking about.'' I said and there was nothing more I would have wanted than spending Christmas with Maka.

''I-I know! But I want to be with you on Christmas Eve!'' Maka exclaimed as her arms around me tighten. I caressed her hair as I rocked her in my arms.

''You will be with me on Christmas Maka… We could have our own little Christmas and exchange our gifts and just spend the day just the two of us…'' I said as I continued to rocker her in my arms.

She hiccupped as she sobbed, ''Yea… but I still want to spend the day with you…'' giving her head a little kiss, I caressed her hair as she continued to sob. And idea hit me as I brighten up a little.

''I can come with you to your aunt if you want,'' I asked and she stiffened in my arms, immediately shaking her head.

''You can't, my aunt hates meeting new people. She freaks if she meets anyone who she isn't related to.'' She said and my mood immediately dropped. I was just as against the idea of Maka leaving that Maka was. The past months we have spent together we had really grown close. Sure, we have had our ups and downs but we were with each other at the end. I'm madly in love with her and I don't want to be ever separated from her. I just hope she share the same feelings for me. Sure, I know she loves me and it seems like she shares the same love for me as I do for her.

''Okay… then I will drop you off and pick you up.'' Maka smiled a little as she caressed my chest with her finger which sends shivers down my spine.

Suddenly the front door opened and Blair walked inside almost naked as always. She was in really short leather shorts with a leather bra and a small leather jacket with her usual witch hat.

''Oh, Maka and Soul, I was just wondering where you run off to since you both left in such a hurry this morning.'' Blair smiled as she approached the couch with a white plastic bag in her hands.

''Yea sorry about that, it was mission business,'' I said as I still continued to caress Maka's hair.

Blair giggled a little as she looked between Maka and I. She had literally attacked us both when she found of we were dating. She had been really happy and she had completely stopped shoving her boobs in my face which was relieve since my head didn't get damage by Maka's famous Maka-Chops.

''Oh by the way, I have a little present for you two,'' Blair almost sang happily as she handed me the white plastic bag and I accepted it. ''Make sure to use it,'' Blair winked as she exited the apartment again. It was starting to get late and it was probably time for Blair to go to her job at Chupa3Cabras.

''What is it?'' Maka asked curiously as she wiped the white strips underneath her eyes away.

''I don't know, let's check it out,'' I said as my hand snaked inside of the bag and I found a flat package and I pulled it out from the bag. Our breaths got caught in our throat as we looked at the package of condoms in my hand. We stayed silent as we watched the package in my hand. It was just typical for Blair to give us that kind of presents, who knows. Maybe next time she will give us a pair of fuzzy handcuffs.

''I should have known Blair would give us something like this…'' I whispered as I threw the package of condoms on the coffee table.

''Yea… it is Blair after all…'' Maka said back as she continued to stare at the package. ''At least we will be protected when we do it.''

The air got stuck in my throat. There wasn't anything more I would have liked than to have sex with Maka. I love her and I would never use her for a simple act of sex as her father does to all the female population in Death City. She is something special and a person very precious to me. Thinking about having Maka underneath me as I lay naked on top of her got me excited, it would have been a lie if I had said if I had never thought of having sex with her or even masturbated with Maka at my mind.

As I was caught in my thoughts of having sex with my emerald meister, Maka planted soft kisses up my neck as she then started to kiss me. I eagerly returned the kiss and my mind got clouded. Was she allowing me to do it with her? Was she ready to do it with me now? Blair wasn't home and she wouldn't return until early at the morning so we would have plenty of time.

Slowly, I laid her down on the couch as I climbed on top of her as I planted passionate kisses on her mouth. My hands wandered her body and this felt so real. We were really moving to go all the way and just the thought of that made me deepened the kiss as I caressed Maka's hips.

Maka gasped as she pulled away from the kiss, closing her eyes as she clasped her hands together. ''I'm sorry Soul… but I think I'm not ready to go all the way… not yet.'' She whispered and I was happy she had the courage to tell me that but I felt disappointed not to be that close to her as I want to be.

Suddenly she kissed me quickly and passionately as she caressed my neck, ''I'm sorry… but I want you to know I want this too… but I'm just not ready.'' I kissed her quickly back as I sat up.

''Don't worry, I don't want to force myself on you and I want you to be ready when we finally do it.'' I smiled a little and Maka returned my smile. I wanted us both to be ready to lose our virginity and I knew I was more than ready to lose mine but I will just have to wait a little before Maka is ready too. Sex had never been a top priority in my life. Before Maka transferred to Shibusen, I was too busy with training and going on mission so I never had a real date or even kissed anyone. It wasn't cool but I had other priorities and I'm happy I waited; now I could be with my love Maka Albarn.

I looked out of the window and slowly saw white snowflakes dancing down from the sky, ''look,'' I said as I pointed toward the window. Maka gasped as she looked at the falling snow.

''It is so beautiful…'' She said as her eyes were wide.

I wrapped my arms around Maka as she changed her position so she had her back against my chest and my legs at either side of her. ''It is, it only snows around Christmas. I guess it is a little early this year.'' It didn't snow often in Death City since the city was surrounded with a desert, but it snowed around Christmas and I don't really know how it even can be possible. We were in a desert and it shouldn't be possible to have snow fall here at all. It was now a week until it would be Christmas Eve and I would have some serious Christmas shopping to do. After all, I have to find an amazing gift for Maka, something that she will cherish for the rest of her life.

We continued to stare out at the falling snow until it got bedtime. We both cuddled up in my bed and fell asleep in each other's embrace.

Later that night, snow had managed to cover the ground as the two hooded figures once again met in the alley.

''Report,'' Noah said stiffly as the other feminine figure looked down at her shoes.

''I'm sorry, but I failed. The Death Scythe and the other weapon and meisters got in my way… I didn't reach the vault to grab the book…'' She said in an apologizing matter.

Noah's eyes widen as he grabbed the woman's neck and slammed her against the wall, ''What?! I saw how you ran toward me that day in the park!'' Noah roared at the woman and she flinched.

''I'm sorry, I won't let you down. I will get it.'' He snorted as he let her neck go and she immediately forced deep breaths down into her lungs.

''I will give you a month. Your mother isn't pleased with all your delays. This was an easy task for you, you should have managed to get your hands on that book months ago.'' He glared at the woman.

''I'm sorry… it was harder than I thought it would be. Lord Death with his meisters and weapons are always in the way.'' She said and quickly, Noah crashed his lips on the woman's, kissing her harsh.

''I forgive you, but your mother won't be as pleased. I will cover up for you but you better have that book by the end of the month.'' Noah said as he kissed her again and they exchanged 'I love yous' as they then separated in the night.
