It had been a few days since the discovery of the Walkers in the old barn. Rick spent his days trying to talk Hershel into letting us take care of the Walkers but he wouldn't budge. Everyone took their turns watching over the problem, just waiting for something bad to happen. If you weren't taking a watch shift at the barn itself, then you were sitting a few yards away at camp with your stomach in knots watching just the same.

Then it happened. I was helping to hang up the laundry so I didn't know what the events were that had led up to the point but I heard the commotion before I saw anything. A few seconds later a group of people went past the camp. They were moving fast and looked mad. Not so surprisingly they were being led by Shane. I exchanged looks with the other campers before we too followed in the direction of the barn.

Shane was just breaking the lock off the door when I had arrived.

"What the fuck is going on?" I asked out loud to no one in particular.

There was no time at all for anyone to answer me. Suddenly Walkers of all shapes, sizes and decay came spilling out of the barn towards us. Then smell was horrendous. The Georgia heat had made the smell ten times worse locked up all in one place as they were. Quickly and though it pained us, we all took out our guns and did what was natural when it came to dealing with any walker, we shot them down.

It felt like we fired for ten minutes as we rid the area. The Greene family held each other and cried behind us. I felt for them. I knew that they had family in the old barn. I tried to look at the cold hard fact that at least they knew the fate of their loved ones. Some of us did not. I had no idea where my parents were, and Daryl he had no idea where Meryl went after he escaped the roof top in Atlanta. There were lots of us that didn't know the fate of someone we held dear.

Finally it was all over. A couple dozen bodies lay on the ground before us. My ears rang from all the shots that had been fired in such a small area.

Many of us stood motionless and quiet for moments after. We had never had to take out Walkers in front of their loved ones. I had no idea what to say to any of them. So I didn't. I went with the crew that was taking care of the bodies. We buried those that the Greene's were grieving over, the rest we burned. This took most of the day and we all stayed quiet during the task. We didn't quite know what to say to each other, and we were all mad at Shane for doing what he did.

He didn't have the right to force any of us to do what we did, especially without warning. When the day was over and the mess had been cleaned we all resorted to the cleaning of ourselves. We had a makeshift outside shower set up just to the south of camp. The water came from the hose and it wasn't warm, but I would've taken a bath in ice rather than stay covered in blood and bits of dead body a second longer.

When it was my turn Daryl came with me. We were still both pretty quiet. I could tell he was still upset over the day's events. We quickly helped each other remove the evidence of the day. We got dressed and made our way back to our tent.

"You ok?" Daryl asked me when we lay down.

I nodded. " Yeah I just feel bad for everyone and I'm really mad at Shane for acting on his impulses without discussing it with everyone else first."

Daryl nodded as he folded his arms around me. "I'm pretty sure yer not alone in that."

"I know."

Daryl kissed my head. "I love you."

I smiled softly. "I love you too. I wouldn't know what to do without you."

Daryl squeezed me tight. "I feel the same way."

We lay there in silence for a bit before I spoke again.

"Do you think Hershel will make us leave?"

Daryl sighed. "I don't know Anna. He is pretty pissed. "

"I don't blame him." I told him honestly.

"Me either." Daryl answered. "If it was you or Meryl in there and that happened, I have no idea what I would do."

"We will find him somewhere you know." I chuckled softly. "He will just appear out of nowhere like nothing happened."

Daryl laughed. "I have no doubt that yer right."

The last thing I felt was a kiss on my hair before I drifted away into a deep and dreamless sleep.

When I woke up the next morning Daryl wasn't by my side. No surprise there. I felt kind of lazy being the last to wake up every day. I quickly got dressed in a pair of black shorts and white tank top. I brushed out my long hair and made my way up to the camp area where I could smell breakfast being cooked.

"Good morning." Carol smiled at me as I approached her and Sophia.

"Good morning." I smiled back as I accepted the plate she handed me.

I sat down in a chair next to them. I looked around and quickly observed that not one of our guys were in sight.

"Where are all the guys?" I questioned as I took a bite of scrambled eggs. With all the chickens on the farm, eggs were pretty much an every morning dish.

Lori was the one to answer me.

"Shane left in a huff, nobody knows where. Dale is on the other side of the RV. Glenn is trying to make up with Maggie, and the others are trying to talk Hershel into not kicking us off the farm."

I nodded. I noticed I didn't see Andrea anywhere either. I was pretty sure that wherever Shane was she was right with him.

Lori got up and made her way up to the house. She spent more time up there than any of the rest of us. I didn't really know why, I didn't really care too much either. I noticed she seemed to be preoccupied with something lately. I didn't know what it was, but it kept her pretty quiet.

After eating I made my way over to a tree and took a seat. The shade felt good and the breeze danced across my bare arms. It would start to get cooler out now, I usually didn't mind when it got cold out, but we were also not living in tents out in the elements either.

I thought about my family, friends, and classmates. I was sure that the odds were good that someone I knew in my previous life had survived this mess. I hoped they did anyway. I wish phones still worked. I had my cell phone with me and often plugged it in to the cigarette lighter in the car to look at pictures. Life had been so carefree before the Walkers, nothing much mattered except school and hanging out. Now all that mattered was getting from one day to the next. I was so thankful that I had Daryl and the rest of the group, well most of the rest of the group I laughed to myself. There were a few people I wouldn't mind never having to have met in my life.

"Got room for one more?" Jimmy asked sitting down next to me.

"Uh, sure." I smiled at him. Jimmy and I hadn't talked much since my arrival on the farm, but from the times I had talked to him he seemed like a nice guy.

"So where is it you come from?" he asked.

"Atlanta." I answered looking out across the fields.

"Wow." He exclaimed. "I've never got to go to Atlanta. My parents…" He paused for a moment before continuing. "My parents weren't much for the city."

I laughed. "Not everyone enjoys city life. Hell I didn't enjoy everything about it."

Jimmy laughed. "I would've liked to have gone someday."

"Maybe someday when this is all over with, you will." I assured him with a smile.

Jimmy smiled back at me. "You don't really seem like a city girl most of the time though."

"What do you know about city girls if you've never been there?" I asked a little defensively.

"We have had some move into the area and go to school here over the years." He informed me. "Rich stuck up snobby bitches."

I laughed. I had known many of those kinds of girls in my life. I thankfully was not one of them.

"Believe it or not," I said. "Not all city girls are the same. I have known the kind you've met. I never liked them either, and vice versa."

Jimmy laughed. "I wouldn't think so."

It was my turn to laugh. "My parents, especially my dad thought me how to survive outside of the city. He was born and raised in the middle of nowhere in the mountains, so he learned well. I can survive outdoors, hunt for myself, protect myself and keep my distance from people."

"Those are attractive qualities in a girl." Jimmy informed me.

I smiled and blushed slightly. It was sweet of Jimmy to compliment me, it was nice to hear. Most of my group still saw me as a kid who couldn't take care of myself.

"So how did you come to be with your group?"

I laughed and told him the embarrassing tale of how Daryl had found me in the middle of nowhere almost getting my ass kicked.

Jimmy laughed. "You're funny, I like you."

I smiled. Jimmy was easy to talk to. He kind of reminded me of my cousin who I missed dearly.

"Thanks Jimmy. You're pretty easy to talk to, it's nice."

Apparently that was some sort of queue to Jimmy that he should kiss me.

I didn't even see it coming, it happened so fast. One second I was smiling, the next Jimmy planted his lips right on mine. I was so shocked for a moment I couldn't move. I pulled away quickly, but not quickly enough.

As I pulled away from Jimmy I looked over his shoulder only to see Daryl looking at us from about ten yards away with fire in his eyes.

I gasped and shoved at Jimmy. I took off in Daryl's direction only to have him turn from me and start walking in the other direction.
