Chapter 25
Ares is the first one to arrive to Rain's body with an unmanageable speed and haste. His golden eyes look at the body for a second before he bends his head down and uses his muzzle to gentle nudge her with a pitiful moan.
"Come on, wake up. You can't be dead." The Tiger whispers in a thick voice. He doesn't want to believe that his best friend is now dead. He didn't even get to tell her what he wanted to tell her. When the Wolf doesn't bounce up from his touch he buries his face into her jet black fur with a heavy sob. Ares can't lose her, not after all they've been through.
"Ares, come here." Fiyero's gentle voice cuts through his grief. The young Tiger lifts his head up to see his adoptive father right by his side with his own tears running down his face. Ares quickly pounces on him with his front legs wrapping tightly around his body. The Winkie prince holds him very tightly with a loud sniffle.
"I got you, Ares." Fiyero whispers as he rubs the orange and black fur. The young Tiger cries even harder with his face now buried in the blonde's chest. Fiyero puts his head on top of his to try and comfort his adoptive son as best as he can. Elphaba slides to her knees when she gets close to her scene. Her chest is heaving while she tries to capture her breath. She swallows hard when she sees Ares sobbing heavily in Fiyero's arms. Blue eyes look at her before he shakes his head 'no' in a very somber way.
"No." The raven haired beauty whispers before she looks down at Rain's body. Her hands turn into fists as she fills up with determination. There will be no more death in this battle. She has to try and bring her back to life. It's the least she can do in all of this. Elphaba's eyes go wide when a fireball just barely passes by her face. She turns her head around to see what is going on. Her eyes widen in shock when she just sees a cloud of fire being swirled around by bolts of lightning. She gives a jump when there is a loud boom before lightening shoots out of the fire towards the sky in a diagonal way as a column of fire shoots off to the side burning everything it its wake. If the green woman isn't about to try and save Rain's life she would watch this awe inspiring magic fight. Elphaba forces herself to look away to focus on the Wolf's body. She hopes that Rain's spirit is still in there. She has to for everybody's sake especially Glinda's, who is in the battle for her life. Elphaba starts to perform CPR with a touch of magic to have it help succeed in what she is trying to do.
"Come on, Rain. It's not your time"

While Elphaba is trying to bring the Wolf back to life Oscar suddenly flies backwards out of the swirling fire with a surprised yell. He gives a painful grunt as he collides with the hard ground then he bounces about ten feet from the stages. He mans as he puts a hand to his chest where Glinda managed to hit him with a spinning stream of fire. He doesn't know how the good witch managed to catch him off guard for he thought he didn't have an open area of weakness for her to expose.
"Ah." He hisses when his fingers touch the four inch in diameter burn on his chest. He bets Glinda is rejoicing that she finally hit him. His nose already picks up the smell of burnt flesh. Oscar doesn't want to look at what his skin looks like. He will wait for that after he wins this fight. Though the Wizard will admit Glinda is more powerful now that she is filled with rage and hatred but she isn't sloppy which is what he is hoping she would be.
"Tired already, Oscar?" Glinda mocks as she parts the fire so the blonde could walk her way to him without hindrance. The corner of his lips goes up in a hidden smirk. He is actually enjoying this side of the good witch. She walks with a deadly confidence as if she knows she can end your life in a blink of an eye. Her normally crystal, blue eyes have turned into a dark, stormy, blue ones fill with an intense anger that she has been desperately trying to control all these years. It does make for an exhilarating fight. The fight to end all fights.
"Not at all." Oscar replies as he pushes off the ground before dusting himself off. He can't be caught off guard again. It could be his last. A twisted smile graces Glinda's face and it makes a chill go down his spine. It seems so out of place to see such an evil look on person of good. Truth be told he did feel a tiny bit of fear after seeing that look on her face. He actually might lose this.
"Good because we just started." She answers with her voice dropping an octave. Oscar has never heard her speak in such a way. It's a lower svelte with an underlying hint of steel. He doesn't know if the old Glinda is in there anything more. Everything has changed about her. Frankly, this is the first tie he is actually scared of her. Glinda gives a slight grunt as she jumps off the stage but doesn't stumble or lose her balance. Her dark eyes are fixated on the Wizard, like a predator eying its prey before the kill.
"Die!" The blonde shouts as a wall of fire flares up before her then it makes its way towards Oscar. He sees that Glinda has made sure there is no escape by rolling out of the way or jumping over it. He has seconds to think of a plan before he gets burned. His hands swirl before him in a circle. He doesn't need much to make his escape then attack. He feels the intense heat bearing down on him as he produces wind in the space between his hands.
"Ha!" Oscar grunts as she shoots a strong blast of air to the wall of flame. The fire parts the second his wind hits it. The Wizard has only seconds to run through the narrow escape route and he is pretty sure Glinda is waiting for him to do it. He quickly runs through the slowly closing window of escape. Oscar does make sure to have his lightening handy.
"You think I'd make it easy?" Glinda questions as she just starts to throw fireball after fireball at Oscar when he pushes past her wall of flame, which flames out the second he gets past it. The Wizard starts to dodge the oncoming fire balls with quick reflexes while he is trying to make his way towards the firing good witch.
"Of course not." He replies as he tries not to flinch when one grazes the left side of his face. He won't let it falter his movements because he is getting close. Oscar gives a smirk when he sees an opening. There is a second pause for every time she has to throw the fireball and he will exploit it. He shoots his lightening to the ground to blind her. The dirt and gravel kicks up before the good witch hitting her in the face and chest area. She exhales shakily when this happens for it gets dust in her eyes and making her not see where Oscar is at. It forces her to strop her fireball assault.
"Ack." She gasps when an iron grip goes around her neck. She winces as the Wizard digs his fingernails into her flesh. Oscar pulls her close to her body with a sneer. All she does is makes valiant attempts to stay alive but she is only avoiding her death by his hand.
"As always Glinda, you're attempts are futile. You are going to die." Oscar says as he makes his grip even tighter. The blonde holds onto his wrist with her breathing getting ragged. She gives a scream when lightening rips into her body suddenly.
"I want you to suffer some more." The Wizard whispers as he stops his assault for a couple seconds. Glinda's whole body is shaking after that attack. It drained a lot of her energy out of her body but she will not let him break her again.
"Good luck with that." She says before she spits in his face. Her body tenses up when the lightening comes into her body after that insult she just did to him. Glinda grits her teeth as the pain intensifies. She is sure her flesh is starting to burn from where his hand is on her throat. She doesn't know how long her body can continue to hold out.
"When I'm done with you I'll make sure everyone you love will die a horrible death." Oscar promises as he watches the lift slowly drain out of her eyes. This is the moment he has been waiting for years. It is oh so satisfying. When the good witch hear this the pain has dulled and her eyes sharpen. She will not let him hurt anybody else again.
"No!" she shouts as she brings up her left hand and swings it at the wrist on the hand chocking her. She drops to the ground in an instant after there is a loud snap of bones breaking in the wrist.
"Fuck!" Oscar screams in pain as he grabs hold of his now swollen and throbbing wrist. Shooting pain goes up his arm when he tries to move his wrist in anyway. He can't believe she broke any bone in him. She must have used magic to help her do the deed. While he is being distracted and whimpering about his broken wrist Glinda coughs but doesn't touch the burned area around her neck. She knows that it's very tender until she gets it healed. The good witch looks towards him with determination. She has to end it now. He is still preoccupied by what she has done to him. Glinda walks towards him with a purpose. She grabs him by the scruff of his damaged jacket. He yelps in shock at a hard tug from behind.
"It ends now." She hisses into his ear before she uses her magic to throw him back onto the stage. The Wizard bounces onto his hurting wrist while biting his bottom lip to stop himself from yelling in pain. Oscar tries to get up to make sure the blonde doesn't pin him down but he isn't fast enough when Glinda's body lands on his chest. His back hits the wooden stage with a thud. His soulful, brown eyes are staring at the fist that is surrounded by fire. He tries to push her off of him but Glinda, with the help of her magic, forces back down into submission. Glinda smirks at seeing the fear written all over his face. It's about time he realizes that this is it.
"Say goodbye, Oscar." Glinda says as she cocks her flamed hand back. One punch and it's all over.
While this is happening Rain suddenly gives a huge inhale of breath of air while Elphaba is about to finish another round of chest compression. Her front paws curl slightly as she starts to breathe on her own. Her eyes open to see Elphaba looking down at her with tears of joy running down her face. Why is Elphaba acting like she died?
"She's alive." The green woman mutters before repeating the statement louder. Black ears twitch at what it hears. Did she really die? It does feel like her fur is tingling.
"Whoa…" Rain says as she picks her head up but the world starts to spin. Maybe its best if she just lay down some more until the sick feeling goes away.
"Rain!" Ares yells joyfully as he goes by her side and starts to lick all over head in joy. He is overflowing with happiness to know that the Wolf isn't dead anymore. He doesn't know how he will ever repay Elphaba for doing this. Rain's tail swishes in content when he does it. It's very soothing after what she has just been through. The green woman looks to Fiyero, who is busy wiping away his tears, to talk to him but when she looks his shoulder to see the position Glinda is in. All the joy of Rain coming back to life is drained out of her. She forgot that her lover is in a life or death battle, which looks like the good witch is about to win and deliver the death blow. She can't let her do this. The Wizard will pay for his crimes but not with his life.
"Glinda...stop!" Elphaba yells as she clambers to her feet. She has to stop her before it's too late. This might be the point where she will lose Glinda forever.
"Don't do it. Rain is alive. Don't stoop to his level. You won now. Please don't kill him." Elphaba pleads to her wife not to kill Oscar. She isn't doing this because he is her father. She is doing it for the sake of the good witch's psyche. If Glinda delivers the death blow then it will forever change her. She won't be the same Glinda she knows and loves. Elphaba is fighting for the good that is still inside the blonde's soul, which is battling the evil the Wizard is trying to bring out.
"Do it. Kill me. It's what you want to do. Kill me and it will all end." Oscar says softly trying to get Glinda to give into her darker urges. Even if he dies Glinda will still lose. She will lose herself to the darkness in her and damage all her relationships beyond repair. He will still win in the end. The conflict is clear on Glinda's face as the good and evil keep talking her into doing what they are saying. She shakes her head while squeezing her eyes shut. She has to pick one before her head explodes with being overwhelmed by the two sides fighting for dominance. Elphaba feels helpless when she hears her wife before the fiery hand starts to go down towards the Wizard. Dread fills the raven haired beauty because she fears that she just lost Glinda forever. Elphaba hopes that the good in the blonde will win or all hope is lost for the happy ending that they are waiting for.
Rain is alive! I wasn't going to let her suffer the same fate as her father. She was the catalyst to push Glinda over the edge in the last chapter. Now Glinda has the Wizard on his back, literally, and she might kill him. You will see in if she does in the next chapter though. Which will be updated either Thursday or Friday because Thanksgiving is this week and I might not get it updated on Thursday. So will see you all in a couple of days. Until then!
