Scarlett's POV…
With his black framed glasses on, the Doctor looked at this holographic map that Cobb had taken us to.
"This doesn't even look like a map." Ginny muttered from beside me, causing me to glance at her. However, I said nothing, even though I definitely agree with her. It truly didn't, but that's what Cobb said it was.
"Does this show the entire city, including the Hath zones?" The Doctor questioned Cobb, not looking away from the map.
"Yes. Why?"
"Well it'll help us find Martha."
Cline rolled his eyes. "We have more important things to do," he said. "The Progenation Machines are powered down for the night shift, but as soon as they're active, we could breed a whole platoon from you three."
"I'm not having sons and daughters by some great big flippin' machine!" Donna exclaimed. Then she glanced at Ginny. "Sorry, no offence but you're not…well I mean you're not real."
Ginny didn't get mad like I thought she would, but instead, she stated calmly, "Just because I came out of the machine doesn't make me less real than you, Aunt Donna, or Mum, or even Dad. And…" She drawled out. "Besides that, I have a body, I have a mind of my own, I have independent thought, how does that make me not real? What makes you better than me?"
Donna didn't say anything, seemingly lost for words, which didn't happen often.
There was something I noticed in Ginny's speech. Not that she was being disrespectful of Donna, which I wanted to scold her for but I held my tongue, but that she said, out of the machine, not from.
This girl was confusing the hell out of me.
Cobb looked over at Ginny, impressed. "Well said, soldier. We need more like you if ever we're to find the Source."
This caught the Doctor's attention. "Ooh, the Source, what's that then?" he asked. The way he said source made me hold back a laugh. "I like a Source, what it is?"
"The Breath of Life."
"And that would be…?"
"In the beginning the great one breathed life into the life into the universe…and then she looked at what she had done, and she sighed." Cline said.
"Mm…very poetic…" Ginny commented.
"Right, so it's a creation myth."
"It's not a myth." Cobb told the Doctor seriously. "It's real. That sigh. From the beginning of time it was caught and kept as the Source. It was lost when the war started. But it's here, somewhere. Whoever holds the Source controls the destiny of the planet."
The Doctor looked to be half-listening as he stared at the map with narrow eyes and his eyes were glittering with curiously. Then he suddenly exclaimed, making everyone, but me, Donna, and Ginny jump, "Ah! I thought so!"
"What is it?" I asked him, wondering what his sudden exclamation was for.
He responded as he brought out the sonic screwdriver, "There's a suppressed layer of information in this map, if I can just…" He soniced the map and more tunnels appeared on it.
"Wow!" Ginny said with a grin, leaning forward excitedly.
A small smile actually appeared on the Doctor's face for the first time since meeting Ginny at her excitement. But it disappeared before she could see it.
"What is it, what's it mean?" Donna questioned.
"See?" The Doctor said in awe as he pointed at the tunnels. "A whole complex, hidden from sight."
"That must be the lost temple." Cobb marveled and we turned our attention to him. "The source will be inside. You've shown us the way! And look, we're closer than the Hath! It's our!" You could practically see the greed in his eyes. He turned to Clive. "Tell them to prepare to move out. We'll progenate new soldiers on the morning shift, then we march! Once we reach the Temple, peace will be restored at long last!" He turned around and marched forward with Cline right behind him, but we quickly followed them.
"Um, call me old-unfashioned, but if you really wanted peace couldn't you just stop fighting?"
Cobb stopped and turned back around. "Only when we have the source. It'll give us the power to erase every stinking Hath from the face of this planet!"
I gaped at him. "What? You can't do that!"
"Hang on, hang on, a second ago it was peace in our time and now you're talking about genocide?!" the Doctor shouted in disbelief.
"For us, that means the same thing."
"Then you need to get a better dictionary!" The Doctor growled angrily, glaring at Cobb. "When you do, look up genocide, and you'll see a little picture of me there and the caption will read, 'over my dead body!'"
"And you're the one who showed us the path to victory," Cobb stated calmly. "But you can consider the irony of from your prison cell. Cline, at arms!"
Immediately, Cline clicked his gun on and pointed it at us. Our arms flew up in the air as we backed away.
"Oi, oi, oi! All right! Cool the beans Rambo!" Donna exclaimed, and normally I would have laughed at that, but now wasn't the time.
"Take them," Cobb ordered Cline. "I won't have them spreading treason." Then he looked at the Doctor and said in a warning tone, "And if you try anything, Doctor, I'll see that your woman dies first." He nodded towards me.
"No, we're, we're not a couple," The Doctor said quickly.
Ginny mumbled something but I didn't hear her as I tried to ignore the hurt I felt at the Doctor's words. I quickly pretended to be offended like I was the last time someone called me, the Doctor's woman.
"Ew, I'm not his woman!" I made a disgusted face.
"Come on. This way." Cline went to lead us to our jail cell, still pointing the gun at us but stopped at the sound of the Doctor's voice.
"I'm going to stop you, Cobb, you need you know that," he promised, sounding so serious that it was kind of scary.
Cobb scoffed. "I have an army and the breath of god on my side, Doctor, what'll you have?"
"This." The Doctor pointed to his head.
But the General didn't look worried like he should have been because the Doctor would stop him. Cobb looked at Cline again. "Lock them up, and guard them."
"What about the new solider?" Cline asked, nodding towards Ginny, who took a step forward, which looked hesitant from where I was looking as she glanced at the Doctor before she took that step.
Cobb shoved her away, into the Doctor's arms. When that happened, I felt protectiveness creep up on me and burst quickly. I growled at Cobb and Donna had to hold me back from punching the bastard in the face.
"Don't touch her!" I growled again. But he ignored me and my eyes darkened. I opened my mouth to tell at him. I was cut off though by Ginny grabbing a tight hold of me. Oddly enough, I relaxed and held onto her just tightly.
"Can't trust her." Cobb told Cline. "She's from pacifist stock. Take them all!"
'Well, I guess it could be worse.' I thought as we entered our cell and the door was closed and locked to keep us from getting out. Then I looked around at the dirty cell and made a face. 'Nevermind…it already is worse.'
"More numbers." Donna commented, noticing the numbers on the wall. "They're gotta mean something."
"Makes as much sense as the breath of life story." The Doctor said as he went to sit on the bench that was there.
"You mean, that's not true?" Ginny asked, crossing her arms.
"No, it's a myth. Isn't it, Doctor?" Donna sat down next to the Doctor and though there was another spot for someone to sit at, I stayed standing next to Ginny. The last thing I wanted was to get my outfit dirty.
"Yes, but there could still be something real in that temple, something that's become a myth." The Doctor answered, leaning back against the wall. "A piece of technology, a weapon."
"Or it could not be," I pointed out. "It could be something else."
"Yeah, but if it is a weapon, we've just given directions to Captain Nutjob?" Donna said.
The Doctor ignored her as he responded to Donna, "Oh, yes."
"Not good, is it?"
"I think that goes without saying, sis." I told her.
"That's why we need to get out of here." The Doctor said seriously as he leaned forward, hands on his knees. "Find Martha and stop Cobb from slaughtering the Hath." He found Ginny staring at him with amusement in her eyes, "What, what are you, what are you…what are you staring at?"
She shook her head, still looking amused. "Nothing, it's just…I mean…you keep insisting you're not a soldier. But look at you!" She gestured to him, almost tossing her hands up in the air. "Drawing up strategies like a proper general."
"No, no, I'm trying to stop the fighting."
"But isn't that what soldiers do too?" Ginny said, giving him a look. "Try to stop the fighting?"
"Well. I suppose. But that's…that's…technically…" He tried to protest but then gave up on it. "I haven't got time for this! Donna, give me your phone! Time for an upgrade!"
Donna handed him her phone and he stood up, using the sonic on it.
"And now you're using the sonic screwdriver as a weapon!" Ginny exclaimed, laughing as he put the phone to his ear. "I'm gonna learn so much from you, even though I already have, but still! You are such a soldier! And you always told me that you didn't approve of my fighting, but now I understand why. Because you spent all your time fighting, and you didn't want me to do the same thing!"
The Doctor froze and he slowly turned towards her. His brown eyes darkened considerably.
"How do you know that?" he demanded.
Ginny stared at him for a few minutes, then gave him a small grin, putting her index finger close to her lips. "Spoilers."
Before he could say anything, he stopped, hearing something over to phone. He grinned, his eyes not dark anymore.
"Martha! You're alive!" He was silent for a moment, then said, "I'm with Donna and Scarlett, we're fine, what about you?"
I nudged him hard in the side, getting his attention. "And Ginny, she's fine too!" I gave him a look.
"Yes all right…" he muttered to me before speaking to Martha, louder, "And, and, Ginny…that's the woman from the machine, the soldier, mine and Scarlett's daughter, except she isn't, she's…"
I felt a flash of annoyance go through me. It was annoying the way he was treating Ginny.
There was something about her that was different…she wasn't like all the other soldiers who came from that machine.
But I didn't know what made her different.
"Anyway! Where are you?" The Doctor asked Martha. Then he looked guilty, "Ohhh…that was me. If both armies are heading that way, there's going to be a bloodbath." He shook his head at whatever Martha said. "Just stay where you are, if you're safe there then don't move, d'you hear?" The connection must have broken because the Doctor groaned.
Then suddenly, we heard the cries and chanting coming from the soldiers and General Cobb.
"They're getting ready to move out," The Doctor said. "We have to get pass that guard."
At this, Ginny grinned. "I can take care of that one." She pushed up her breasts and she walked forward, but the Doctor stopped her.
"No, no, no, no. You're not going anywhere."
Her grin fell. "What?"
"You belong here." He told her coldly. "With them."
Ginny's eyes flashed with hurt but she shook it off, glaring at him. "No, I don't. I belong with you and Mum."
Somehow, this was the last straw for the Doctor. "Scarlett isn't your mother, and I'm not your father!" he yelled. "You are not our daughter!"
Ginny's glare turned even deeper. Then she stepped closer to him and began searching his pockets, startling the Doctor.
"What…what are you doing?" he stuttered.
She didn't respond as she pulled a stethoscope out of his pocket and held it out for him, but he stared at it blankly. She rolled her eyes, shoving the stethoscope in his hands.
"Listen." Ginny said simply.
He stared at her for a moment and now it was his turn to roll his eyes. He put the stethoscope on, bringing it to her chest. He brought it to one side and the other. His eyes snapped to hers. In response, she gave him a simple smile before leaning in and whispering something in his ear. I didn't hear it, nor did Donna, but whatever it was, it caused the Doctor to look at Ginny as she pulled back with wide eyes.
"Now, can I go with you?" she asked softly.
He barely nodded and she smiled again as she headed towards cell door to talk to Cline.
Donna and I instantly went up to him. "What just happened?"
"She has two hearts…" he whispered. My eyes widened.
"Does that mean she's a…" Donna gave a shake of her head. "What do you call a female Time Lord?"
"A Time Lady…" The Doctor said in another a whisper.
"Wow…but what did she whisper to you?" I questioned.
He instantly became guarded. "Nothing important…" he answered quickly. "Let's make sure Gin doesn't get hurt." He actually sounded protective this time as he headed in the direction that Ginny went.
Donna and I glanced at each other worriedly before we followed the Doctor. But I was still wondering what exactly Ginny whispered in his ear…
