Author Notes:
It has been a while! On a whim, I have returned to fanfiction and figured I should really finish this fic! I have had the final chapter for a while so I have just got to get there. Expect a flurry of activity from me over the next few weeks! Also, hi to everyone on the Hey Arnold: Save the Jungle Movie facebook group! Keep up the good fight!
This chapter is based on prompt #20 - feel.
What is this feeling?
Arnold x Helga
(300 words)
Arnold stood, his hand tingling with sensation, realising that he'd been holding Helga's hand. His cheeks flushed involuntarily as he stared her frowning face.
Why did he do that? Why do something so personal when making their escape? Surely now it would just fuel the boarder's misinterpretation? He must have now annoyed Helga and blown his chance to talk to her?
But really, he had no plan in the first place. He was winging this whole thing.
It was as though by acknowledging that meeting at the top of the FTi Building, he had unleashed something that he was not sure how to handle. Perhaps he should have just ignored his curiosity and never wondered what Helga was writing in her pink notebook? Just follow her act.
What was this feeling he had? This heart pounding, hand-tingling feeling?
The frown on Helga's face mixed with confusion. She looked conflicted almost. She glanced at her hand then up at Arnold, with widened eyes. Then, realising he was looking at her, her frown reappeared.
"I- I'm sorry, Helga!" Arnold stuttered, "I shouldn't have grabbed you so suddenly." He looked at her apologetically. "I was just so annoyed at the boarders, you know?"
He hoped she would understand. There was no ulterior motive for holding her hand. None at all.
"Yeah… well…" She mumbled, flexing her hand again, "Just don't touch me without permission, okay?"
"Okay!" He smiled, relieved to have avoided suspicion.
"So… did you have a plan when you dragged me up the stairs, or can I go now?" Helga asked, matter-of-factly, folding her arms.
Arnold grinned, sheepishly.
"Not really." He admitted. "I just wanted to get away."
"Okay. Well, I'd better split then." Helga said, turning to leave.
"Wait!"
